Some people got to see early screenings, including some "Top Critics".

Warning - there MAY be some spoilers in the reviews. I have not scanned them all yet.

Thoughts on the early impressions?

Absolutely cannot WAIT to see this movie in Imax!

This is one movie where I do not remotely care about the critic opinions. Everything I have seen from the movie (especially a 9 minute sneak peek during The Hobbit in Imax) has left me super hyped for this movie especially considering how good the first was.

Checked and the original is at a 95% on rottentomatoes which is something that is REALLY hard to live up to, but we shall see if this one can match it!

I like the whole cast except Chris Pine. For some reason he doesn't seem like a good Capt. Kirk. He seems more like a Luke Skywalker type.

I'm sure it's a good enough movie, but as a Star Trek fan, what they're trying to do to it bothers me too much to see it right away. :P

I'm going to see it. I'm likely going to enjoy it. But I'll also likely think it isn't Star Trek.

Why does every villain in most movies have to have a British accent?

But yes, I will still see Star Trek, and I will hopefully enjoy it just like I did for the first one.

Will see day one. Star Trek '09 may not have been a traditional Star Trek movie, but most people forget how bad some of those were (Motion Picture, Final Frontier, Nemesis...). I thought Trek '09 was better than any of the others bar Wrath of Khan and First Contact.

The first 7 minutes were really cool, gotta see that during the midnight premier of the Hobbit. I personally cannot wait, it looks good.

I wonder if this film will have any social commentary at all? Star Trek is kinda known for that and the previous flick had none whatsoever - even though it was thoroughly entertaining.

I honestly think its a very minor part though. The only other think I can think of is John Harrison is a terrorist and maybe w/e his intentions are.

Managed to see this movie last week when it was released, and I really loved it. I'd recommend it to anyone whose perhaps just intriqued to watch it and those that are just as excited as I was to see it, it was a good film to watch. I don't usually see movies at the cinema more than once much (although I think I saw Star Trek 09 twice now that I mention it), but I'd definitley see this again.

Definitley can't wait to see what's in line for part 3 & Abrams with Star Wars in the future!

The movies were held up simply by the performance of the actors.. If Ironman 3 didn't have Robert Downey, it would have blown..

yea i just saw it today. i was never a trekkie growing up but the 2009 film got me watching the original 67 series plus next generation. i absolutley loved into darkness and despite the hardcore trekkies bitching i thought cumberbatch ( who i dont even know of) was fantastic. he has a very bright future ahead of him because man i had goosebumps when he was on screen

I saw it this afternoon too.

Great movie - HOWEVER, I highly recommend everyone go watch Star Trek 2, the Wrath of Khan before seeing Into Darkness, as they tie in to one another.

And I would also check out an episode of the original Star Trek series, Space Seed - that's where the whole storyline begins.

I agree with everything here except the part about Nemesis, which IMO is better than a lot of people give it credit for. Sure it's nowhere near as good as the excellent Wrath of Khan and First Contact but I think it is infinitely better than Motion Picture, Final Frontier, and especially Insurrection, now that is the truly terrible next gen movie.

Plus I think the battle between the Enterprise-E and the Scimitar in Nemesis is one of the top 3 space battles out of all the films.

agreed. the hardcore trekkies are trying to say ricardos take on the role couldnt be beat. in my personally opinion i think he and cumberbatch did the charachter equaly thus in the end gave a amazing charachter period. thats how impressed i was with cumberbatch because i never saw sherlock and i went into this thing blind and happy to say i like what he brought to the screen and he has a bright future in hollywood

What a forgettable movie.

Seriously JJ is just not a movie director. He is a TV director. He's not good enough for big block busters. His movies never quite work or feel like they go to the next level, fizzle out and die as they end in predictable safe ways.

What a stupid story this movie had. At one point I was interested.. There was a lot going on towards the middle of the film.. Thinking about star feel conspiracies, is Benedict Cumberbatch good or bad?

And then they say he's Kahn and the movie sucks. I knew everything that was going to happen from there on out. You know he's just gonna be evil, because the only reason to bring back Kahn and not make a new villian is to at some point in the movie have someone scream "KAAAHNNN!".. So any question as to what might happen in the story went out the window.

Also Kirk dying was stupid. That scene, was so bad for so many reasons. Not only was it a total rehash of Star Trek two, but they already TOLD us Kahn has regenerative blood so we know that they are just going to use that to bring Kirk back so wtf was the point of that scene or even killing him when we know the solution to his death before it even friggin happens. There was no tension or drama at any point in this movie, everything was so safe and predictable just like all of Abrahms movies.

Yeah...I didn't think the last Star Trek movie was great or anything. It was just "okay" and it wasn't very memorable. But at least it didn't just feel like a TV episode dragged out for twice the running time. Here's hoping this one will be a little bit better, and then we'll be doing okay.

I didn't enjoy it as much as the last Star Trek film but it was still pretty fun. Probably going to be a while before we see another since J.J. Abrams is doing the next Star Wars film, unless whoever is in charge of producing the next Star Trek film passes it off to another director. Anyhow, seeing it in IMAX 3D felt like a waste. I'd of splurge in a 2D ETX or RPX or IMAX if it was available but it wasn't.

For the first movie I went in expecting a good film and left miserably disappointed.

So this time I'll go in expecting total dog ****. This way I will be able to enjoy the new movie at least a little.

Abrams is almost as bad as Nolan when it comes to directing action sequences. Bland and chaotic. Same goes for the story and visuals. Abrams really proved here that he was never a fan of the show and didn't "get it", which he has admitted time and time again. The result is dumb fun if you feel like wasting a few hours, but it is not a 'Star Trek' film and it is not nearly as good as the first.

Saw it last night in non-3D. It is worlds better than the first, I was never bored for a minute. The action is great, acting is too and the jokes always made me at least smile. I just had a lot of fun seeing it. Great movie, didn't see the villian name twist either.

The theatre I went to was a nice treat. Basically the auditorium is arranged in a way that servers can still serve you food without interrupting the audience. Before the movie started, we were treated with Star Trek fandom and cartoon clips but for some reason, there were no trailers which was a surprise.

Into Darkness was pretty good too. Nothing spectacular but it does get the message through. I may see it again.

Saw it in Imax 3D last night. It was fantastic! A great sequel. It also had a lot of ltl things for trekkies to enjoy. Mentions of things like the 5 year mission and Section 31 were really cool.

better than iron man 3 is what ill say. i understand why hardcore fans may be mad but this is 2013 not 1967 anymore also gene rodenberry wanted such a movie because he stated he wanted to see the start of kirk and spock on how they became who they are

Perhaps that's a good thing. Because I find every other Star Trek movie(except First Contact) to be abysmal.
