New way to chastise :
Russian Roulette for the first kid to interrupt in class.
don't worry, they are blanks...but the kids learn pygathorian theorem faster.

hmm, the people responsible for that is who you want armed?

Keeps them little heavens in check. Don't do that homework? My desert eagle will skin your shoulder.
To prevent school shootings, we need guns in schools. Yep makes sense.

Well that's one more place on Earth that I'm never going to.Moriarity_If you're in a classroom and some maniac with a guns runs in and starts shooting everyone down, are you safer with an armed teacher or an unarmed teacher?

Just because a teacher has a firearm, does not mean that teacher would be able to use it effectively in a stressful situation. :|Can you imagine some bratty little 8th grader getting underneath the skin of some poorly trained teacher who might be unstable (who keeps all of their sanity teaching kids that age?) and puts a bullet in him?

It doesn't mean they wouldn't either.
And you are blaming the teachers for that? They have one of the most difficult jobs any citizen can do, yet they are paid pretty crappy. Perhaps they'd be a lot more moviated to work if they had a bit more to eat. I guarantee you that student performance rating will go slightly up.[QUOTE="Riverwolf007"]

Actually American teachers are paid well. The problem has to do more with funding, lack of resources, and inability for families to transfer their students from a failing school to a better school without having to be forced to move.
That said, this whole thing is an overreaction. Schools are some of the safest places for students to be and these shootings are just outliers. Sh*t happens and that's what life is unfortunately. We're bound to the randomness of the universe.
[QUOTE="lo_Pine"]Mostly white populated state. This shouldn't be a problem.worlock77
What exactly is this suppose to mean?
The irony is that most serial killers or mass murderers from the US are white. The only thing that scares me about this is students stealing the guns. I can't find an instance where a teacher shot students in the classroom even though in most schools there is nothing (other than laws) preventing a teacher from bringing in a gun to schools. I don't see why this would change that.
This law very well could have prevented/minimized previous school shootings.
Huh.. Maybe kids won't act out so much during school now? Win win?00-Riddick-00Yeah, CCA would love it.
Anyone who has a gun in a setting like that should be required to go through a proper training course, not just shooting the gun but a type of obstacle course designed to help them handle a situation that could come up to ensure they don't shoot an innocent. I doubt they have the training.
this is f*cking stupid. they must have been thinking, "hmmm, we need a way to prevent school shootings.. i got it! let's put more guns in schools! that should work."
i'm sure there's no way this could go wrong. i'm sure a rebellious student would NEVER try to take the gun from the teacher.....
Ridiculous. Students could easily get their hands on weapons if allowed in the classroom. This will not end well.Razor-LazorIf it is really that easy to disarm someone and take the weapon for yourself, then why didn't anyone do that to the Sandy Hook shooter?
How is a student going to steal anything from a teacher who has a gun?this is f*cking stupid. they must have been thinking, "hmmm, we need a way to prevent school shootings.. i got it! let's put more guns in schools! that should work."

That was one incident involving one shooter with a mentally unstable person holding a weapon and shooting anything in his path. I imagine that the teachers in South Dakota will not even be holding the weapon at all times but instead keep it in a locked drawer or something similar that kids could potentially break into. Plus, if the teachers were holding the weapon and had it on them, they are unprepared, untrained, and likely unwilling to shoot at the first sign of danger. Disarming them would be simple. Now multiply that situation by hundreds of schools and maybe you'll see the difference.
[QUOTE="Ring_of_fire"]Stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid. The only people that should be allowed to carry a gun in school is security.thegergWhat makes you think that security guards would be any better with guns than teachers? While I'm not necessarily advocating security guards in school, either, I'm going to state the obvious when I say that security guards' main job is to know how to operate a gun. They are well-trained and well-educated in it. Teachers are not.

The training to become an armed security guard isn't intensive. I think the state with the strictest policy on armed security is New York and even they only require a 48 hour course. Remember that is the strictest, some states have four hour courses required to get an armed guard permit.
Again, people here are wildly overestimating the training required to be able to defend yourself with a firearm.

Whoever said anything about disarming the teacher? You think students won't look in a teacher's desk while they're out of the room?

Needs moar guns!MgamerBDPlease explain how you stop a killer with a gun if you don't have a gun. I realize you don't have an answer to this, but you seem so smug that I just want to make you look stupid.

Michael Carneal, the Heath high school (West Paducah, Ky) shooter was stopped without a gun. Yeah I realize that might be a unique case, but still it has been done.
