considering how the War of 1812 led to the economic collapse of the British Empire (not the only thing that led to the collapse) ..... Id say the USA won.

Yes techincally it was a tie. The Brits burned washington and while they celebrated that a tornado came out of nowhere and made them leave the city as I recall. Also the battle of New Orleans (which actually happened after the treaty was signed) was a pretty impressive victory for the U.S

I think the War of 1812 was pretty much a tie, wasn't it?

In fact, that's when the word "antebellum" was used, which refers to maintaining the way things were before the war. If I'm correct, neither side made any gains or suffered any losses in terms of spoils of war.

Americans had the intent to Invade Canada. They failed to do so and their capital city was nearly razzed. I wouldn't call it a win but it certainly was a failed attempt.

This one was a "tie." The only clear losers were various Indian groups.

As far as the actual fighting it was definitely a U.S loss because they failed to accomplish there objectives while the British/Canadians succeeded at there's.

It is your opinion then that the objective of any nation attacked by another is solely the maintenance of the status quo?

Surf the internet long enough, and you'll eventually start to think America lost every war it's ever been in.

[QUOTE="scorch-62"][QUOTE="Bourbons3"][QUOTE="scorch-62"] What did Germany do to London in WW2 again? And who lost that war?

And what do you think happened to Berlin? There wasn't much left by the time the Russians got there. :P

If victory went to who took/destroyed the most capitals (your apparent views of victory and loss), Germany alone would have won WW2 by seizing Paris (among the other capitals they took) and razing London. The United States firebombed Tokyo and the Russians pimp-slapped Berlin. So in other words, your terms of victory and loss are flawed.

London wasn't razed, just bombed. And Berlin was pimp-slapped to hell before the Russians got there, thanks to the RAF. And yes they got Paris - but we got it back. Plus we got Rome. Don't be mean. :P

Sad that the Russian lost almost 1,000,000 men just tripping over debris.;)

I spell and pronounce aluminum "aluminum", not "aluminium", thats all I care about.;)

yes. britain was in a life or death war with france. The last thing they needed was to sail 3000 miles to fight what they saw, as a pointless war

Well, considering that the British successfully defended it's colony and the U.S. failed in it's military objective to take the colony, I would say Britain won.
