Why are Che Guevara T-shirts so popular?

I never understood why Che Guevara T-shirts (see pic below) are so popular, especially among youth. Do people who wear them even know who he was or what he did?

They are mostly worn by college students as a symbol of rebellion, being non conformists and going against the establishment. It's stupid really, most of them don't know anything about him.milsvaard

No it's not. People know who Biggie Smalls, 2pac, and Tony Montana are and why they are famous. Besides, they are entertainers and artists, Che wasn't too much into the entertainment industry.

That picture embodies rebelliousness and revolution. I seriously doubt most know exactly what he did, but they understand what it is symbolizing.
