Porcupine Tree - The Incident. It's a good album, but I was expecting it to be far far better. I'd rate it a few notches below Fear of a Blank Planet atm. Just too far between great moments on the album. That said, I do like it, it's just not as good as I wanted it to be.

Yep...seemed a little underdeveloped. If they had found a way to incorporate the four separate songs seamlessly into the rest of the concept, I think it would have solved the problem. I do like it but yes, it was too rushed to have any of the really soaring, emotional moments in it.
I think the four songs are meant to be seperate, its the first CD which is meant to be mostly one consistant theme. I thought i drive the hearse was a pretty emotionally soaring part.
I Drive the Hearse was indeed decent. Blind House, Octane Twisted, and Circle of Manias are exceptional and represent the direction in which I believe the band needs to go. Kneel & Disconnect and Time Flies were alright, and the verses during Drawing the Line were fairly cool. The rest I could take or leave. I realize the other four are meant to be separate, but I think they should have been written into The Incident concept.
I'm a very avid drummer and formally educated musician...Gavin Harrison and the music in general just didn't do it for me this time. While I typically look to bands like Tool and The Mars Volta for percussive, rhythmically varied, skill-intense rock music, Porcupine Tree impressed me with their last 3 albums, and I was hoping The Incident would do the same. It's alright though; I'm sure they will bounce back with the next one. They're a good band.
