the next generation of consoles come out? I know we have years left in this generation's life cycle, but what happens when the successor to the PS3 comes out? Are you going to get it on launch day and just switch over or are you going to wait for a year or two and still game on your PS3 until then?

As for me, if the PS4 ever comes out I'll be waiting a year or two before even buying one. I think the price is going to be ridiculously high. :/

Probably not. I'll probably switch back over to PC until the PS4's price drops. That's what I did when PS3 came out.

depends on the price and game library of the ps4. if its not crazy high and when it has some games that i really want then id switch over. but the days of buying the latest system just to have it or because its hyped up are far behind me ;). if i have the cash id say 6 months to a year would be a good estamite of when i would most likely buy a ps4 or what ever the next system that looks the most promising is. unless like i say it is at a good price and lounchs with a very strong game line up then i might buy it right away. eather way if there are great games comeing out for it regularly then i would have no need to play my older system.

Probably won't get one straight away due to price. But hopefully Sony will have learned a ting or two from their financial woes with the PS3 this gen and find some way to keep the quality up whilst reducing cost.

There wouldn't be much point unless it didn't have BC. The PSN/Trophies will most like carry over so there would be little reason to keep playing it.

No I'll wait until a find a good deal with a bundle of games like I got with my PS3 in 2008. It also depends on what games the console will have on offer during the launch.

It depends on the price. If it's reasonable I might get one right away. If it's ridiculously high, I'll wait. In any event I'm sure I'll end up playing my PS3 well into the PS4 era because there are a whole lot of games I need to catch up on.

Maybe only Gt5, I'll upgrade my pc by then so will game on that till prices come down, and maybe buy the new Nintendo machine if it catches up on tech (which I doubt). I only bought the ps3 early this year so I hope the next one is a while away.

I suppose it depends if theres a good launch lineup of games and the price is decent. I'm not sure if the $600 price tag will be worth it next time unless the games are absolutely amazing. Launch titles usually aren't though. It would be nice to have BC so I could play PS3 games, but we all know where Sony stands with BC now.

I will be gaming on my PS3 till 2016 or until no more games com out for it. ( http://www.businessweek.com/globalbiz/content/dec2006/gb20061228_090512.htm) Developers left too fast. Some of them have even said so ...if I can find the link... I do not think that they will do the same thing again when Next gen comes around.

They only way more people will switch is if... Next gen is far better and not just with better graphics. And the Price is low enough like 299.99 at launch. I can not see those two things happening any time before 2015.

I probably will. It depends on how the PS4 pans out and if it has a better launch than the PS3. It would be nearly impossible not to.

I bought a PS3 instead of a 360 because i didn't want to worry about the RROD problem, only to find out that the PS3 is just as faulty than the 360 when my 60GB YLOD on my 1 month ago. So I won't be buying anymore console and stick to PC from now on.

I don't think we will see a new PS system for awhile or any other for that matter. I think the price point of both HD consoles turned people off. The prices that they are at now are the launch prices of their previous systems. Games are being made for it all the way up to 2012. I am pretty sure that Mass Effect will complete it's trilogy on this generation's systems. the 2nd one just came out this year, so that means that the third won't come out until 2012 or maybe early 2013.

Games like Agent, the Agency, Last Guardian Uncharted 3, and so forth.

Sony is now coming out with the move, it would dumb to come out with that and then come out with PS4 a year later. Same with the other companies

Sony still has the name Starhawk trademarked, and I am sure incognito is working on another PS3 game.

Usually new technology is shown off a year and half before the system comes out.

People knew about PS2 in 1999 and PS3 in 2005.

Wii was called revolution back in 2005.

There have not been any games showing next generation technology.

It would dumb to come out with big games in a year that a new console launches.

The gamecube had nothing out for it in fall of 2006. Other than Final Fantasy 12 what hit games for PS2 did sony have in the fall of 06?

Usually when a new system is going to come out soon, the big titles tend to slow down a bit for the current console. That doesn't seem to be happening.

Sony has way too many games in development for PS3 to even think about promoting PS4. Same with the other systems.

I don't think the jump from PS3 to PS4 is going to be as big from PS1 to PS2 or from PS2 to PS3. What else could they possibly do?

Now that there is technology to receive patches/updates/DLC and whatever else, we don't need new systems as often or even full blown sequels for that mater. There are less games being made now, then in previous generations. Companies still go on about how expensive this generation is.

PS4 is not needed right away. I like getting at least one system early in it's lifecycle so I can still game when the older systems die out. I think I will wait a couple years before even thinking about getting a next gen or by then current gen system. I don't have as much time to play anymore.

Developers need to focus more on being creative with their games than making using new hardware. Genres need to be balanced out. We have way more shooters than anything else. There are not enough platformers or RPG's We need more new IP fighting games, then the same 5 mainstays over and over.

There has been a rise of classic gaming this generation. Earthworm jim, the Genesis collection, Gunstar Heroes, and a lot of other old games have been coming out on current gen hardware. Even some of the newer games are going back to the old ways. Scott Pilgrim, Sonic 4, Mega Man 9 and 10, 3D Dot game Heroes, New Mario Bros, Mario Galaxy 2, Demon's souls, Arc Rise Fantasia, the new mortal kombat, the new contra, Punch Out, Castlevania order of ecclesia. Many people cry out for old school turn based RPG's. From what I have read, a lot of people don't want or are ready for new systems.

In short, yes I will still play PS3 when PS4 comes out because I won't have PS4 right away if ever. I don't see it in the near future. I would say 2013 may be the earliest we will see it

PS3 still have more to it Im going to wait till we reach the top of what PS3 can do before I even think about next gen. Sure Sony will improve all that it has now; 3D, Move, head tracking.BUT they will have more tools, and a better game engines before PS4 launches as it takes a few years for good games to come out, and like with PS3 the chips cost a lot to make when you lead with new chips.

yeah I am pretty sure I will wait 2-3 years after launch myself, more then likely will probably wait till mid cycle. What ever PS4 or anyone else makes can't be that drastic of a leap.

I'll wait a couple years for the price to drop and the product to be tweaked to satisfactory condition before I drop money on it.

I didn't think the 600EUR was that high when it was released, i remember the PS1 being more expensive if you consider the year and same goes for the PS2. All and all they are pretty much the same price when they came out if you take the market in consideration. If anything i would wait to make sure i would get a more solid model, i bought the PS1 in 1998 with the dual shock already in it and it still works to this day, its ridiculous my PS2 bought on release day its been broken for years and same goes with the PS3(euro release) i've fixed my yellow light 4 times already, seems like every week i have to open the thing and fix it, not really happy when i paid 600EUR for it and Sony asks for 200EUR to fix it themselves, not fair if you ask me but there's nothing i can do but keep on fixing it myself every week.

Sony will support the PS3 with 2 High profile new IP when the PS4 comes out. 3rd party developers houses will stick with the PS3 as it will be easier to develop for.

Sony learned from the last time to make an easy to develop for Console, and will have game ready to launch so that means more time.

I do not see PS4 launching in 2012.... 2013/2014 at the earliest. Sony needs to make back the money it invested in PS3, and make an profit.

They are already in the black last time I heard. With high profile games coming on all three systems until 2012 I don't see a totally brand new system from anyone until at least 2013.

Games like L.A noir, Agent, War Devil Enigma, Quantum Theory, The Agency, Darksiders 2, Another World, White Knight Chronicles 2, another world. still have yet to be talked or about or have details for western release. With all these games still in development I don't see PS4 coming out any time soon.

It will depend on ( in no particular order ):

  • Cost of "PS4"
  • Backward Compatibility
  • Assuming the above - the ability to transfer game saves over

I will be playing my PS3 until the PS4 has been around for a year or so so they can work out all of the bugs. I never like buying a console when it first comes out.
