Hey guys, I'll be going for a Ryzen build next month and I'll also need a brand new Motherboard that supports Ryzen in the matter of speak. I've only recently learned that some motherboards have built-in Wi-Fi now. I tend not to follow computer tech like Motherboards and such until I actually start thinking of doing a brand new build, so I kinda get left behind on that PC component lol. So guys, is it worth a damn generally, or is it a token thrown in feature that doesn't rival, say, getting a decent dongle and sticking it in a USB 3.0 slot or something?

Please note, I don't have the space to go all Ethernet cable and Wi-Fi is all I have all over the house.

I'm sure it's really not too much different than a dongle.

Used built in wifi, pci cards, dongles..

All seems the same to me. Wired is the best tho.

All good in my experience, some can allow the change of network cards, or whatever you call them.

If you can't use an ethernet cable, then wifi mobo is fine. They usually don't cost much more than the same model without wifi.

Are they worth it? Well, you can just compare the prices. But you don't chose motherboards based on that, you look at the VRM section first, then expansion and USB slots, M2 slots, fan headers, onboard sound (if you will use onboard of course), make sure it has all you need. Wi-fi is so cheap and widely available it's the last thing you should worry about.

I had great luck with my ASRock K10N780SLIX3-Wifi board when I had my Phenom II x4 940. The wifi on it with the antenna was great for the 2-3 years I used it. I eventually moved things around and went with a wired connection. The only real upside though, is that it will save you from having to buy a USB dongle or a PCI card, which was the main reason I got the board I had.

I haven't had any other motherboards with wifi since, but my experience with it was good.

Built in wifi is cool. Dongle works great too. Now built in bluetooth is definitely worth as it all works so much better than a BT dongle for whatever reasons. If a motherboard includes BT and wifi built in I would have to recommend it.

See if you can find any reviews on that part of it. I had one back in 2012 or 2013, but the antenna was weak and ended up buying a USB powered one.

You can get boards with wifi with external antennas.

Couple of options b450 chipset: GIGABYTE B450 AORUS PRO WIFI, or MSI B450 GAMING PRO CARBON AC

X470 chipset you have GIGABYTE X470 AORUS GAMING 5 WIFI, MSI X470 Gaming M7 AC

I dont think so.

Either I do not understand how it works or its just horrible but the Desktop wifi could barely even pick up a signal outside the box when the router is sitting on top of the Box itself.

I am incline to think I was doing something wrong with setup but I got it worked out with USB instead

GIGABYTE X470 AORUS GAMING 5 WIFI (AMD Ryzen AM4 I'll go with this motherboard and I read the reviews, all were positive and thanks :)

You are most likely limited by the router or whatever is hosting the wifi than the receiver card
