You're years too late. Star Wars Galaxies was murdered by SOE with the Combat Upgrade and New Game Enhancements. Totally destroyed any originality the game had, and now plays like a really bad WoW clone.
WOW is still the best MMO mainly because all the new MMOs that come out use the same play style. Your better off with WOW which has years worth of content then a new game that plays the same way but, has very little end game content.
aww ok i just want a good MMO, coming off of WoW, but it seems like all the new ones suck. Is STO worth trying?

I tried the beta for STO and thought it was really bad. Like usual, Cryptic released a half finished game. I've been thinking of trying out EVE. If you're looking for something sci fi it might be worth a look.

STO imo is worth trying, I love the game and am having a blast. In the end you must decide on your own. You will hear alot of mixed opinions about the game but it's an MMO and as you all know, not even wow was considered good or had a smooth launch in the beginning. If you want to be bored out of your mind try eve.
STO seems like a decent game, when Cryptic gets around to optimizing/fixing the bugs and adding in content. It just feels a bit unfinished at the moment.
Last year I decided to give SWG a try. Logged in on Kettemoor and I was the only person on the entire server. They moved me to some other server that actually had people but I quit.
Honestly if you're a somewhat die hard fan of Star Wars, SWG will sitll do fine. I mean pre CU was an awesome time, and that's a fact. Also gameplay in SWG isn't as stable and solid as WoW but it's still a great game if you're really into star wars

It was fun mainly because of bounty hunter. It was a blast. Stalk people and then shoot them in the back while they are weak. Then wait for the hate /tells lol.
Or stand toe to toe with a Jedi and pwn them in the face and they are like "but Im a Jedi!!!" I never lol'd more than in that game.

Warhammer online has an endless free trial right now, you can play the first tier for free forever. It looks like WoW when you first get on but it is totally centered around pvp. Nothing to lose trying it out.
SWG is a great game imo. I'd play it more but I won't p2p.
SWG has fun variety of classes as well as unique planets. Space battles, amazing crafting system unlike anything you have ever seen. Houses as well as space ships youcan decorate and call home. Near the end of my last month all I did was decorate my 3 story 25 room underground bunker. Make your own shops to sell your loot or crafted items.Use you survey tool to scancertain planets for the games best minerals which you can extract with a harvestor, very rewarding as it breaks the grinding and allows for some nice exploration. Music and graphics are great as well. Game is good and they do have a trial.
I haven't played in a while but my bro says some servers are still "very high" population.
Also I played SWG since launch so I understand the whole pre-cu post-cu jargin.
I'm not gonna say its worth it or not, but I will tell you what I am going to do, and that is wait until The Old Republic, The Secret World, and Torchlight.
You wont get a single useful comment here, just a bunch of ragers who probably havnt touched the game in 3-4 years, so they really dont know what the games like.
I went in, played for a few hours during two days. Definitely not worth it, crap crap crap crap crap. It's practically empty and the structure is so bad, the quests are boring, and everything just feels dead (even the NPCs). I never listen to what people tell me and usually go back and have a really good time out of nostalgia; but now it sucked even for me.
