All I can say is thank god for the British Empire. I loved how they forced everyone from every country they conquered to learn English. It's great knowing that almost every country on earth has a little bit of English spoken in it. I go to India they speak English, I go to China they speak a little bit of English, I go to Australia they speak English, I go to Canada they speak English, I can even head over to random countries and they probably speak English. Thank the old British government for taking over a good sized country in just about every continent except S. America.

Point of this thread, we should all thank the Great British Empire for spreading the English language all over the world!

Well they could also made the English language international that will force every country to learn it instead of going around killing billions across the world at that time.

I agree to your idea of spreading English globally but as an American of the original colonies I have to say: "I FART in your general DIREC-TION!"

Take that for trying to tax us!

Technologically, yes, I suppose the colonies would be indebted to you. Also, in some cases you unified a divided nation(especially during the revolutions). Besides that, though, it was a huge drain on resources, and also, the British empire used 'divide and conquer' methods, encouraging communalism and bigotry(The seperation with Pakistan is a good example of this).

All in all, I suppose it's a mixed thing. Quite a few of these places would still be approximating Africa in terms of development f it wasnt for these, but still, that was a huge chunk of our natural resources you took with you.

Hey British Empire,

You let India and Hong Kong go.

Canada, Australia, and South Africa are kind of their own countries now, too.

When will you let Scotland free?

You cant deny that world trade and growth has been exponentially improved thanks to a language that people from every country speak.

If he's speaking on a personal note, however, I reluctantly agree.

I dont think so, our economy was struggling due to failed attempts at forming colonies in North America so it was the best choice to make. Then together as Britain we conquered 1/4 of the planet.

Scotland IS Great Britain. The word British Empire comes from the phrase The British Isles.

And FYI the conflict between Scotland and England is now arguably obsolete as Picts (a racial group, original inhabitants of "Albion") are now widespread thanks to cross migration and interracial mating between the Normans and Viking Celts.

Well, it's part of Great Britain. And they don't want to be. Apparently the Scots don't like getting more tax per head than anyone else in Britain. Or something.
