I never understood why Che Guevara T-shirts (see pic below) are so popular, especially among youth. Do people who wear them even know who he was or what he did?

The are called psuedo-intellectuals. They want people to think they are cultured and intelligent, when in fact, most don't know who he was or what he did.

They're probably people who despise authority. And no, most of them don't know who he was or what he did.

Because they are ignorant and/or pretencious. Either that or they really are stupid enough to support the guys ideas. Of course the grand irony of it all is that companies are making a profit off of this commie

They are mostly worn by college students as a symbol of rebellion, being non conformists and going against the establishment. It's stupid really, most of them don't know anything about him.

The picture itself is Iconic. People probably just think they a cool wearing it, even though they know nothing of who he was or what he did.

Ring-a-ding-ding we have a winner. That picture of Che Guevara is the most reproduced photograph in history, although anybody who understood anything about what he did and stood for ideologically would be angry at the commercial appropriation of his image and style, that Madonna album cover where she dresses like him, she deserves a good slap for that..

No it's not. People know who Biggie Smalls, 2pac, and Tony Montana are and why they are famous. Besides, they are entertainers and artists, Che wasn't too much into the entertainment industry.

That's assuming they agree with his ideology. If they don't, it's a nice slap in the face to him that his image is so commercialized.

The ironic thing is when wealthier people wear the shirt. It's also ironic since his picture is reproduced, put on a tshirt and sold for economic gain.Socialism is garbage. While I completely disagree with Che's viewpoints, I have to admit it's an awesome shirt. I wouldnt wear it though.

Because they think being a Socialist makes them look intelligent and rebellious. The fact is, anyone who understands what Che was fighting for would laugh at them.

Ok smartasses.

I wore mine today. But heres the deal:

-Unlike the other morons, I have actually been to Cuba (where I got the shirt)
-He helped free the Cuban people from the Batista dictatorship and then cleaned up the streets of Mafia and crime
-I may not be communist, but I see how it can be a viable system of Gov't (See Cuba! Best healthcare in America!)
-I don't have a damn acoustic guitar
-I don't listen to Radiohead or any other fools like that.
-And yes, I like wearing it just because it pisses people off, like the ones on this forum.
-Oh, and I get good grades. So I guess I can be called a Pseudo-Intellectual, right!

Well, I doubt you get good grades in Social Studies. America encompasses TWO continents. There is North and South America. Now, I think you were thinking of "United States of America". If that were the case, I would have said US, or USA. It's much easier to type, no?

Dont question my intelligence. You'd lose.

Well, up here in Canada, we don't view you guys as the center of all things good and fluffy. And good job on not including Canada in your definition of "Americas".Thanks for the recognition. And I see you're using one of the "10 rules of arguing on Gamespot" by calling me Chief. Don't bother, it doesn't piss me off as much as you think it does ;).

Greedo_What

Last time I checked Cuba wasnt in America. Getting good grades has nothing to do with being a pseudo-intellectual.

Well, I doubt you get good grades in Social Studies. America encompasses TWO continents. There is North and South America. Now, I think you were thinking of "United States of America". If that were the case, I would have said US, or USA. It's much easier to type, no?

Cuba doesnt belong to America chief...
America=USA Americas=USA+South America

Canada had nothing to do with the discussion. Somehow you decided Cuba is part of South America...

Cuba's part of North America IE Central America. And that is called America, no? Anyways, if you want to argue about America, make another thread. Instead, argue why I'm wrong for liking my Che t-shirt.
