Have any of you ever visited the Politics section on Yahoo Answers? It makes me want to shoot myself. Check it out if you have the time.

The site as a whole is good, but I have visited the Politics section, and I know what you mean. It's abysmal :(

I had an account on that website but I terminated it after a week or two. I was kind of depressed at the time and there were a few douche bags on there.

Yahoo answers is a pretty helpful site. I've gotten lots of helpful answers on computer issues and car maintenance.

"My chair smells really awful and I don't know why...?"

but yeah... politics is one of the worst... :|

I wouldn't bother going onto something like the Politics section, though in general Yahoo Answers is great.

I usually enjoy Yahoo Answers as I have always been able to get what I needed from it.

I just checked the political section on Yahoo Answer, it might serve you better to stick with GS. Every once in awhile we do have some pretty good discussion on politics here and it actually got me interested in the topic, something I never thought would happen :)

What I see on there:

people asking questions that you can find an answer for in literally seconds on your own, people asking others to make decisions for them, people attempting to seem smart, and people answering questions with the first thing that pops up on Google.

It's pretty much a waste of time.

I love Yahoo Answers! I rarely ask questions though, because most of the time it's already been asked. I never went into the politics section though. Which makes me wonder... why can't some people here just use that site or wiki and such to find the answer to their questions instead of making a topic? I mean you are already on the internet.

A lot of times, that answer I find on my own, is from a Yahoo Answer question someone else asked. I've never asked anything on that site myself, but I've added the word "yahoo" in my Google search cuz I wasn't finding what I wanted and then I found it. Yahoo Answers FTW!

I like it. Often a Y!A question is the first google result whenever I google something, and it's been very useful to me on many occasions.

That said a lot of the questions on there can fall into one of three categories:

- Questions posted by idiots
- Questions posted by trolls
- Questions posted by fetishists

The latter two categories actually make up a large proportion of the posts on Y!A, especially in certain sections like the parenting section where I dare say that 90% of the posts are written by fetishists or trolls. If you've ever wondered why so many questions on Y!A are so weird, that's the reason.

It's not a bad first port of call if you find out someone else has already asked the same obscure question, but I would never take anything I read there as fact, just a pointer for what else to search for.

I used Yahoo answers for AP Biology labs. My teacher usually took questions from an .edu site, and students always posted the exact questions on Yahoo Answers.

Yahoo Answers exist to service people who don't have more than 8 seconds to google the topic they are interested in. They lack the research skills which are otherwise essential for completing high school and or college.

I find that on some subjects on Yahoo Answers people usually know what they're talking about but in some subjects people are just downright stupid. The only section where I get reliable answers is the Military section.

Even though I use it sometimes.... It's baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad!

I mean theres a lot of douche bags.

When it comes to relationshio questions, religion, or music they're terrible, even with health help they act like douche bags.

The only thing I had luck with is tech questions, and that's only a start off most of the time and then I'll have to figure the rest on other sites. And sometimes many more girls get on the tech boards and give answers to questions they know nothing about.

Yahoo! Answers can give rather good advices without sometimes being backed up by reliable sources. The whole concept of the project involves IMO other people helping persons in need. They are of course, most of the time, no experts but all in all, one can easily find useful tips.
