Now I am a keen meat eater, I love a good burger and some chicken, but do you ever think about how these animals were once treated?

I'm currently watching a documentary called "Earthlings" and at one point they quoted Isaac Bashevis Singer saying "As often as Herman had witnessed the slaughter of animals and fish, he always had the same thought: in their behaviour towards creatures, all men were Nazis. The smugness with which man could do with the other species as he pleased exemplified the most extreme racist theories, the principle that might is right."

What are your thoughts on this? I feel a little guilty but I will continue to eat meat.

I also think that using "all men were Nazis" is not really a good example, I thought it was laughable.

I love meat. Beef, Chicken and pork. If I don't have meat during a meal I don't feel full for some reason.

Nope. I love my eat and the way I see it, the animals are going to end up dead anyway, so why not be a delicious meal instead?

Most of the footage that people cite in reference to production farming is outdated. Production farming has gotten a serious facelift as information about bad practices became more readily available. It is also necessary to think that the animals are the product from which a farmer makes his living. The more bruised, beaten, mal-nourished, and generally bad condition that his product is in, the less money he will receive for it when it goes to market. Are there bad farms? Yes. Are all farms bad? Certainly not. I view it as a non-issue and if you think about it logically, how else are you going to feed 6 billion people? On a side note, I have stopped eating beef because it makes me feel like crap. I'll still eat chicken, turkey, pork, and fish though.

Well, I'm a vegetarian. I don't really like eating meat, and I can't help but feel bad for the animals that are killed for food.

I love to fish for dinner when I can (sometimes it's breakfast) and have no problem with having to kill the fish for the meat it provides me. I don't think of how the cows, chicken or pigs are killed when I put them on my plate for a tasty meal. If it meat weren't meant to be eaten, then why was it made to taste so good?

I'm vegetarian by choice. People shouldnt indocrinate vegetarianism though. It was once necessary but now its not and the way they're killed is a bit too cruel for my liking. And people who cant live without meat are like smokers to me. The amount of stick i get for it is embarrassing though.

I don't understand this post... you gave up something, because you didn't like the other people who did it?

I certainly don't like some of the people who breath oxygen, but certainly wouldn't give up breathing just to distance myself from them. That'd be silly.

I long for the day science makes killing current animals obsolete. We need to invent new and unique creatures to kill and eat.

I love meat, but I dont like treating of the animals like some kind of factory production. People act like bull fighting is so inhumane yet its the only way I believe we should get meat, by defeating it in battle, Only the strong or smart should get to eat other animals. It sometimes pisses me off thinking about animals just being slaughtered with no thought and a lot of it being wasted and thrown away like it was a piece a trash, if we are going to consume other animals we should at least have the respect to do it out of necessity and and consume and use the entire beast. But there's nothing I can do about it.

Bull fighting isnt exactly fair, and i love it when a bull is temporarily victorious and almost kills the matador, its beautiful. I have no problem with tribes and inuits etc etc who treat their prey with respect and dont slaughter them, i dont have a problem with that its nature.

I like this point of view.

I do get some flak for being a vegetarian from people who eat meat. Jabs here and there, and of course there's always someone who needs to feed their ego by declaring how delicious meat is, yet a lot of people probably couldn't even handle killing an animal if they were face to face with one.
It's rather frusterating...

If you're hungry it's pretty easy to pull the trigger or do a few stabbings. And good luck trying to feed an entire populating by "defeating" each and every animal we eat. Work smart, not hard.

That would be called Veal, and yes you are correct. Cows only produce milk after they have birthed a calf, and male calves are essentially "useless" in production dairy farming.

Thats pretty much what I mean by "defeating" is just hunting you're own meat you dont have to go colosseum on them it was just a little example. And I couldnt care less about the entire population, here in the U.S were one of the fattest if not fattest country in the world I think eating less and having to go out and work for our food would do us some good.

I love meat. I love the flavour, I love the texture... and I just leave hearing it sear on a grill. That said, I sometimes have problems with whether or not it is "necessary" to truly eat it, at least as much as I do.

I also think that using "all men were Nazis" is not really a good example, I thought it was laughable.

CBR600-RR

In a wide general sense I don't think it's comaprable at all. Firstly, we're not undertaking the systematic destruction of an entire animal species... we're killing on a large scale, for food. Could we tone down the amount of animals we kill? Possibly, I honestly have no idea. What's important is that if we're going to do it we do it humanely - as in, quick and painless. No one likes to suffer and making animals suffer while we carve them up is horrible. At the base level we're still meat-eating animals, the only difference is we're not going to stalk cattle and tear into their flesh with out teeth and claws and eat them while they're still alive, struggling to get free until they finally bvleed to death. We're going to use knives and machines, so we should, as compassionate humans, make sure that slaughter houses kill quickly and cleanly with as little pain to the animal as physically possible.

Nope, don't care how they were treated, they're not sentient. They taste good, and they have to die somehow, or they'll not be able to be converted into yummy food.

You needn't mock me to get your point accross...

I'm well aware that the entire population cannot be responsible for hunting their own food.
I'm merely commenting on the people who have the need to feed their ego by putting down another group.

I couldn't kill for meat so I was a hypocrite to continue eating it, so I stopped. The day I can look an animal in the eye minutes beforekilling it I'll turn the gun on myself. I'd rather a world where animals weren't used the way they are, but I can't see that ever happening. So, I live my life in the following way: "Be the change you want to see in the world." - Gandhi

I don't everargue with people who eat meat, they made their choice and I made mine. And that's that!
