I don't know the monitor at all, admittedly, but often when maintaining aspect ratios on lower than native resolutions, people don't notice any stretching or text issues. I am on a 22" WS monitor w/ native res of 1680x1050, but I run it at 1280x768 and every looks perfect, I don't see any problems in games (except for some reason 1280x800 stretches weird). Of course different monitors will respond and look different, but usually you can find a lower than native res that still looks perfect.

TC dont let anyone fool you into buying a high res LCD.If you want to play in crazy resolutions(which is not really worth it) go with CRT ONLY.Thinker_145

I'm starting to think you are the last CEO of a company who solely makes CRT monitors. No one wants a 100lb monitor on their desk. The 226bw series of Samsung monitors are absolutely amazing. Have you ever seen one in person? I doubt you have, or you'd reconsider your stubborn TN Panel stance. Let the CRT ship sink, it's old technology.

Old technology maybe but superior technology not in everyway but mainly in things affecting a gamer.

The TC is SOO much worried about losing performance in high resolutions.Obviously advicing him to buy a high res LCD is not a good idea.

The easiest and simplest way for TC is to buy a 19" CRT.And since he currently have a 17"CRT,he would most likely have the desk space for a 19" as well.

Ofcourse i know that.

But it depends on the situation.A CRT would serve the TC better in this case.

can't you guys just answer my q's instead of going to an lcd/crt battle :

--------------

cod 4,everythinh max at 1024x768 : 60 FPS

cod 4 everything max at 1280x1024: 50-55 FPS

Kane&Lynch at max 1024x768: 60 FPS

kane&lynch at max 1280x1024 : 60 FPS again

CMR-DiRT at everthing ultra 1024x768: 32-43 fps

CMR-DiRT at everthng ultra 1280x1024: 22-33 fps

Stranglehold-max 10x7 60 fps

stranglehold-max 12-10 60 fps again sometimes drops at 50

so seems likei won't be loosing too much if i go to an 19' lcd wide?

Yeah good point but one 8800gt and a 1680x1050 rez should be able to handle most current games minus crysis cause every rig struggles with that game.

It also depends on your definition of maxing out.Anything below a steady 40+ fps is not maxing out for me.Not that i wont play below 40fps but i wouldnt call it maxed out.

Well actually i am wrong here. The article says that the 8800GT runs gears in dx10 with no AA "very well".So surely AA wont kill it.I never myself tried gears above 12x10 so dont really know was just going by this.Cheers.

I misread, but still, don't use HardOCP when comparing video cards,THEN you'll lose all your creditibility.

I had the same monitor as kodex1717 (LG 19" Widescreen LCD Monitor L196WTQ-BF), and when playing Counter-Strike: CZ I had higher FPS on the highest resolution that I can pick and lower FPS on the lower resolution. LOL doesn't make any sense at all. Sadly I had to return the monitor and stick with my 17" Compaq 7550 CRT monitor (which I see lot's of on other peoples computers) because the LG was hurting my eyes to much :P.

Expect a good 40%-50% decrease in framerate in a lot of games. But at least they will look nicer due to the higher resolution.

I have a 8800GT and that exact sam monitor, and I get around 25-30 FPS in Crysis average. :) It's more than decent for this game. What's not decent is anything bellow 15...
