After a few years of planning and being a console gamer I finally decide to build my own PC with the following:

- Intel Core i9 9900K 3.6GHZ
- NVIDIA ASUS GTX 2080 SUPER
- ROGSTRIX Z390-E Motherboard
- 32GB of RAM 2666mhz DDR4
- 2tb solid state

You think its future proof? I have just played Gears 5 max out and Modern Warfare and holy s*** the 4K native and high FPS

@Pelon208: It's a beast rig, but the 32GB of ram is overkill and not being used for gaming at this point in time. 16GB is all you need right now. We will see if that changes when the next-gen consoles come out.

It is a very nice build, should be able to max games for the next couple of years...

Well considering you posted like two thousands dollars worth of parts, yeah I would sure hope so.

It will last as long as you want it too. The next gen consoles won't exactly be highend (probably on par with a lower-end 6 core desktop processor and GPU will probably be around third party 2060 level performance) so there shouldn't be any issues on your end

I'd say that's a 10/10. Wish it was mine.

It's good, but you bought a platform with no upgrade path.

Intel never has an upgrade path...

The PC will be good for some years to come. Depending on preferences parts of it can last 5 years plus.

You may be lucky for a 10900K or a new chipset will be required. 100% likely for Intels 10nm, all the way in 2021, they might of scrapped it actually.

Looks great... Only issue is the RAM at 2666MHz it will drop gaming performance by 5-15% of its true potential if you game at 1080/144Hz and even in some CPU heavy games at 1440P you could lose 2-5% performance, you should have gone with 3200MHz RAM at CL16 its the same price here in the UK as 2666MHz.

Aside from that you are in the 1% club when it comes to gaming.

I have never upgraded a CPU... As a gamer its always better to just get a better GPU or build a completely new system.

For example many AMD gamers with 1700 or 1600 would grab a 3600 or 3700 CPU but you are not going to get all the benefits of that build no GEN4 PCIe lanes and so on.

I went from:

  • AMD Athlon X2 4400+(PC died)
  • Intel Core 2 Duo e4400
  • AMD Phenom II B50 X4
  • Intel i5 2500K
  • Intel i5 4670K
  • Intel 8700K

Never did I upgrade my CPU as the price to performance by the time you needed to upgrade was not worth it. In 4-5 years when he needs a new CPU you nothing on current platforms will be as good as what will be available on newer platforms that goes for both AMD and Intel.

With modern resolutions like 1440/4K you could argue that going from a 1700 to a 3700 is probably not worth the $300 and you would better off just getting a new GPU.

Fair enough, I know I'll have to upgrade mine. Maybe not, I don't know.

@Grey_Eyed_Elf: I can change the RAM didn't knew there was higher Mhz, this is my first build since Medal Honor Allied Assault came like in 2002.

And I'm already saving for the next gen NVIDIA 3080, lets see how much it would cost

You can't be future proof - there is no such thing when it comes to PC/gaming hardware.

Best you can do is get the best parts you can with the money you have and enjoy it until it takes you to a point you no longer get the results you need. Then you start all over.
