AMD is reportedly preparing to mass ship their next generation high-end GPU codenamed Hawaii in October according to sources in the upstream supply chain as reported by DigiTimes. When you consider AMD is flying a number of journalists to Hawaii (no coincidence there) late next month for a technical showcase, this rumor quickly becomes much more credible.

A hard launch coming a couple of weeks after this technical showcases makes sense as it would give journalists and reviewers plenty of time to thoroughly test hardware. Thats been the pattern for both AMD and Nvidia in the past but then again, the source doesnt mention when specifically in October cards would ship. It could be October 1 or October 31 and if its the latter, that means availability could be scarce through November. Either way, however, parts should be available in time for the holiday buying season.

Specifically, DigiTimes believes Asus, MSI and PowerColor will be among the first to ship Hawaii-based products. The company is already cutting prices for its Radeon HD 7000 series cards including the HD 7990.

Word dropped earlier this month that AMD would unveil Hawaii-based GPUs in the Aloha State on September 25. Not much else is known about the event or what the Hawaii GPU has in store other than it is expected to compete against Nvidias top-end offering in the $600 price range. A leaked benchmark showed the card could be faster than Nvidias GTX Titan, at least in 3DMark 11.

The sooner the better. Being asked all the time when the new AMD cards are coming. 2 people got alot of cash to spend.

I told them if they can't wait a GTX 780 will do fine.

Couldn't come out sooner I keep getting tempted to upgrade, but I want to wait for the next series to land. Makes sense coming out in October wouldn't be surprised if their Never settle bundle, added BF4 by then.

Because I keep hearing both things. Some say 20nm production won't start before summer next year, others claim the new series from AMD will be 20nm production.

id say that the geforce 400/500 series was pretty competitive with the AMD 6000 series.

In the (extremely unlikely) case that nVidia slashes some prices in response, I would seriously consider getting a third Titan.

Getting ready to buy a new home...one more discounted Titan will likely be a lot cheaper than 2 high-end next-gen cards, if I think it will last me awhile into the next gen.

I've heard so many issues with 3-way SLI that I really would avoid it personally.

LOLWUT? Microstuttering occurs with 2 cards in sli/crossfire, adding a third card stops the stuttering. There are no issues with 3 and 4 card setups

I would think Nvidia would slash the prices on the 700 series, not the Titans.

I'm really looking forward to this series for my next computer, if its no good I'll just get a GTX 780 HOF. No way it will be 20nm, if it is, it would blow the top off the 700 series. But no way

The scaling is terrible at that point, it's not worth it unless you're doing triple-monitor gaming.

Other than the fact that the 4th card adds the barest amount of performance increase.

Yes it will be 20nm. Most major manufactuers (such as TSMC) will be mass producing 20nm chips starting early 2014

Rumor for sure. Not only can TSMC not do full mass production yet but they also have other clients that are higher priority than AMD

Why are your finances combined if you aren't even married?  It's your money, you worked for it, it is none of her business what you spend it on as long as you pay your portion of the expenses.

I've been married for 10 years.  We both contribute to pay for expenses and we have a joint "fun for both people fund"  we also each have our own "the other person has no say how this is spent" fund.

Before we got married, we each paid our portion of expenses and neither person had any say in how the other person spent their own money.

umm, during that time AMD was walking all over nvidia, they had a majority market share of discrete video card sales IIRC.  The highest end AMD cards was the 4890 and I think that card did pretty well against the geforce 295.  That competitive pricing almost killed nvidia, not the other way around.  That good luck rolled into the hd 5000 series which nvidia didn't have an answer to until the geforce 400 series.

You don't remember very well.  The 4890 was the rough equivalent of the GTX 275.  The 275 was actually faster though.

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Sapphire/HD_4890/29.html

The 4870 X2 was fast, but extremely power-hungry, hot, and had horrible driver support.  Nvidia was never in any danger from the HD3000 or 4000 series.  AMD's pricing on the 4000 series kept them in the game, but they were definitely the underdog.

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/hardware/2009/04/30/nvidia-increases-market-share/

The HD5000 series was a real win for AMD, since they had the only DX11 discrete GPUs on the market for 6 months.

Why do you insist on continually posting AMD propaganda that isn't supported by facts?

Why are your finances combined if you aren't even married?  It's your money, you worked for it, it is none of her business what you spend it on as long as you pay your portion of the expenses.

I gather you have no real aspect on love/relationship. Leaving one out shows you do not care.

Why is everyone ignoring this guy lol

Cause as far as that statement is concerned he's wrong.

It's pretty much guranteed to be 28nm.

This is a pretty good speculative thread :http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2337306.

Most people seem to think amd will go for a card that'll compete with the 780.

Because we live together and have a child? While it really isn't her business what I spend my extra money on, I know her well enough to know that she will react on it. We also need a lot of basic stuff for our home. Oh and my savings account could do with more money in it-

That would seem really odd if it took AMD until the end of the year to release cards to compete with the ones Nvidia released near the start of it. Not to mention I wonder what naming cycle they would use next year, I thought they didn't use the 8000 series name because they didn't want it to just be a "Refresh".

Huh? 780 was released halfway through this year. And Nvidia have done that before (HD5000 vs GTX400). Unless you're talking about Titan.

Exactly. Titan is a niche of a niche market, which AMD was already competing with and was beating with their AIB's custom 7990s.

AMD was actually talking about changing the naming scheme for their GCN lineup, Southern Islands, but decided to wait on it.

In the (extremely unlikely) case that nVidia slashes some prices in response, I would seriously consider getting a third Titan.

clyde46

I would think Nvidia would slash the prices on the 700 series, not the Titans.

they also said that kamille bidan couldnt beat the titans.. prooved them wrong he did. and he killed sirocco in his "o"

GUNDAM REFERENCE FTW!

Not sure why this thread is now about finances and significant others...
