don't like the star wars prequels.
can't speak for the hobbits as i've never seen it and most likely never will. doesn't interest me
Aside from some good performances I didn't like the Hobbit series at all.
The prequels had a few entertaining moments.
I liked both, strangely enough.
When it comes to being faithful to the books, I pick the Star Wars prequels. They're obviously more accurate because the movies came first and the books were made around them. The Tolkien books came first and The Hobbit movies were way off just like the LotR movies.
Both sucked, but at least Star Wars wasn't purposefully drawn out in order to make money. George had a story to tell, he just told it poorly.
If you go into the Star Wars prequels expecting to cringe, they're actually not that bad. I mean really, it's just Hayden; he is the worst part, even Jar Jar is tolerable if you pretend Hayden does not exist (Jar Jar is especially tolerable if you watch 1-3 in the context of Jar Jar being an undercover Sith). And Episode 3 was simply epic, maybe not epic, fine fine fine I can hear you all going "WHAT?!" but it was pretty awesome seeing Anakin --> Vader, and his acting got tolerable by then. At least no bitching about sand...
The LOTR prequels, I don't know about them. They were odd, something about them felt off. For starters, the Hobbit was a really thin book. I read it in one day, seriously it's like 100 or so pages; how they turned it into 12 hours of movie, I do not know. I think he read the book like 100 times, but then didn't read for like ten years before making the movie and then got reeeeeeeeeeeeally drunk and was just doing it from memory so he was like "No no no I remember this part, guys, the ogres were like 'raaaaaaawr' *hic* so then the haw-bits be like 'eeeeeeeeeeeh' and this scene is super important so it has to last 30 minutes! ACTION!"
Neither was great, but the star wars prequels were still better than the hobbit. The hobbit was way too drawn out and PeterJackson seems to have too big of a hard on for elf battles.
The Hobbit didn't have enough story to make three movies, but was still well acted, well made, and entertaining most of the time.
The Star Wars prequels had a good story to tell, but were poorly acted, badly made, and usually boring.
I guess I'll vote Hobbit.
