Ok guys so I`ve been thinking about upgrading my current i7 2600k to the 3770K Ivy Bridge. Now, I know that my I7 is overkill for most games, thing is I`m kinda of a hardware whore  I recently bought a GTX 680 and I want new generation hardware to match my new GPU, including the mobo. My current board has PCI-E 2.0, I want to upgrade to 3.0. Same goes for the USB controllers. My question is, in order to get USB 3.0 do I have to upgradeto Ivy Bridge, what benefits if any will I get by upgrading from sandy bridge to ivy ? Also is PCI-Experss 3.0 support independent from the CPU, meaning can I keep my i7 2600k and just upgrade to a PCI-E 3.0 board? Thanks guys.

Just buy this and be happy. http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-SuperSpeed-Express-PCIe/dp/B004GF1PC2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1339785132&sr=8-1&keywords=USB+3.0+PCIe You won't see any real difference with a PCI-e 3.0 lane compared to a PCI-e 2.0. PCI-e 3.0 is dependent on the CPU I believe, so you would need an Ivy Bridge CPU. Still like I said, it is worthless. Your CPU is perfectly fine. You won't see any difference with the 3770k in games either.

Adding more CPU power isn't going to do much and is poor value for money, you may as well spend the money going SLI or something.

Lol, he's at 4.5 ghz But TC upgrading to a i7 3770k will do squat and would be a pointless upgrade. Also its known that Ivy's dont overclock as well as sandy's because of the cheap heat spreader on the die.

I don't have spamy sigs on. Just a nice clean look. If he is already OC'ed then hey would be better off spending cash on SLI.

No way im going SLI. But can someone confirm if PCIE-3.0 is CPU dependent? That would suck balls.

Yes... Only Ivy supports it. My Z68 board supports 3.0... But I can't use it with my 2600k. I got the option to SLI... But If anything I'll get a dual GPU card like the GTX 690. Thought I'm gonna wait on that prob till october. When I can hear wth is going on with GK110.

It is CPU dependent but PCI-E 3.0 is pretty much irrelevant right now, and upgrading from what you have is just a big waste of money to be honest. But then again it's your money.

normally id say go for it but since the 3770k doesn't OC as good as the 2600k then there is no point in it.

Since you've already got an i7-2600k you should just stick with that. Of course, it's your money and if you've got the cash to do it then upgrade if you want.

My i7-3770k is at 4.5 and that's about the equivilant of the 2600k@4.8 so Ivy can certainly overclock.

This is another reason why I was considering the upgrade, this is a response I gave to a PM from a fellow gamespotter :) Heya Obiwan, I would sell it to you thing is that I live in Venezuela, and I can sell it here at roughly the same price of a new I7 3770K ! Yeap things are crazy here due to the fact that everything is imported and there isnt much supply or competitors on the market. The people that do sell pc hardware usually overprice the crap out everything due to inflation and a hard control of foreign currencies by the government. To give you and example, $1 = bolivares 8,9. Currently i7 2600K brand new sell here for bolivares 3,940.00 which equals to $ 442,69 USD and people do buy them! So thats why I upgrade fairly often because I can just sell my stuff here and put little or no money towards new Pc hardware (of course I buy all my stuff in the states every time I travel there)
