What is the quota for moderators?

One of us gets sacrificed to the sun god each month. No more and no less.

Why won't you let us view the moderator-only forum?

Please refer to the question I answered earlier on cats and the question I answered about The Sims.

Are you planning something there?

If we do, I sure as hell hope it's something funner than this last April Fool's prank. I think we may have overreacted a bit from the reaction of the April Fool's previous to that where a few folks got butt hurt and swore to never come here again when we pretended to ban Russ and Spazz and swung way too much in the timid direction. MY idea was a bunch of fake news stories about things that everyone would go absolutely crazy over like an article about a confirmed sequel to Planescape: Torment and other things that NEED to happen.

No, don't give me some coy answer with a smiley at the end of it, tell the truth.

Fine. At the moment the mod forums are exceedingly lame and boring due to a lot of folks being busy and not around a whole lot. The most interesting thing that's happened there recently has been an ongoing fight between a couple of folks that makes me want to take them both out into my back yard and spank them. :D

I'm serious, tell me the truth.

You want answers?

What are you hiding from regular users?

Have you SMELLED the regular users?! (Not really. Actually, I've been thinking that I've been needing to reconnect to the community a bit more lately in a USER capacity. I almost never posted on the forums before becoming a moderator. I was a Soapbox user, a Top-100 reviewer, and a prolific blogger. All of that stuff fell off after becoming a moderator. I'd like to start doing more of that again.)

How many times have you moderated me?

I have no idea and I'm too lazy to check so I'm going to make a number up.

25

Oh, don't say you can't say it. PM me if you have to.

Fine. I'll check. One second....actually never.

Doesn't really mean much as I am, as I just said, incredibly lazy. I spend so little time in the queue I'm amazed Jody hasn't fired my ass for deriliction of duty by now.

Come on, this is the hot seat. Time to answer the hard questions.

Come at me bro!

How did you propose? Hidden ring in cake? Cup of Wine? Scavenger Hunt? Portal 2 Custom Level?

There's a park near where I live that has a decent sized hill on it that, when you get to the top of it, you can see most of the city. At night, that means one of those views that you get both a fantastic view of the stars above you, and a beautiful look at thousands of lights in the city below you. It's like you've got a starlit sky in both directions.

I proposed up on the top of that hill at midnight after an evening out at a fancy restaurant and enough drinks to make sure that inhibitions were lowered sufficiently to ensure a "yes" answer.

Darthkaiser

I'll start looking for good hills and good booze Any guilty pleasures jim? not only on life but on music? y'know any hidden nicki minaj, lady gaga, william shatner album you hide?

I like peeing in my backyard at night when it's late and dark. Call of the wild sort of thing. Isn't it funny the sort of things you're willing to share online?

*coughs delicately*

Um, in terms of music I have some fairly eclectic tastes. I'm not much into the heavier sort of stuff, death metal and the like, or the twangy sort of stuff like country, but other than that there isn't much that I can't find SOMETHING to like. If you're looking for something that would be "embarrassing" to like and a guy isn't supposed to find cool, well, I guess I DO like the Lady Gaga song Poker Face.

It's funny, once you admit to being a backyard pee-er, admitting to liking one of Lady Gaga's songs just doesn't seem that bad.

Ever considered giving up your mod status and becoming a regular user again?

Yes, fairly frequently actually.

I came pretty close to doing so when Gabu left. Of all the mods on the site, I always admired him the most for a variety of reasons that I'm not going to go intoright now. I also suspect he's the person who got me the job in the first place given that I never posted publicly before becoming a mod and spend all my time in a union we shared together, posting blogs and responding to other peoples' blogs.

Like everyone else here, I don't always agree 100% with the direction that the site takes. There are certain things that I dislike. I REALLY dislike the moving of the Soapbox off of the main page. Not a big fan of it being replaced with advertising for used games. Yuck. I've been pretty patient on this one and I think I'm going to badger Jody a little more insistently when she gets back from her break to get some traction/movement on that item.

But more to the point, I sometimes wonder if I am a better regular user than a forum nanny. When I answered a question earlier about doing user reviews, blogging, soapbox posts, etc. it was kind of in reference to this. How I really got hooked with the site was reading the works of folks like Bozanimal, GabuEx, SYdoggXxX and others. I don't know if I'll ever enjoy the site more than I did during the Monkeys Writing Shakespeare Days. (Not to sound too much like the folks who are always complaining about the "good old days" of Gamespot.) I *CAN* work through the moderation queue if need be, but I think I'm better at other things when it comes to helping the site.

One of the reasons that I like being a mod though is that I enjoy knowing, FOR CERTAIN, that when I want the attention of folks like Jody or the other admins and community manager, I can get it if I push hard enough. I know that they'll listen and take my opinions into account. They won't always agree with me and I may not always get the result that I want, but I do enjoy the ability to know that with regards to this community that I do still like and enjoy, I will always be listened to.

Also, a lot of the people that I really like and respect are on the mod team. For better or worse, a lot of my friends on the site are now. They're a smart, good intentioned bunch for the most part. The day I stop believing that they really are doing the best they can for this site and really don't care about trying to make it better, basically the day I believe what the team often gets criticized for (that we're all a bunch of power hungry morons) is the day that I WOULD quit and go back to being a normal user. (At best) Or follow Gabu's lead and leave.

What do you think of Alan Rickman as an actor? And what is your favorite TV show involving a pilot?

I like Alan, though occassionally think he's the same guy in pretty much everything he does with minor tweaking. He either selects, or is selected, for very consistent roles. If you want to talk versatility, check out Edward Norton. Still, Alan is always entertaining and consistently brings the goods.

As for favorite TV show involving a pilot, are we talking about the people who fly airplanes or TV shows that have a first episode? Pretty much all TV shows have the latter.

Favorite user?

Assuming that I can't choose mods, thus ruling out ChiliDragon, probably a few of the folks that I was tight with BEFORE becoming a mod like raven28256, yeah_write, s_h_a_d_o, Bozanimal etc.

Favorite ice cream flavor?

Don't eat ice cream often enough to have one.

Favorite Movie?

Going to go with The Godfather.

Do you like Mudkipz?

I might if I knew what it was.

what's your favorite shannara book

Gun to my head? Probably Elfstones. Answer might change if I'm allowed to include the series that includes Running with the Demon even though several books in the series don't include "Shannara" in the title.

What's the story with Stitch with a lightsaber as your avatar? (Really cool, BTW.)

I....shamelessly stole it from the internet when I found it browsing around one day. Lilo and Stitch is my favorite non-adult movie. (Note: I said non-adult, not non-porno. There's a difference you perverts!)

Original Star Wars trilogy is one of my favorite non-cartoon movies. That...and the fact that I think Stitch is not a bad representation of my own psyche at times, and I decided that I'd never find an avatar that I liked more.

Plus...dude...Jedi Stitch!

Hallenbeck77

I have had that same question for months - I don't recall when Stitch became a Jedi, but since Luke took over, I am sure they take everyone, right? Do I have to post a question? that's a question - right?

Sure, it qualifies. And frankly, Stitch would be the most badass Jedi in the universe, even if he was ocassionally tempted by the Dark Side.

Yes you have confirmed my views of Alan Rickman

TV shows that have a first episode

Favorite TV show with a pilot changes over the years. Current favorite is Dexter. Past favorites have included House M.D., Scrubs, Chuck, the Sopranos and...Highlander.

What's your favourite kinda beer?

Not really a beer sort of guy. I suppose if I had to pick, probably something like a Fat Tire, Blue Moon, or Sam Adams.

Strongest alcohol containing drink you have ever tried?

Hmm. Maybe Everclear or Bacardi 181 or something like that.

Did my previous question sound like it was coming from some bureaucrat?

Only if bereaucrat's now sound like frat boys!

Have a fetish for something?

Several, but nothing I can reveal without consulting with Chili first!

Have I asked enough questions?

Depends on if you're out of questions or not I guess!

You answer quickly :o
How strong was the Everclear or Bacardi 181?

Everclear is approximately 190 proof, or 95% alcohol. Bacardi 181 is 181 proof, or 90.5% alcohol.

Do you play Dark Souls?

Does a bear s*** in the woods?!

Any city from a game you would like to live in?

Absolutely! Cities like New Orleans, Las Vegas and New York are AWESOME.(Cities that get used in video games over and over again.)

Which city would you least like to live in, coming from the gaming world?

Whatever that hell hole city in Africa from Resident Evil 5 was.

Why is that?

I'm a big fan of indoor plumbing. And not having tentacle creatures try to suck off my face or rape my woman.

jim, why am I posting this? :D

But seriously, what was the worst thing you ever did in school?

Worst as in the thing that I got in the most trouble for or worst in terms of the absolute dumbest thing that I ever did?

sherman-tank1

Eh, both would be pretty nice to see.

You're in luck, they're both a part of the same idiotic story.

In eigth grade I broke my hand by punching a wall as hard as I could on a dare in a misguided effort to prove how manly I was. As a continuation of that misguided effort, I...um...didn't tell anyone.

As it turns out someone who had a beef with me chose two days later to pick a fight with me in the drama room supply closet. After punching him a couple of times with the already broken hand, I ended up REALLY messing it up. And, er, getting myself suspended.

Moral of the Story: As dumb as some of you people appear to me now, I remain humble because I was dumber than a lot of you are now back when I was your age.

What's the thing that you love most about your wife?

She accepts and loves me for who I am and isn't always trying to change me into somebody else.

What came first, the chicken or the egg? The answer depends upon facts not yet introduced in the record: namely, which one was the male and which was the female?

Whats your favorite meal (home cooked and restaurant)?I love steamed clams in wine sauce or with melted butter to dip into, but really, any large chunk of well cooked meat and I'm in heaven. Prime rib, steaks, turkey, chicken, ham...I'm a carnivore.

What's your favorite season and why? Summer. More eye candy.

Would you support Boise State joining the Big East for football only and why?

I would support Boise State joining the Big East for football only for a number of reasons:

1. The current MWC TV contract pays each member team $1.3M per year for all sports. It runs until 2016. The current Big East TV contract for football only pays $3.1M per year for just football alone. It is up for renegotiation in 2013 and, based on what the other AQ conferences got, and assuming that the Big East as the weakest of the AQ conferences gets a bit less than that, it is not at all unreasonable to assume that the NEW Big East contract will pay each football only member conservatively $12M per year.

Hard to say no to ten times the money when your school is trying to do things like stadium expansion, improving it's academic profile and other items.

2. Improved competition. The Big East, as it has been proposed, would actually be ahead of the ACC in two out of the three BCS AQ criteria and just behind them in the third. It would be light years ahead of the MWC in terms of overall top-to-bottom strength, and it would also have no true bottom feeder teams like New Mexico, UNLV, etc.

3. More money when Boise State makes BCS bowls. The AQ conferences get 80% of the revenue from the BCS bowls. This comes to about $20M for an AQ team going to a BCS bowl and winning. Even when Boise State has gone to BCS bowls and won as a non-AQ, they're only paid about $5M.

4. Improved recruiting makes sustained success easier to maintain.

5. Improved athletic budget makes sustained success easier to maintain

6. Ability to pay Coach Petersen more because of the extra money the school makes, thus making it easier to fight off people trying to take him away.

7. The proposed Big East is going to set up an Eastern and a Western division, so travel difficulties will not be as bad as advertised. Boise State will also have the ability to play games in ALL THREE of the big recruiting states (Texas, California and Florida) due to being able to schedule traditional rival Fresno State OOC.

8. On a personal note, less time I have to spend listening to people whine about how Boise State WANTS to play a bunch of cupcake teams and should just "join a real conference". (Because switching conferences doesn't at all require those conferences to INVITE you. You just have to close your eyes and WISH REAL HARD for it to happen.)

Bane_09

When it comes to versatility, it's hard to top Gary Oldman. From his portrayal of Commisioner Gordon, to his character work in the 5th Element, Air Force One, True Romance, the Harry Potter movies, the Unborn, Red Riding Hood, Dracula, the Scarlet Letter... this guy is an unbelievable chameleon.

Anyway, I don't think we're putting enough heat on Jim. Let's try this on for size

scenario: you somehow forgot your anniversary.
query: just how do you salvage the situation and hopefully keep the flesh on on your bones? ;) :P

Totally got this covered.

I keep a hidden box of special little presents for emergencies like this and I have a reminder on my Outlook calender in any event. So, in a pinch, I raid my box for emergency presents and the Outlook calendar that I use for work gives me enough notice to scramble for a dinner reservation and call a florist delivery to send flowers to my wife at work, which earns me DOUBLE brownie points because then my wife gets to smile her sweet little smile at jealous female coworkers.

And in an absolute worst case scenario that I can't get a decent reservation at a great restauraunt on short notice, I work from home so I can ditch work and get all the stuff together to do something like spread a bunch of flower petals and lit candles around the house and have a special home cooked meal with soft music waiting for her when she gets home.

It pays to be prepared for rainy days, and if I ever didn't have a backup plan for THAT particular rainy day the resulting flood would make the one Noah had to go through look like a minor spring shower by comparison.

How did you discover Gamespot?

Incorrectly typed porn search. Was searching for hot pictures of Mona Sax from the Max Payne games and...wa-la! Here I be years later.

In all honesty, I was looking around for well written game reviews of Knights of the Old Republic and found the one Greg Kasavin wrote and was hooked.

Is it true you are both a scholar and a gentleman? Unfortuantely no on both counts.

What is your position on the great monacle debate?I am STRONGLY IN FAVOR of the monacle, but, in all honesty, bringing back the monoacle does NOT GO FAR ENOUGH! We need to bring back the cape as well. And those sexy canes that everyone used to have. And the villain-staches from those old movies.

Cake or Pie? Carefull. THEYRE LISTENING. o_0 It doesn't matter. They're both a lie. IT'S ALL a grand conspiracy masking a multinational corporate takeover. Throw off your brainwashing people!

Giraffes, kinda hawt?Well...to be fair, I have always been a fan of long, elegant looking necks and bare shoulders. So...a little bit I suppose.

mirtie? Not following on this one?

True or false: BEEEEEEER! False. RUM!

Never knew that about him.

Not presently in college. Graduated with my undergrad in 2001 and then went immediately into my post-grad MBA work. Actually a little proud of that as you typically need either lots of workplace experience or very good standardized test scores/grades to go directly into an MBA program.

Got my MBA in 2003 and have worked for a Fortune 100 company since 2005.

MAYBE if you asked the right QUESTIONS you would get better ANSWERS like this

NOCOOLNAMEJIM, if that is you real name, what is your favorite place? If you mean place away from home, I'm going with Las Vegas. It's impossible to be bored there. Too much to do. Not a city that I want to live, but I love taking vacations there. If you mean at home, I'm going with the man-cave I constructed for myself.

when you think of the word/concept vacation, what comes to mind? Not having to put up with idiots for a few precious days of freedom. Oh, and lots of gambling, drinking and oggling of scantily dressed women. (I enjoy vacations to warm beach-like destinations as well as Vegas.)

when you think of your wife in 30 years, what comes to mind?I generally don't think that far ahead...um...saggy breasts? (Going to pay for THAT one later I suspect.)

what is most relaxing to you?A brand new game, several uninterupted hours to play it, and my wife reading in the same room with me while occassionally bringing me new rum and cokes.

actually sitting and doing something with your mind (like vidya) or going outside and doing some sort of manual labor? Both actually. I may have mentioned before that I have certain obsessive tendencies. It's something my parents noticed when I was a kid and tried to modify a little bit. They stressed the importance of being a "balanced" person. In other words, don't just focus on one particular of yourself and neglect others. Like video games? No problem. Try and like basketball as well. Enjoy poker with your friends? Nothing wrong with that, but also enjoy quiet time to yourself and reflection.

Are you the type of person who eats cream cheese because it's delicious or the type to neglect it because it adds calories?

Delicious. My diet is a horrible one at times. Bad habits in that area. I'm one of those who had a skyhigh metabolism combined with playing several sports when I was younger and never really got into the habits of watching what I ate because it never mattered.

I'm a bit better about paying attention to those things now that I'm a decrepit old fogie, but I still have a tendency to eat pretty much whatever I want at any given time when I open the fridge. Makes a bit more important to have good things in the fridge.

It's perfectly fine in mashed potatoes. Also we need one of these threads for you, if you're going to be answering all our questions. >=(
