For me? It's gotta be "Monster Monster" by The Almost. It's the bands sophomore effort. It doesn't sound anything like their first album, which was perfect BTW. There's maybe two songs on this one that I even remotely like. What a shame. It was one of the albums of 2009 that I was anticipating the most. What about you?

Porcupine Tree - The Incident. It's a good album, but I was expecting it to be far far better. I'd rate it a few notches below Fear of a Blank Planet atm. Just too far between great moments on the album. That said, I do like it, it's just not as good as I wanted it to be.

The new Nightrage album for me.

I was hyped as I really enjoyed their first and third albums. I ended up not enjoying the new one at all...

They're still an amazing band, and I'm sure it will be an awesome concert. It's just that the new album seems just empty to me. It doesn't really have an identity. The first album was very reminiscent of Underoath, and felt like a new take on the music that Underoath created. But this album just seems like it's trying to fit in with the rest of the alternative rock/emo community. It's wholly and completely without a soul, and it saddens me greatly. But don't let my pessimistic and melancholy opinions stop you from enjoying your concert. I'm sure it'll be spectacular.

two of my fav bands: muse - resistance - while still stellar, its too mellow and less riff/rock oriented than previous albums (origin of symmetry being my favorite album) green day - 21st century breakdown - too poppy, over produced, not as gritty as previous albums. dookie is still the best...

Jay Z: the Blue Print 3 (the writing was alright but those tracks produced by Kanye and company most of them were pretty mediocre IMO)

the Mars Volta: Octahedron (It wasn't bad but Idid expect more out of it)

Thank you... One of the only Porcupine Tree fans to ever admit this, not only on OT but at my work too. Im not a hardcore PT fan, however I do own a majority of their albums and I honestly thought The Incident was just "meh." Too bad everyone else thinks otherwise...

I only know of one single album that was released in 2009, and that was Black Gives Way to Blue, so... I guess that one by default, despite the fact that I thought it was amazing. :P

I disagree and agree :P

I thought The Blueprint was such a huge step forward in mainstream rap. The really great thing about Jay Z is he can bridge a gap between underground styles to mainstream familiarities. I think its an exceptional attempt ,and a hip hop album with high calibor and effort as opposed to everything else on the same market. It may not be his best work but its way better than his recent work (*cough Kingdom Come cough*)

I know what you mean about mars volta, but the album was good. I think my expectations were too high. However, a small problem I found was that I feel like MV are losing their originality and their charm. They are a fantastic and unique band, but they continue with that "unique" same sound, and Its not evolving into anything other than more familiar Mars Volta albums.

Echo and the bunnymen- The Fountain- Very dull album.

The Mars Volta- octahedron- More melodic then their last, but still pretty underwhelming.

I understand why you dislike it. Even though I really liked it, I do think they need a sound change on their next album. For a while they were the best of their kind, but now I think bands like Riverside, Frost, and Oceansize are starting to get better and better. With that said though I still think it is one of the best albums of 2009 and it stands next to Lightbulb sun, Deadwing, and In Absentia as one of their best and most consistant.

Yep...seemed a little underdeveloped. If they had found a way to incorporate the four separate songs seamlessly into the rest of the concept, I think it would have solved the problem. I do like it but yes, it was too rushed to have any of the really soaring, emotional moments in it.

I think the four songs are meant to be seperate, its the first CD which is meant to be mostly one consistant theme. I thought i drive the hearse was a pretty emotionally soaring part.

Process of a New Decline by Gorod. Becoming a more generic tech death band with tons of wankery and lack of any real riffs with an extremely sterile production was a terrible idea.

I Drive the Hearse was indeed decent. Blind House, Octane Twisted, and Circle of Manias are exceptional and represent the direction in which I believe the band needs to go. Kneel & Disconnect and Time Flies were alright, and the verses during Drawing the Line were fairly cool. The rest I could take or leave. I realize the other four are meant to be separate, but I think they should have been written into The Incident concept.

I'm a very avid drummer and formally educated musician...Gavin Harrison and the music in general just didn't do it for me this time. While I typically look to bands like Tool and The Mars Volta for percussive, rhythmically varied, skill-intense rock music, Porcupine Tree impressed me with their last 3 albums, and I was hoping The Incident would do the same. It's alright though; I'm sure they will bounce back with the next one. They're a good band.

I have to agree with this, though I havn't really heard much music from this year to be honest. It was largelydisapointing though, some good moments, but between the hit and miss songs and the drawn out, and frankly, most boring instrumental I've heard in a long while, the album just failed to live up to the quality of their better albums. It's not awful, just "meh". I'm not entirely sure what people see in it.

Enter metropolis by dúné. Just started listening to it today. I would have expected the band to have grown as artists since their debut album, but i was wrong.

It´s more of the same. Not bad, just... More of the same. Not good enough

Dirty Projectors - "Bitte Orca" was widely hyped and it really didn't pay off. Was middle-of-the-road at best. Super Furry Animals - "Dark Days/Light Years" was mediocre. Too huge a gap between the good songs and bad songs. WTH was up with "Crazy naked Girls"? Terrible song. Reminded me kind of My Morning Jacket's "Highly Suspicious", but HS was an incredible song. :P AC Newman - "Get Guilty" was disappointing, as The new pornographers are so good, and this album was very blah and hook-less. Iran - "Dissolver" because it was hyped and had a TVotR member working on it. I expected more than a sub-mediocre album. All these are typed for the top place.

Porcupine Tree- The Incident

Muse- The Resistence

Both of these are disappointing compared to the previous releases. Both of them fail at the "lets have one big song cut up into a bunch of songs"

Brand New's Daisy. At first, I really disliked it. After a few listens, it grew on me. It's still a huge disappointment. I shouldn't have expected the greatness of The Devil and the God, but I thought I would get something that was towards that direction. What I got was a hit and miss. Be Gone is probably the worst thing they've ever done. The lyrics are really lacking. It just feels like a half-assed album, especially when you compare it to Deja and The Devil and the God.

I was a bit disappointed with The Resistance, because Guiding Light is the worst song Muse has ever made. I'm surprised with the disappointment with 21CB, since it blew me away, and was worth the 4 years of waiting.

[QUOTE="btaylor2404"]Green Day's new one. I loved American Idiot, and I still listen to it all the time, this one, 1 month at the most.HybridPhoenix
dIdn't even make it that far for me, I listened to it a few times at work, once or twice at home and moved on

i felt the same way, especially since american idiot was so awesome that the new album could never live up to it. but it's actually starting to grow on me now, and the songs i didn't like on it before are the ones i can't stop listening to now, like the title track.

I think its much better than American Idiot. More variety, and much more epic overall.
