My fourth grade year was the year my school district decided everyone had to wear uniforms and it was that way all the way up until high school where we could finally pick our own clothes.

I wasn't required to wear a school uniform, but my high school and some other schools in the county almost had a uniform requirement.

No. I wore a lot of hockey jerseys though. Does that count?

My high school had a dress code and we were required to wear either a school blazer or sweater.

In elementary school. And part of middle school. I was one of the few that liked it. It meant not having to decide what I want to wear.

Fortunately, no. I always used to dread the idea of having to go to a school that required a uniform.

Nope. My HS didn't have a dresscode beyond nothing drug or hate related (or just something completely over the top).

I believe that wearing a uniform is compulsory in all schools in Australia......though there's probably the rare exception...

I did from the age 6 - 16. For five years it included a blazer, trousers, shirt and tie. The other years were just trousers and a school jumper.

Not yet. But my school system does want to implement one. I'm part of the minority of students that wouldn't mind. A school uniform can be done well.

Well growing up as an underprivledged member of an impoverished family i only ever had one "set" of clothes at any given time. I wore the same thing every single day until i outgrew it ( and sometimes long after that ) before replacements were purchased.

It was much like a uniform and i always thought of it as such.

Never.. Just as long as drugs, hate, profanity was on the visible shirt.. Or it was too revealing.. Outside of that nothign really.. Looking back at it.. I really think a stricter dress code would be put in favor, as close to a uniform as possible but not a uniform.. Clothing, something extremely meaningless when going to school becomes the forefront of many teens that get teased if their parents don't get them socially acceptable clothing thats expensive enough. I personally only had this happen in Middle School, but I can see how such a ridiculous thing looking back can be a serious fear/concern for many teens.

Just the usual. No drugs, profanity or anything offensive. Skirts/Shorts had to be a over a certain length.

The closest I've ever been in a uniform was in 6th grade. You could only wear 3 colors of polo shirts (red, white, and blue), two colors of khakis (blue and, well, kahki), and a belt.

Yes, and I hated it. Looking back, I was just reacting to the class struggles inherent in a middle class kid attending a wealthy private school. I rebelled, and part of that rebellion was complaining about the uniforms.

Yes in primary and secondary school - no in 6th form. It was then I realised that having a uniform was a good thing as I woke up every day having no idea what I was going to wear. I have a uniform at work too which I'm thankful for!

I kinda wish I had, because when I look back at my pics, I had no sense of style or matching until I hit high school really. Who knew you could clash things with blue jeans, right?

That's pretty much what I had, but our school color was maroon so we got that too. We also had a light blue.

It's not necessarily just for private schools. Some public schools also require them.

Yeah I did when I was put into a private Episcopal school when I lived in Pasadena as a child in order to avoid the forced busing action that had been implemented. We wore some kind of itchy faded yellow shirt and blue pants I believe but my memory is pretty fuzzy on the whole episode.

Nope. Went to a private school for K-8th and we never had one. There was a dress code though. And my public highschool never had one either. I wish they'd ban flip flops though, so girls have ugly feet. *shudders*

Is no uniform pretty standard for you US guys?

In the UK here we have to wear school uniform mostly until we go to college/sixth form which I guess is the equivalent to high school? The year or two before you go to University? I have no idea to be honest :P

I think every school in Australia has to have a uniform ... and my school was extremely strict about it too ...
