He literally should get paid like 10 million dollars for compinsation. I mean they robbed 30 years of his life for no reason.
That guy is going to get alot of money.. or did the limit on damages for wrongful incarceration pass?
Espada12
The article says he could be getting $2.4 million.
Crazy how they were going to let him go years ago if he just admitted to being a sex offender and he still denied it. I'm not sure I would've had the ability to keep denying it anymore.
Such a sadness.HlHlHlThis pretty much sums up my thoughts towards this. That's 30 years of an innocent man's life.
:( A completely innocent man spent 30 years in jail. He did nothing. That's 30 years of his life, gone, and he can't get them back. That is just depressing. Poor guy.
Against jail in general. I think we should use the honor system. This sort of thing is one of the best arguments against capital punishment.

Yup. I don't understand how people think it's okay for a room full of HUMAN BEINGS to decide whether someone can live or die.
This reminds me of a prison video I watched (think it was Louisiana) were an inmate kept pleading his innocence, and appealing the ruling of a rape charge.
He even found some evidence to support his claim. A medical investigation made during the case, that found the alleged raped girl was still a virgin.
EVEN WITH THAT HIS APPEAL WAS REJECTED!
That equates to $80,000 of every year spent in prison. Not bad. At least he can retire now since $2.4m is a lot of money.he can only get $2.4m lol wtf he should get $20m at least i mean 30 years is long time brah

It's a shame this type of situation happens within our justice system. I will continue to fight against injustices like this and particularly capital punishment. It sickens me.

You mean against punishment in general right?
No. Capital punishment.
Death is final. It can't be "taken back". A person who is merely incarcerated for a long time can be released and compensated.

Lawl, how do you compensate someone for all the years they missed on living their life??
[QUOTE="Harisemo"]Or he could get 80 grand a year. 80k times the years he was imprisoned (30) equals 2.4m...he can only get $2.4m lol wtf he should get $20m at least i mean 30 years is long time brah

It's easier to do than compensating a dead guy, that much I think can't be argued.[QUOTE="GreySeal9"]

Is there any particular reason why you're being thickheaded about this?
Sure, they can't be truly compensated, but they can get their liberty back, and maybe enough money to live out the rest of their years in comfort.
Death, on the other hand, is final.

These types of situations are extremely unfortunate, but I will still always support capital punishment. Sure the modern justice system isn't perfect(and I don't think it ever will be), but more often than not, it's pretty reliable. Let's face it, innocent men being put in prison is rare. Sure, even one is too many, but I will always be in favor of laying a murderer and rapist to rest over paying for him to live the rest of his life in prison.
"Under Texas compensation laws for the wrongly imprisoned, Dupree is eligible for $80,000 for each year he was behind bars, plus a lifetime annuity. He could receive $2.4 million in a lump sum that is not subject to federal income tax."
Well atleast he doesn't have to work a day in his life, ever again:D.

Did you know that executing criminals is actually more expensive than keeping them in prison for life?
I'm sure he did something bad nobody knows about hehe:( A completely innocent man spent 30 years in jail. He did nothing. That's 30 years of his life, gone, and he can't get them back. That is just depressing. Poor guy.

Apparently not...otherwise I believe he/she would retract that comment.

Well, we'll see.
But I wouldn't blame him for not knowing. It's a commonly held belief that the death penalty is cheaper and I can see why people think it even if they are wrong.

I don't care how many people someone rapes. I can never recall someone being executed for that crime. Plus capital punishment is far too harsh a punishment for rape.Think that's depressing? Neither is as depressing as this.:(
If there's a saving grace to this, at least he;s only 51 years old . He can still have a good life ahead of him.
Don't get me wrong. What happened to him is horrible beyond anything we can comprehend. But at least he's still young enough to enjoy the rest of his life.
51 years old and about to be a millionaire, not too bad IMO :P He can do whatever the **** he wants and be well off for the rest of his life.If there's a saving grace to this, at least he;s only 51 years old . He can still have a good life ahead of him.

It could've been worse. You can't redeem an innocent man who's gone through Capital Punishment.
But I feel for him. I hope he didn't get abused in prison or anything of the sort.
