System Shock 2, great blend of fps/rpg/horror/sci-fi. If you get your hands on it be sure to use the graphics mod...think it was called rebirth, I might be wrong though.
Fallout 1 has aged like crap, I tried playing it again after all these years (and after FO3) and it didn't go over so well.
I can't think of any must-owns. All genres have improved significantly, there isn't really an old game that stands out above everything available today. Other than maybe a TBS such as the great Alpha Centauri. AC is still one of the, if not the best TBS games ever.
Deus EX, easily my favorite game of all time. Followed by Fallout and Half-Life. I mean, c'mon, if you don't have those 3 titles in your PC collection how can you call yourself a PC gamer? But seriously, everyone who games should play through Deus Ex at least once.
Word, on top of exellent visuals and action Mafia tells a great story, one of the best I've experienced and the ending is truly fitting. I have to give it to the developers for having the balls to run with it.

Anyone who has even a passing interest in old-school style point and click adventure games or anyone wanting a fantastically written game should have a go with The Longest Journey. The game is simply unforgettable.

i cant beleive it hasn't been said yet, but the one game EVERYBODY should have with a pc is orange box.
 If were talking about individual titles, then wow would probalby be the best option under the impression that its only game that everybody needs to have.
Roller Coaster Tycoon 1 it can be both fun and mentally stimulating. More engaging than the Sim City franchise, and more fun than the Civilization Franchise. Second Place: Fallout 1. Play it free on Gametap, I just beat it today after playing it a few weeks for the first time in years.
