Yeah, I did hate that fight, but once you learn all of the fighting controls, it gets really fun.
HINT: Hold down R1 and grab Luquid, then while you're holding him, tap triangle rapidly. You'll start choking Liquid.
I played the final boss battle several times this evening and could not get past it. I really hate the third stage where Liquid grabs you. I'm sure through trial and error I'll finally pass it, but I do not find it enjoyable at all. The response time seems incredibly slow. Also you'll dodge one of Liquid's punches and do a counter and it does a stupid little cutscene where they both punch each other, even though Liquid was off balance and could have never recovered to punch you. It kind of makes me not want to even play through to the end. Overall, this game was not as fun as Dark Sector, Call of Duty 4, or Resistance.dante82
WHAT?!?!?!? Ok, obviously you'll never realize how awesome MGS4, and that boss battle in particular, really are. The game is all about storytelling, emotion, and great gameplay. How can you judge a game when you havent even completed it??
Wow, this thread fails. Your thread title is a spoiler...seriously.. you just spoiled it for a lot of people who hasnt played MGS4...Elann2008
Ok, now I'm normally all against the "spoiler in the title" horse crap that oh-so-many-people fail to consider, but this particular one should've been pretty obvious. It's liquid, snake, and it's the last MGS title with snake. Of course you're going to fight him. Everyone should've seen this fight coming:)

I know everyone has their opinion, but when he said Dark Sector ...I laughed to myself.Snake would give Hayden a smile on his throat.
I thought it was one of the best parts of the game. There's just so much nostalgia from the songs, the health bars, the throwback to fighting Liquid in MGS1. Its a story that spans the entire globe and is about some very heady mutually assured destruction conflicts. Its about how AI and electronic resources govern so much of our lives and how we allow it to do so. A story that spans personal relationships across decades.
All that, and the fight boils down to nothing more than an old grudge between two "brothers". Its just such an emotional and beautifully crafted moment. From the visual presentation, to the musical climax, to the idea of two very old, very tired men deciding their destinies based on little more than their combat experience and, most importantly, their fists.
I think its one of the best boss fights ever concieved.

This post is perfect. 10/10. Exactly what I was trying to say.

Too bad you couldn't get into it. I found it to be fun and challenging.
no i loved it he just said it was hard and i was saying i didnt think it was that hard the final boss fight was epic i mean any boss fight that has the snake eater song is epic i mean i love that song
Okay, sorry for the title if that did spoil it for anyone. I guess I just assumed that most everyone who gets it knows that will happen. I understand what everyone is saying about it being an epic showdown. As with all of MGS4 it looks fantastic. Maybe if I would have beat it early on I would have liked it better. I think I just got frustrated. But come on, do you really not think the controls suck? It feels so unresponsive at times. While the game was definitely really good overall, the gameplay isn't the best ever. You basically play this game for the storyline. And at times that gets a little cumbersome also. As for actual gameplay, I seriously did like Dark Sector better. And the gunfights in this game aren't as good as Call of Duty 4. The controls for Dark Sector and Call of Duty 4 were both better than MGS4. I think the reviews that had this game as about an 8 were dead on. Production values were extremely high, it looked incredible, but a few minor gameplay issues keep it from being a true 10/10.

Problem with that is, not many others had problems with the controls or the gameplay. For normal gameplay, it was much more improved over MGS3, had so much fun sneaking and fighting when i so chose to. Admittedly the lesser boss fights weren't as engaging as MGS, but i think that's more a testament to MGS and for the final boss, I got my arse handed to me a few times too, then I realised there was a 'guard' button, and it made all the difference in the world. I wouldn't say it got easy, but doable...and still as epic. Just be sure you actually knock him down for good, I made the mistake of thinking it was over before it actually was...and I was so pissed! But that only added to the epicness as well.
If it's too hard for you, perhaps you should try easy mode.
this post is exactly why new game franchises are cookie cutter crap. the new generation of gamers love playing the same thing over and over and over again aparrently. no room for creativity or innovation anymore. it is really sad to meOkay, sorry for the title if that did spoil it for anyone. I didn't have too much trouble with him (on easy  ) but the fight did all around suck. It just felt rather anticlimatic. I mean, yeah sure, it's liquid and it's a throw back to the days of yore (read: MGS 1) but none the less. I get all the way through the game and fight some pretty memorable bosses with their own intricacies and tactics and it all ends with a fight that consists of three buttons and throw backs to old songs? I mean seriously?! WTF was that? I want something kick a**, difficult, and intricate. And after that stupid mash the triangle button mini-game? What happened there? It's like Konami busted a** for the first portion of the game and just went "meh" when it came to finish it!elemental_dragoShould try it on BBH, I thought it was too easy on normal as well, but it was a completely different and better fight on BBH. Much harder, you really have to figure out the combat style needed for each of the three stages of the fight. It was not button-mashing at all on BBH

Ok, maybe its me, but when i was battling him, i didn't lose once. I thought it was an awesome battle even though i won in one go, it was epic and everything i could ask for. I was playing it on soild normal btw. In fact, i thought mgs4 was a bit toned done since mgs3. It would've been nice to have liquid whoop my ass once, but i guess ill just play it on big boss mode if i want that. I actually miss the difficulty of mgs3, it just made it that much more fun to play since u were forced to use more of ur senses. Don't get me wrong, i think mgs4 deserves a 10/10, but i just wish their normal difficulty could've been more like mgs3.silentkill62696Play it on BBH. It is that MSG3 difficulty and the final boss scene requires MUCH more intricacy and figuring out. MUCH more satisfying!
Okay, I just played it again and actually did beat him rather easily that time. Maybe it wasn't as bad as I initially thought. I think I was just mad cuz I got frustrated. I would gladly edit the title of my post to avoid any type of spoiler. Is there anyway to do that?
