Do I need to play the other Killzones....

...to enjoy KZ:SF?

This generation I skipped the PS3, but I'll be getting a PS4. Is it worth the hassle of borrowing a PS3 and playing 2 & 3 for the sake of the story?

I don't think you have to worry. It takes place years later and has different main characters. It'll probably reference the other games but in a way that doesn't require full knowledge of the story.

No you don't. If you asked if you should play killzone 2 before 3 than I would say yes. In your situation it wont make a difference.

You might be better off having not played the first 3. While the gameplay and graphics were technical marvels when they launched it was the story/characters that came up short. The series was wrought with immature dialogue, cliche' WW2 troupes and absolutely detestable companions(see Rico). Hopefully this new angle on the franchise will offer up a tighter, more personal narrative without the embarrassing attempts at war machismo.

the comment about infamous second son is completely incorrect. i guarantee that game will have a strong connection to the first two in the series. hell, there is even going to be DLC that links what happens between infamous 2 and second son....

@Geminon: DLC that not everyone will get. Truth is, we don't know how much the previous games will be portrayed in the new ones as we have yet to play them.

the fact that they are doing DLC to link the two games is proof enough that they will be connected....

If you're concerned then just read up on the stories online. They're not the kind of story you really need to play thru to appreciate although the gameplay is fun so, if you want a fun, if repetetive, shooter you should give them a shot.

I would definitely pass on Killzone HD if I were you... it's terrible by modern standards even with the shiny coat of HD paint. However, 2 and 3 are great games that you should definitely check out sometime just because they are fun and will get you pumped. You could just do like one of the poster's already said and just have a little Youtube catch-up session, though.

Agreed. I'm a huge inFamous fan, and you CANNOT play Second Son without having played the other games. The first 2 games had one of the greatest stories ever, and you will have no appreciation for how epic Second Son is without having experienced inFamous 1 & 2.

For Shadow Fall, you just need to read up on the series. You don't necessarily need to play the first two games in order to understand them. It would be helpful, but not necessary.
