My friend was originally going to go with the new consoles but I changed his mind and he was pushing towards PC gaming anyways but can you help me choose parts that will help him upgrade is computer (hp envy h8-1414).

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c03517389#N1181

From what I can tell the cpu is fine and the memory is fine but I know the video card needs be upgraded along with the power supply if he gets a new video card. I dont know about the mother board but it will do from looking at it.

Can you help get his computer running to play nextgen games. He only has $500 to upgrade with and I know you can do alot with that but help will be appreciated.

I'd go with these:

Corsair CX 500W V2 Series Active PFC 12cm Fan///Corsair VS550

MSI Radeon R9 280X

and you should replace your HDD coz it's only SATA and it's very slow;

Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB SATA3 64Mb 7200RPM///Seagate Barracuda 1TB SATA3 64MB 7200RPM

Highly doubtful that his HDD is sata 1 since this was sold a year ago. And even going from Sata 2 to Sata 3, there won't be any differences... might as well grab a SSD instead

@HelpWithPC: dude, just get the R9 280X it's basically the same card but OC and it should cost cheaper.

if you want to go full blast with the same card and not really save more money get the toxic edition: http://www.amazon.com/Sapphire-DL-DVI-I-SL-DVI-D-PCI-Express-11221-01-40G/dp/B00FLMKR78/ref=sr_1_6?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1383726860&sr=1-6&keywords=r9+280x

if you do want to save some money then the MSI that I've offered cost 340$ and Gigabyte / Sapphire are 300$

and if it doesn't fit your case, I'd go with Sharkoon REX3, just take a measure tape and give us dimensions coz it doesn't say anything from the site.
