SOURCE

So says a new study done by Pew Research Center. If NPR talks about it, it can't be wrong? Right?!

What does OT think?

Interesting. As a lawful gun owner I strongly support both gun rights and gun control. The fact that some people see those things as inherently opposed to each other is a real issue.

I couldn't find it on the original survey, but I'd like to know what they defined gun control as.

Oh and before people lose their shit: I do support reasonable gun control measures: Background checks and not allowing certain people to own extremely dangerous weapon systems.

This is excellent! We need to take further steps and make it so everyone can openly carry whatever guns they like anywhere. Only then will our public officials truly understand the potential consequences of voting against their constituency.

Not really, if you want your representatives to actually represent you as opposed to doing whatever they wish then you gotta make them legitimately uneasy about stepping out of line. Furthermore if we get everyone on board with open carry being a normal thing people will really understand how there is no danger in people simply carrying guns around.

After all the more something happens the more people get used to it being a part of every day life. Sorta like handgun related crimes, it happens far more than assault weapons and thus nobody actually wants to ban them. Is it terrible? Sure, but at least it means that Americans are secure in their second amendment rights when it comes to handguns at the very least.

It's not a normal thing, however. Open carry is for sensationalists. I would rather concealed carry.

I honestly think the shooting at Sandy Hook is what will have been the moment where adults in this country no longer be shaken or waver in their support for standing up for their rights/freedoms given by the constitution.

Can someone enlighten me on why Americans care so much about gun rights? Not trying to start anything, I'm genuinely curious why so many Americans feel the need to carry a weapon. I've never felt the need the own one and I don't know anybody who does.

Why should something be banned for use if I'm not doing anything wrong with it? What's the point of living in a free society if you can't do the things you enjoy that don't hurt anybody else?

I was talking more about open/concealed carrying. Not hunting or for the shooting range. Unless you enjoy carrying them for some reason.

I'm not a proponent of open-carry. I think it's dangerous and it's basically asking for trouble. Concealed carry, though, I'm okay with. I think if you've proven yourself to be a responsible citizen then you should be able to carry a concealed firearm for whatever reason. By responsible citizen I mean those without a violent criminal history, and those who have gone through extensive classes (or who have had proper training from the military or police) on how to handle and use firearms safely.

I don't believe every Joe Shmoe should be able to get a concealed-carry permit. That's also asking for trouble.

The vast majority of gun owners aren't obsessed with guns. But again, why should something be banned when the vast majority of gun owners don't do anything wrong?

The majority probably aren't doing anything wrong, I'm worried about the minority who are. A small amount of people using guns can still cause significant damage. We're one of the most developed countries in the world, and we still can't see the link that more guns equals more gun related deaths.

Except violent crime has been going down for the past 33 years. FBI Uniform Crime Report.

So you would punish the vast majority of gun owners who aren't doing anything wrong, just because a minority are? That's some awesome logic.

I believe in the right to own guns, however I do think there needs to be many - stronger - changes to gun control...but oddly enough, the result of which I think should be more freedom's for those that pass the new gun control changes.

No. Because other people have the right to determine whether or not you, another private citizen, have permission to carry a weapon onto their property.

Except even in Switzerland, the people are growing more and more anti-gun by the year.

Everyone in Switzerland has a gun to defend themselves from foreigners, not because they're afraid of each other.

The population of Switzerland is much lower then the United States, and the poverty levels are much smaller as well.

dumb comparison.

Air, Storm Marine thought you got banned HeHe. It was just Sniper4321 imitaing you who got banned lol.

On topic, i support gun right for protection but should be in check so civilians don't misuse em :)

No, Storm_Marine was hoping that I got banned, not the Sniper alt. Who probably actually isn't Sniper.

Oh

I'm getting big black dick picture messages from fake airshoker ( sniper4321) all night, don't see any report spam option too :(

This is excellent! We need to take further steps and make it so everyone can openly carry whatever guns they like anywhere. Only then will our public officials truly understand the potential consequences of voting against their constituency.

Meh, that's going a little too far, bro.

Lol, the US already has highest gun related murders in the western world, did you want to be no 1 in the world full stop?
