I'm a huge Indie game player/supporter and was wondering since the year is approaching it's end, what Indie title/titles would you consider the best this year? Me personally, I have just been impressed by the amount of great Indie titles this year. Top couple of choices on my list: 1. Dungeon Defenders 2. Orcs Must Die There are plenty of others I could mention, but these two have sucked the most time from me, and have been nothing but great fun. I'd like to hear from others because there are still quite a few games I have never tried.

UNepic. It's a very unique metroidvania. Probably the best indie game I've ever played.

I'm a big fan of Orcs Must Die!

Actually also did a little review of it in my site:

http://goo.gl/grqYs

Some very good pacing in that game I think. Dungeon Defenders doesn't quite hit the right spot for me

Dungeons of Dredmor might be my favourite, but is it the best? Possibly not.

Hmm I haven't played many, but I have played a couple, There are still some that I really want to play. Two Sales coming this year (one is only 2 weeks away) will prolly get a couple then!

But out of what I have played so far.

I would say Bastion. It had good story, great narration, fantastic music (easily my favorite soundtrack from a game in 2011), the atmosphere of the game was pretty unique and refreshing.

Thanks for mentioning Unepic. I had not heard of it. Just goggled it and it looks great. One of the reasons why I created this thread.

Can Minecraft still be classed as an indie game? The 'Mojang' publisher that they made surley now means it's not an indie game.

It had nearly a 10 million dollar budget, has publishers, and is one of the best known games in Poland. Don't really see how it's an indie game.

HyperWarlock

Mojang is the name of the development studio they made, they still self publish so they are still indie.

My favorite Indie this year was Frozen Synapse.

Bastion by far ... then there is Terraria, UNepic, Dungeon defenders, The binding of Isaac, Hard Reset, Frozen Synapse ... all of these games are good, it's hard to decide the best indie game for this year, not to mention that december is around the corner and who knows what might be hiding around there ...

I really enjoy Binding of Isaac. Looking forward to Orcs Must Die though. Despite my apathy and general dislike for tower defense games, this one looks quite fun.

Tons of good choices this year. Frozen Synapse gets my vote - it's an amazing game in too many respects, and honestly close to perfect in what it tries to achieve. Atom Zombie Smasher for a rather close follow up. Still paying through Bastion, Space Pirates and Zombies, and Gemini Rue (though that was released last year) - which are great so far, and haven't given Fate of the World, Capsized,Terraria and SpaceChem a shot. E.Y.E I need to revisit, it was just boggling on release and Dungeon Defenders was... okay - it's got a lot going for it, but a good chunk of faults. A special mention to Sanctum for being damn good, and Dungeons of Dredmore. Seriously, when you put that all in perspective, it's godamn beautiful how many interesting and diverse independent games there are out there at the moment. Wonderful stuff I say I say.

I haven't purchased an indie game for myself... but I did buy the HumbleBundle for my sister's Mac . I was thinking going solely indie for one whole year... but Diablo 3 might be released next year, so I don't think I can commit.

Err... on second though, actually, I did get The Universe Sandbox - but that's more of a tool than a game.

At the time CD Projekt red had no publishers, which would be the definition of indie, not having a publisher.

They published it themselves just in Poland. Every other region, they had publishers.

Same here, EYE is the awesome sause of Stalker, Deus Ex, Hellgate London all rolled into one. No game surprised me more in the last 5 years than EYE, and that's a good thing.

1. Minecraft

Jacanuk

Since we're talking about games that have been playable since 2009, I'll go ahead and say ArmA 2. Before you say it's not an indie dev, they technically are.

Not Orcs Must Die. I get its only a small game but when you break it down its really not half as clever or as creative as it thinks it is. You can just stack the same traps really. The lack of co-operative play is unforgivable on some levels too

They are part of cdProject Red or was it CDproject anyone one of them is the mother company that throw money at them. They are publishers for poland and a few regions around them large also if i remember correctly (in those regions). But tbh i would not class TW2 as a indie game.

SpaceChem. Such an awesome puzzle game.

cain006

This. Steam says I've put in 80hrs into it and I'm about halfway. Need to start playing again. :) Not for everyone though. Bastion and Torchlight were pretty good and I've yet to play Amnesia. When I built my PC 12 months ago, little did I realize I would be playing more indie and less AAA titles. :)

It's pretty fun, but apparently it's dumbed down compared to most "real" roguelike games.

Well it is in the sense that it's not turned based with all those rules. It's like a mashup of legend of zelda with roguelike elements such as randomness and permadeath (no saving). I love it too! XD
