I'm still in Icelandic classes (seeing as it's my native language), but I'm also taking English, French and just got an advanced level in Danish (though I can really only read it, speaking it isn't my forte).

In middle school I took French and found it boring as hell. In high school I took two years of Spanish and found it boring as hell. Currently in college I'm taking Japanese which I'm actually finding pretty interesting.

It's become my opinion over the past month that the Romance languages are the most boring languages a person could choose to study. It's probably part of the reason why Americans don't try to learn a second language; they're only exposed to the usual French and Spanish during school (and maybe German). Our schools need to start diversifying their language options. Instead of offering nothing but European languages they should at least throw in an Eastern language like Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, or Russian.

I've been taking french since grade 1. Since I'm in my second year of college now, that makes a grand total if 12 years of french, and I still suck at it! Je suis tres fache parce que je n'aime pas le francais.

I took French from grades 5 to 9. I took two years of university level Japanese. And plan on doing some kind of Masters or graduate program in Sanskrit in the future at some point.

Parce que ma francais est tres mal, et les person francais rire a moi quand je parle en francais. +1 croissant if you can understand my terrible french.

Ca, c'est triste :( I'm still learning French, so I could be wrong here, but you'd want to say "mon francais" since French, the language, is masculine. Also, I think you'd want to use "mauvais" instead of "mal". Use "personnes". Remember, 'people' is plural. You want to conjugate "rire" to 'rient'. And I don't think you'd use "en" since that generally refers to a quantity previously mentioned. So: "Parce que mon francais est tres mauvais, et les personnes francais rient a moi quand je parle francais." :)

You won't really understand them even if you become fluent in the language. I sure don't.

I didn't take any language in high school since I was able waive the Spanish requirement because I already speak it. I'm in Italy this year studying Italian in Florence though so that rocks.

Three years of German, five years of French. Then one month of Ancient Greek at uni, before I realised that I wasn't going to catch up with all the Greek people in the class.
