I've seen this question tossed around quite a bit, but let's focus on it. What do you think? After you vote, please supply a few comments in your post. This can help provide additional feedback for those who are looking to purchase this game. Like myself :).

Update: Some have said this question was asked a little too early. It's been almost a month since Skyrim's release. Have your opinions changed? What do you think?

I think it might be. I've only played about 4 hours so far, nowhere near enough time to make a final call, but the level of fun I'm having right now is up there with how much fun I had with Morrowind

It's miles ahead of Morrowind.

I think Skyrim is Bethesda's first masterpiece. It may be more simplified, sure, but that's not really a bad thing - in fact, I like the streamlining of the leveling and armor. The combat feels so much more satisfying, the missions and environments have a nice variety, and the glitches have more or less been iron out of the game before release. Overall the game is near perfect, which is more than I can say for any other Bethesda game.

Too early for me to say at the moment, I've only played a couple of hours...

But it's definitely better than Oblivion. Even modded Oblivion.

Can't say as I haven't played Morrowind... but as thesaracen said... it's a masterpiece for sure. This is the most fun I've had in a game for a very long time, I think it's safe to say this is one of the greatest games I have ever played.

I don't have Skyrim yet. But I never did find the "RPG complexities" in previous ES games very interesting, useful, worthwhile, or entertaining. To me the ES games are all about exploration. Morrowind was more interesting to explore than Oblivion. I was particular glad to see that Dwemer ruins returned in Skyrim as those were the most interesting locations to explore in Morrowind.

Still to early for this poll. Morrowwind excelled after mod community jumped in. Skyrim seems better out of the box, but will only get better with mod support.

I vote yes. I think it's better than both Morrowind and Oblivion. I enjoy them all.

It's a bit too early to say, I'm only two hours into Skyrim and it's good so far. Morrowind was such a deep and rewarding game though, you really felt your character was growing and pushing deeper into the world. Great main quest as well. How Skyrim compares (graphics aside) well, time will tell.

Its good but you can tell the menus are designed for console. In Oblivion you could easily switch from bow to melee weapon in Skyrim its very badly done for that.

Oh yeah. As much as I love Morrowind, and Oblivion for that matter, Skyrim is a thousand steps above anything Bethesda has done yet. Can't wait for the Creation Kit to release so we can get more mods(eventhough I'd say there are already a pretty good number of them seeing as the game came out yesterday)

Sleepyz

The menus are very weird at times. Sometimes I feel like I have to navigate through the menu with the arrows instead of being able to click on something.

However, I am not quite sure what you mean by the bow-weapon problem. I just press 1 to equip my dagger, and 2 for my bow. o_O

My opinion might be slightly irrelevant considering I only put about 20 hours into Morrowind (biggest reason being I was a hardcore CS player around the time it was "fresh"). Thinking back though I would say it is. And to be honest, no matter how much mods there are, Morrowind really shows its age by now. What I can say though, scoring 16 hours of Skyrim gameplay so far, is that it is in a completely different league compared to Oblivion which I invested lots of time in. It improves everything but the interface and menus, which I can't be bothered to complain about because the game is so full of awesome.

Is SKYRIM better then morrowind? I'd say it's over 7000 steps better! (Too early for SKYRIM jokes?)

I just find the whole game world, creatures, politics and storyline a lot more interesting then any of bethesda's previous titles... And I know that's a bold thing to say considering I've only put 16 hours into it, but honestly, this game just oozes with interesting content.

Everyone boasted how Oblivion was vastly greater than Morrowind for the longest time. Give it time. ;) So far to me it's plainly worse than Morrowind, but I still need to spend a lot more time with Skyrim. It took me about 30 hours with Oblivion before I realized that it was really lacking.

Nope, in fact strengthened. Skyrim IMO is better than Morrowind...a clear improvement in many categories. I can't wait to see the game a year from now once serious modding kicks off.

But they're linear though.

These Beth games always seem great at the beginning. The more you play them the worse and worse they get.

I feel the same ... I know for sure that Morrowind was more fun for me than Oblivion, making Skyrim better than Oblivion ... but comparing Morrowind and Skyrim - that's a tough one to decide ... even though I'm with 60+ hours in-game :?

I have not changed my mind... Skyrim is Oblivion v2.0 Better then oblivion. Worse then Morrowind. A good try with some improvments (handcrafted > copy paste) but its like the devs cant decide if they should make a action / adventure game or a rpg.

What problem? The game's reception has been stellar. Aside from reviews and the normal accolades, when you have 54% of this forum (full of Morrowind adulation) considering Skyrim better than their previous best RPG, with only 10% actually disagreeing, I think that says mountains about the game.

Skyrim is a success for Bethseda on practically every level.

Yes thats what i meant ;)... Its trying to do both. Both are average at best due to that. There is no depth to the RPG part. And the combat / phase of the game is like 10 years old for a action game.

I should say, that's the problem for me. Obviously alot of ppl seem to love it. Take that poll at a hardcore RPG site with ppl that have alot more experence with the genre, like the codex for instance, and see what the % would be.

I wouldn't say codex has more experience then people here (been gaming 20+ years myself)...it's just a different mindset. I personally hate going to the codex forums...a VERY snooty crowd. They are entitled to their own opinions, but they do not represent a more experienced bunch...just one that has a different viewpoint which is fine. I know quite a few folks on this forum and many of them have tons of RPG experience as well.

That quote in your sig is the perfect example of the type of condecending mindset that I am talking about...
