i have played every single game in the age of empires series to death and i love them all. The series got me into games and history in a deep way.

AOE1 was awesome, and the noise the priest makes is so iconic ("wolowo":D)

Age of Kings game redefined the rts genre.nuff said

Age of mythology was an AWESOME jump to 3d, i played that game online so much.

As for Age of empires 3 and its two expansions, i dont think they get nearly enought love. Alot of people didint like the home city stuff, but i thought it was great. It added persistance and progression between games in a meaningful way, and another layer to strategic play that existed outside of maches. I spent alot of time building decks. Also, that game still looks gorgeous. truly beautiful game.

idk how i feel about the new free to play online venture, im happy to see the franchise come back but to be honest, its definately not the way i wanted to see it happen.

I cant decide between 2, 3 and mythology. i put AT LEAST 100 hours into each. gah. so good. i voted for 3 because, hey, underdog, but i could god pick any of them.

what about you guys!

Well I have played all of the Age games and while I do like Mythology it has to go to Age of Empires 2. Age of Empires 2 was great an the campaigns were such a challenge, but were still so much fun to play. I could just never get into Age of Empires (1) or 3. I did play Age of Empires 2 first though so that may be why I couldn't get into Age of Empires (1) and then 3 just didn't have the same charm as the others. Also I do like stawkwaft, but I voted for Age of Empires 2.

The first Age of Empires had the toughest campaign I have ever played in a strategy game to this very day. Has anyone here beat all the AoE 1 campaigns? The AoE 2 campaigns were almost as difficult. The campaigns of AoE 3 were too easy by comparison.

Age Of Kings was great. When it first came out, it was probably the one game I'd played the most up to that point. I bought the Age Of Empires Collectors edition and hadn't played Age Of Empires 1 before. It was fun, but I couldn't stand to finish it when I had the option of playing 2 instead. I bought 3 in the GFWL store sale recently but have only played about 2 missions. It hasn't hooked me yet, and something about it just doesn't feel right. I still need to play it more though.

The first one was pretty decent. The second one was amazing, one of my childhood games. Age of Mythology was a nice change, not my favorite but very enjoyable. AoE III was good, and I played it. Although, it just didn't have the same feel as AOE II. Overall, all very good and I do like Starcraft. But my choice is AoE II. So sad they're not making games anymore. :(

I never played AoE 2 much but I really enjoyed AoE 1 for being so fun and memorable, awful trying to get handfuls of units across a big map on foot, though.

I liked AoE 2 but I think I liked AoE 3 more. Have to say I loved the gunpowder. And the sea battles were fabulous! I also liked how you can trade with your allies.

AoE2 or AoM. But I'll go with AoE2 because I had a crappy Pentium 1 in 2003 and it surprisingly worked well.

Age of Empires Two is by far the best in terms of replayablity, death match, online, and map builder. However if you include Age of Mythology, You have to agree that the storyline of the game was way beyond epic.

Easily the first. Second was good, hated mythology, and somehow haven't even played 3 despite AOE being my favorite RTS game ever. Really, I don't get what seperated the second from the first. It just felt like they stuck AOE1 into the middle ages.

Of course, I'm biased since the first RTS I really played was AOE1. I spent endless amounts of time on that game.

AoE is my nostalgia factor, i remember fondly playing that a long time ago, and always a warm feeling wen remembering it. Wouldn't have that much fun playing it now though, it wasn't particulary good back then, just more unique, and now i wouldn't pick it up again.

AoE2 is fantastic entry in the series that, by far, massively improved on the first, ageless, and since i enjoyed it for the first time in late 2006, and have replayed it a couple of times each year, i don't got no problem picking it up now, and playing it.

AoE3 is my favorite entry of them all. The visuals are breath taking and ageless due to the artstyle, the gameplay is addictive, and i loved the campaigns far more, aswell as the different characters trough out the ages, that were linked betwen themselfs trough blood. Vanilla AoE3 is, by far, one of the greatest RTSs ever made. Voted for that one.

Never liked its expansions though, they're low on the campain aspect, compared to the masterpiece that is AoE3.

I liked Age of Mythology the best, but it's also the one I got first. I never got into AoE very much, though I played around 10 games or so of 2. I got 3 during that sale and haven't even played anything yet.

I played through them all, I would have to say my favourite has to be Age of Empires 1, or Age of Mythology. Age of Empires 3 was fun, but it didn't hook me like its predecessors did, and the home city was a waste of time and space.

Age of Kings although Age of Mythology was pretty good too.
