I just updated mine. Had a bigger PC crash a few weeks ago which forced me to reinstall Windows.

@dirty_old_klunt: How is the 5800X? I think I will end up getting the 5600X for a secondary build. Got the 3900X in my primary one.

It's great. I couldn't find a 5900x in stock and I really don't need the 5950x (My son is in a queue for one). First AMD chip I've had in maybe 15 years.

Really pleased so far. Going to have to look at OC'ing it as I'm a bit outta the loop with AMD stuff, I might still grab a 5900x if I see one, I like the idea of the extra cores and from what I've seen each tier improves fps quite nicely.

@dirty_old_klunt: Good luck with overclocking. Granted I think the 5000 series has more headroom than the 3000 series. I looked into it with mine decided not to OC.

Not even worth it to OC the 3000 series lol.
I believe I got a great chip. I can easily push this to 4.7ghz but it's not even worth.

Hmm difficult. To make it cheap I could opt for the air cooler I already got. 212 something. For looks I should get a waterblock on it. However the 240 rad will already be cooling a RTX 2080. And I was planning on running the fans as low as I can to lower the noise on this build.

Perhaps I should opt for the cooler I got to begin with. See how much space I actually got and then pick another one. The case is a NXZT H210i. RTX 2080 custom loop. Got a EK DDC 3.2 pump/res combo and the EK PE 240 rad. Tubing from the GPU will most likely limit the size of the CPU cooler. Not decided on which fans that it will pack. Got tons of older Noctua fans I could put on it... Or Corsair.

The case is white and black. Could paint the shell of the rad white to match it.

Man, hard to believe my last post was 2yrs ago. Anyway, FireStrike overclocked my RTX 3070 Ti (token R9: 5900X) and here are the results: (Resolution: 1440p/165hz)

Link: FireStrike score: 32,019

(@byshop not sure if you still do these benchmarks so hey why not?)

@davillain: Updated. I don't think I've submitted a score of my own since I had dual 2080 TIs. SLI was a waste that generation since the only things it worked on were like half a dozen games (no DX12 stuff) and benchmarks. I'll fire up my system and try a couple out on the 3080TI to see how it goes but I'll keep an eye on this thread as we'll probably see more activity once the 4xxx cards drop.

@byshop: Wow, I almost outscore you in Fire Strike? Daaaamn! If I do upgrade my GPU, it's totally going to be RTX 4090 as its the best bang for the buck. Also, RTX 4000 will not have SLI as Nvidia is officially done with SLI bridges.

@davillain: I went back and re-tested after you submitted your score to see how I did. This is the only test where I'll likely score higher than my previous SLI config though. As soon as you start moving up the resolutions the GPU difference comes into play and my old config was "faster" even if it's just for the 3dmark and a handful of older games.

But yeah, our scores are pretty close but then again our systems are also pretty similar. I doubt the 5950x vs 5900x makes any difference but the GPU is a little bit faster.

SLI last gen was pointless because it didn't work with anything. Nvidia was smart to drop the option because at least from a gaming perspective there's zero support for it anymore. The only silver lining to buying dual 2080 tis previously was by the time I got rid of them video card scarcity made it so I could recoup most of my cost (I refuse to charge scalper prices but I probably could have were I so inclined).

I'll miss building crazy enthusiast systems with dual video cards and nuts cooling, but at the same time I'm not going to miss buying dual cards since the prices keep going up every generation or having to deal with the power/space/cooling requirements of such rigs.

I've finally got around and play with Port Royal which is 3DMark new addition for those with RTX GPU and wanted to test out RT and what my RTX 3070 Ti (OC) is capable of so here are the results: Port Royal score: 9,344
