http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090728/ap_on_re_us/us_obama_birth_certificate

HONOLULU - State officials in Hawaii on Monday said they have once again checked and confirmed that President Barack Obama was born in Hawaii and is a natural-born American citizen, and therefore meets a key constitutional requirement for being president.

They hoped to stem a recent surge in the number of inquiries about Obama's birthplace.

"I ... have seen the original vital records maintained on file by the Hawaii State Department of Health verifying Barack Hussein Obama was born in Hawaii and is a natural-born American citizen," Health Director Dr. Chiyome Fukino said in a brief statement. "I have nothing further to add to this statement or my original statement issued in October 2008 over eight months ago."

So-called "birthers" - who claim Obama is ineligible to be president because, they argue, he was actually born outside the United States - have grown more vocal recently on blogs and television news shows.

Fukino issued a similar press release Oct. 31, but was prompted to speak out again because of the renewed attention on Obama's beginnings. Hawaii's Health Department has been flooded in recent weeks with questions from individuals and several national TV news networks asking for proof that Obama was indeed born in Hawaii.

"They just keep asking over and over and over again," Health Department spokeswoman Janice Okubo said.

The Constitution states that a person must be a "natural-born citizen" to be eligible for the presidency. Birthers contend that Obama's birth certificate is a fake, and many say he was actually born in Kenya, his father's homeland. They've challenged his citizenship in court.

One widely circulated YouTube clip of a town hall meeting showed a Republican congressman getting booed for saying Obama is a citizen. Talk show host Rush Limbaugh and CNN's Lou Dobbs have also raised the issue, and 10 Republican members of Congress co-sponsored a bill that would require future presidential candidates to provide a copy of their original birth certificate.

However, it appears Congress has moved on and has accepted Obama's island birthplace. The U.S. House on Monday unanimously approved a resolution recognizing and celebrating the 50th anniversary of Hawaii becoming the 50th state. A clause was included that reads: "Whereas the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama, was born in Hawaii on August 4, 1961."

State law bars the release of a certified birth certificate to anyone who does not have a tangible interest.

However, Obama's birth certificate along with birth notices from the two Honolulu newspapers were brought forward even before he took office. But that's done nothing to shake the belief by many Obama critics that the president was born abroad.

He's the president, no one is going to get him impeached for being born in Hawaii.

No proof is enough for the anti-obama extremists.

they aren't making these claims because they are intelligent, worried people looking for answers. They are looney toons. Their candidate lost, and they can't accept it.

At this point the only way to resolve this situation is to provide visible truth. I am still a beiliever that he was born in Kenya, thus making him ineligible to be president. If I was shown some reliable physical evidence I very well would likely change my belief but they are doing a damn good job at keeping the information away from the people. I think it's everyones right to know being that the guy is our president.

BTW, I'm not a looney, I just have zero faith in anything this government says. Lies are the game of the day...

As press secretary Robert Gibbs said when asked if anything will put this to rest: "No...because anyone with $15 bucks can get an Internet connection and go online and say anything they want" (Paraphrased.) Personally, I think that DougJ from Balloon Juice got it right: "Birther opposition will be used as a sign of credibility by wingnuts when the next whacky rumor crops up, e.g. "I'm not a conspiracy theorist, I speak as someone who strongly opposed the birthers when I say that the footage of Obama fathering an alien baby looks very real to me.""

Well if you would've read that post yes, there is an end. Just SHOW the damn proof and people will have to accept it. That's just something they seem to refuse to do. I don't actually want Biden to be president because he would no-doubt be even worse that what we have now. It's a lose lose situation for the whole country in truth because Mccain would've been a disaster had he been elected.

They already did. There was a photo copy, 2 birth announcements in 2 different newspapers, and the state of Hawaii confirmed it, not once but TWICE. Now, what evidence do you have that he was born in Kenya? Your eyes...open them please :)

this is so true. a friend of mine voted for the other guy and fair enough for him, thats his choice. but now i have to get anti-obama hate mail every other day from him. ranging from "obama is going to destry americas health care system" to "obama isn't a us citizen" to "obama is trying to make the US socialists" i mean, seriously it's daily just because he doesn't like obama.

Meh. It would be a big deal if there was any semblance of truth. It's a requirement of our Constitution that the president be natural born. A stupid requirement mind you, but still a legal requirement.

YEah I understand that. Actually, I had in mind something I read or watched on here the other day. I don;t remember it specifically, but it implied that without an American born leader America was somehow weaker. I remember thinking "As if the last American leader was any better".

The thinking I suppose is that nobody who was physically born on American soil could ever be a Manchurian Candidate who plans to sell us out to the Mullahs. Whereas if someone was born in, say, Canada to Canadian parents and then they both immigrated to the U.S. before he was a week old and have lived here ever since then it is obvious that the baby was soiled somehow and destined to betray the country. :)

Both sides have their crazies, but the Democrats do their best to marginalize/ostracize their crazies. Republicans seem to be wanting to put theirs front and center lately. But let's be honest, this is just the usual political cycle. Republicans will probably get spanked in another election or two...and then they'll regroup, chase the crazies back into the margins and emerge revitalized. If nothing else, I HOPE that happens. Having only one viable party is scary for the country. If you look, most of the actual policy arguments taking place in Congress right now aren't between Republicans and Democrats. They are between the Blue Dog and the Progressive caucuses of the Democratic party.

then one has to ask.. "what proof would be sufficient for them to accept he is a citizien?" if they can not answer this question then their belief that he is not a citizen is not based on any facts and simply sour grapes.

One thing that is in question right up front is the term "African" as his fathers race. This term was not used in the early 60's on any birth certificate. The term "Negroe", "Negro" or "Colored" were the terms that were used up until political corectness started in the 70's. This saying "African" seems to be a bit of political correctness from the future perhaps. Take it as you will and I accept him as the president, but I think there is too much protectionism going on regarding his birth.

Do you have any proof AT ALL regarding 'African' was never used in this instance. And you have to remember...they are not describing a black american...they are describing someone ACTUALLY FROM AFRICA.

Man...can't believe I am arguing this anymore lol...it's so silly at this point. Actually, it was silly 8 months ago but lets all forget that :P

This is what I hope happens, but in order for the sane republicans to realize that their party has been taken over by neo-conservative, religious right nutcases they need to be put in their place. The birthers and Sarah Palin are the perfect people to help the democrats do this to them for atleast the next the next 2 elections.

[QUOTE="FragStains"]I hardly see how confirmation from the same people again will convince those who don't believe them in the first place...Redundant for $200.comp_atkins
then one has to ask.. "what proof would be sufficient for them to accept he is a citizien?" if they can not answer this question then their belief that he is not a citizen is not based on any facts and simply sour grapes.

Correct...so we as intelligent beings ignore their claims as we ignore those that call us with great offers of telephone service during dinner time.

*sigh* Just so you know jer_1: Hawaii went paperless in 2001. They converted all records into electronic format at that time. It's entirely possible that the very original birth certificate that would be the only thing that might possibly satisfy you no longer exists. But there are two reasons, aside from the fact that this has been debunked to death, for why the notion that Obama might not be a natural born citizen is an utterly and completely crazy notion: 1. Every major candidate for the presidency gets a thorough background check performed by the intelligence agencies of the country when they win their party's nomination. The FBI would have investigated this. 2. The man spent two years as "the biggest celebrity in the world" as the McCain campaign put it. Don't you think that if there was a shred of truth to your beliefs some news agency would have cracked it by now? Honestly. Do you REALLY think that the Obama campaign would have been able to keep this a secret?

3. Every single state in the U.S., both Red and Blue, is required to certify the election as legitimate. If there was even a shred of evidence, the red states would be screaming to high heaven of him being illegitimate. 4. Congress just voted on a motion YESTERDAY confirming Hawaii as the state of Obama's birth. It passed 378-0. Yes, that is 378 to ZERO. And last, but not least, the biggest evidence of all... 5. ANN COULTER calls birthers "a bunch of cranks". When Ann Coulter is dismissing your views as nutty, you have officially left the mainstream of political discourse.

I'm not gonna even use my time explaining the issues with the certificate they have shown. However there is a ton of info available on this.

You might check this as a start, it was examined by some guys fromThe International Society of Forensic Computer Examiners. They don't seem to believe its legit.

As I have said, believe what you will. In all honesty, it matters very little to me at this point, it's just damn good fun sometimes getting all the rest of you riled up!

i don't really give much credit to articles written by "Israel Insider staff". with creditable analysts like "techdude". I mean he's clearly better than anyone that the FBI would use to verify Obama. you know during the Bush administration.

Obviously people still believe he was born in Kenya. Even more so, I know people who think he is actually a Muslim in disguise lol.

Technically that second one wouldn't be a problem... not a legal one anyway. The Constitution does not require the president to be a devoted Christian. ;)

It benefits Obama to keep this going. It makes all the birthers look like crazy nut jobs and makes them loose credibility.

I realize that, the point is it's an absurd thing to believe considering he is a proclaimed Christian who has been going to church for like two decades (or more?). The only reason people actually believe that is because all the talking heads on the right were putting that out there...and because his middle name is Hussien lol.

Certificate seems forged.

Very unlike this:
