there's a none option too

In terms of universes, Star Wars. In terms of movies, the newer Star Trek movies. In terms of books, Star Wars.
In terms of universes, Star Wars. airshockerThis is how I'm going to approach the topic, since I'm too lazy to break down both franchises and assess which one has the overall better content. But I prefer Star Wars. Jedi and Sith are a hell of a lot cooler than Starfleet officers, and light sabers are way cooler than phasers.

I can understand why the Star Wars universe itself is better: a little more diverse and gritter, but in terms of the shows and movies as a whole, Trek still wins by a lot.
The writing and acting in Star Wars is, at best, borderline awful.
My one beef with Star Trek is we never really got good exposure to the "universe" as most of the episodes took place on ships/stations.I can understand why the Star Wars universe itself is better: a little more diverse and gritter, but in terms of the shows and movies as a whole, Trek still wins by a lot.

Good point, and I never had enough interest to get into the Expanded Universe.

I'd like a star trek series that was more grounded or actually on the plannets.Hard to say.....I like the tech and powers of Star Wars more, nothing is more cool than a Jedi kicking ass, and Han Solo is the man. But I feel that Star Trek is more "deeper" and it portrays issues that we can relate to today just in a scientific setting. And speaking of science, Star Trek is actually more scientifically accurate in many of it's things than Star Wars.
Overall I would pick Star Trek I suppose. But I like them both, and the last Star Trek movie was awesome!
I enjoy them both, but I prefer Star Trek. Ignoring the books, Star Wars rarely asks the viewer to do any sort of thinking. Jedi are good; Sith are bad. megamThey are definitely completely different. Star Trek is much more about real world issues that we experience today in our every day lives. Star Wars is more about being fun and action packed.
Trek by far. When you really look at the Star Wars movies they are all really bad. Now the universe Lucas created was amazing, filled with great lore and potential. But the characters, events and dialogue of the actual movies sucked. The best Star Wars products are the ones from other creators who took the Star Wars license/mythology and ran with it.Diablo-B
You didn't like 4,5, and 6 at all?
has to be startrek for me. i see star wars as one giant fairy-tale, a very cool one but it barely goes any further as being entertainment. star trek is equally entertaining but has a lot more depth and relevance in encouraging viewers to think about a wide range of issues from identity and purpose of mankind to its future. the next generation in particular i consider some of the most brilliant tv ever made. besides, they make it so hard to still like star wars after all the stunts they pulled in the name of milking the franchise.
I forget what the difference between trekker and trekkie is.Allicrombie
A Trekker is just a fan of the shows, a trekkie likes to dress up as the characters from the shows and speak klingon. Iam a trekker.

really? huh, interesting. I went to a convention like 10 years ago and the amount of trekkies there was surprising. Going to have to strongly disagree with that. The last film wasn't even real Star Trek, much less better than Star Wars. I'm not a fan of the previous trek films, so that maybe why I don't mind them stepping all over it. Thought it was magnificent & am really looking forward to the next one.[QUOTE="Justinps2hero"]...but I must say, the 2009 jj film is far superior than anything Lucas has done.Pirate700
Star Wars, hands down.
But with the classic that is Star Trek:The Wrath of Khan and the newest films being so good, it wouldn't surprise me if somewhere down the line I switched over to prefering Star Trek. I guess the new Star Wars films really have to leave their mark inside my mind

Overall I hate them both, Star Wars in my view had one decent entry in six total films...though it did have a bunch of great video games...
Trek, on the other hand, is tedious to watch, has the most obnoxious fans of any media, and is overall terrible.
I wil say this: Had star wars return of the jedi been directed by Lynch, it would have been a significantly better film, and I would have likely enjoyed it.
