It's slightly biased, but after watching it I was sorta iffy about religions.

You know, based on my experience, that's actually true. The loudest ones are from strictly religious families.
I went to a religious school and was brought up a Christian. (insert response in caps for humorous effect here)It ruins productivity and the human race thats why.lucky326
The human race has existed about 4 million years. Since culture started existing about 10-20 thousand years ago, and since religion has been around as long as culture (is even an integral part of it), and since humanity seems to be doing fine, I'd say that statement is inaccurate.
I came from an extrememly christian family, although i dont hate christians i laugh at most of the thing in the bible and find it ofdd that anyone would actually pay any attention to itNumCha
A large portion of the New Testament, which forms the basis of the Christian faith, is filled with life lessons that are applicable regardless of whether or not one is a Christian. I think one of the big problem is that the holy roller types tend to only expound about the verses that drive away non-believers, which leads to them believing that that's all there is in the Bible.
It ruins productivity and the human race thats why.lucky326
On average, religious people in America tend to be much more generous than non-religious people. The idea that every religious person is like the preachers you find on a street corner is patently false.

Scientific advancements should never, ever be made at the expense of human life. That's not religion; that's simple humanity.

I hate how so many people think every religious person is like a preacher.
So I agree with you thats false that they are all preacheres.
I've never had a religious person try to convert me.
I have had many non religious people tell me to not be a Catholic anymore, and they always think the world will end cause all the religious people always have wars.
Well if there was only non religious people on this earth for the past 20,000 years, then no one would have said it was wrong to kill anyone or rob, so the humans would have died out along time ago due to people killing each other more then they do now.
Firstly, while I say I'm an athiest, I'm probably more agnostic because I just don't know, but I severely doubt the existance of a god.
Secondly "hate" is a pretty strong word. Resentment is probably a better word.
And why? Because, if I wrote a book and told you I was the son of god would you believe me? So why should you believe a 2000 year old book where people had almost literally no understanding of the way the world really works (i.e. things science have since explained). Sure, the Bible has a few moral stories and ways to help people, but as soon as you start attributing every good thing in your life to an imaginary being you stop giving yourself, humanity, credit--and then, when something bad happens you say "we brought this on ourselves. We strayed away from the light. God is displeased with us," like it's OUR fault, and not as equally of a cosmic coincidence as the good things you just attributed to you imaginary saviour.
Also, I think religion is a dumb idea. If you know ancient Roman history and Greek history and how their religions change, and how the Catholic Church has changed to "fit the times," well that's not religion. That's a fan club. Islam is the only thing that kinda fits under what I'd call religion, but I find it, even it's most lax groups, to still be pretty extreme, compared to some of the liberal ideals I hold (note some, not all, or even many).
And then we have the fundamentalists who take everything literally.
And people who will "pray for me."
People who think they'll be going somewhere better when they die.
Religion is a sad attempt to make life better than it really is, to give humanity and life some meaning other than "just because."
