[QUOTE="jimmyjammer69"]Their lead vocalist hanged himself.jimmyjammer69

Did they get anew one? Bands are never the same without the same vocalist.

I think they just mutated into New Order, which, as far as I'm concerned, wasn't a bad thing. I'm not keen on all their stuff but Crystal is a great song.

Thanks for the link, I like them. Listen to "as tall as lions" or maybe "circa survive" If your interested in alt rock/ kinda emo, but not really.

haha, nice poll. Can't see any of these bands being hugely popular in off-topic though.

I voted for the Fall. :D

I picked joy division because it sounds fun.

TheAcejoel99

They are the exact opposite of fun, their name alone comes from a very dark area.

My bad, Im ignorant on the band or really any of the bands you named.

Dont worry about it, people have made the same mistake before:P

No love for The Levellers? Ah well I like them, maybe I should have put up a different band like Elbow, Minutemen, Jesus and Mary Chain, or Puressence

Forever_Changes

you could alter it slightly to a "best mancunian band" poll with bands like Joy Division, The Fall, The Smiths, The Stone Roses, Puressence, The Chameleons, Buzzcocks, Magazine etc etc. At least that way the line-up would be related.:P

Forgot about the Chameleons, they are good. Did you hear about the new Puressence album this year? Comes in september I think. Do you like Elbow? They are from that same area.

Nowt wrong with either of those tracks, I was just never a massive fan. They collaborated with the Chemical Brothers on Out Of Control, though, and I loved that.

i didn't know that actually! thanks, I'll look into it. I didn't get around to getting their 07 one. Would you recommend it?

and yes, Elbow are a good band. I used to really be into them around the point of Leaders of the Free World but The Seldom Seen Kid didn't grab me like their other releases - which is strange given that that it's their most critically acclaimed album. Good band though.

I reckon you should've put Echo & The Bunnymen up there, but I might go with Jow Division, but Manic Street Preachers follows.

[QUOTE="FFCYAN"]Plenty of GS users are "American". Does that mean we are not cool because we don't know them or that we are not cool because we are "American"? Or both?:P

Cherokee_Jack

Maybe if you stopped eating all those Burgers and listening to your hippity hop and your elvis presley like you pesky American youngsters do you would get off your butt and find out about these bands:evil:

It's not that they're Americans, it's just that they're metalheads. ;)

Great list, and Im actually surprised so many people have said "never heard of them" as they are all pretty well known. Expand your taste people :P

But Joy Division takes the cake, how can i not pick one of the for-fathers of alternative music.

This has nothing at all to do with Billy Corgan playing in New Order, has it?

That fact that you bring it up intrigues me as that is a rare little fact about him. :P

And no that has nothing to do with it, as Joy Division truly were one of the original alternative bands (next to R.E.M, The Smiths...ect)

Hehe, yeah... I don't remember where I picked that one up. It's kind of weird, though, - I'd always assumed it was their time together which influenced the whole Machina vibe, but now I look at the time line, Machina came first :?. Whoever's to thank, it's an incredible album.

Joy Division obviously. :P

Maybe Wire instead of Levellers?

But darn it all to heck if anytime anybody mentions the Psych Furs that my head doesn't asplode with the vast amount of catchy songs they have.

Yea Machina is a VERY underrated album, it came out in 2000' but he toured with New order 2001 if im not mistaken, or 2002...

Anywho I dont here any New Order in Machina (well maybe in a few songs, like Raindrops +sunshowers, or I of the Mourning) But its an absolute fantastic album, and its a shame they didn't release Machina ll. They compliment eachother so well.
