People keep saying that digital distribution will take over before another disk format, but i doubt it. The people on this site are gamers, and will have faster internet connections. However, many people in the US are still using dial-up. There is no way people could download a game with a 56k modem. I live in oregon just outside a suburb area, and broadband was offered in our area only 6 months ago. All this talk about fiber optic that people will easily download gigs of data is a long ways off. One of the reasons why so many games are offered on cd is because believe it or not, there are a fair amount of people without dvd drives. I have friends who play games who only got a dvd drive in the past 2 years.

I think the days of download-only major titles are a long ways off. Download may be cheaper for publishers, but they want to make their product available to the biggest audience possible.

You guys need to consider the entire globe when speaking about Digital media. Not every country has ADSL or Broadband for that matter.

Publishers are still releasing games on CD, when do you think the first PC game will be released on blu-ray instead of 5 DVD's?

FlaminUmpalumpa

First off, most games only take 1 DVD, and most companies just started using DVD over CD. BTW, only two or so games actually used more than 1 DVD (two disks I think), and besides, games are stored on harddrives which makes blu-ray unneccesary.

It will happen sooner or later but presumably later. Majority of PC games still fit on one DVD.

I can't vote, because Blu-Ray already won the battle with HD-DVD and it will soon die out, and imo there will be another 4 or 5 years before Blu-Ray discs "might" be necessary. There should be a max of 4 DVD's per game, and games that are over 38 gb won't be here for a looong time (yeah I know about Age of Conan and i don't care, that one is an exception, and MMO's could have 1 tb, I don't care about them, I was talking about games in general). If a game would need over 4 dvd's then I would gladly get a Blu-Ray ROM, till then I wll laugh at them for making billion layer Blu-Ray discs that nobody will buy.

never, because they'll just use multiple DVDs until Digital distribution becomes popular enough.

I still stand by this.
