I mean, the earlier episodes (seasons 1-3) weren't too bad, but starting season 4, it was on a one-way road to random crap. After a few episodes into season 4, it was nosedive into absymal quality and it didn't get any better from there on out. What do you guys think?

Family Guy has definitely plummeted in quality over the years, but seasons 1-3 are nowhere near as good as people remember IMO. I loved them when I was 14, but watching them again recently made me realize they were never that great to begin with.

This is my view also.

I don't see how it's possible for any Simpsons episode to stoop to as low of heights as Family Guy has. Simpsons never had a "Down Syndrome Girl" song or anything else Family Guy has done since 2005.

Season 4 was OK at times (PTV was hilarious,) but yeah, they've totally run out of ideas.

The series went from having acutal story lines to focusing on quick, cheap jokes that would have been better suited to a 30 second youtube video. I don't know how the show's lasted this long.

How I Met Your Mother took a huge dip in quality after season four. Whenever I watch the newer episodes, I don't find myself laughing as much. It went from being a fresh, hilarious sitcom to a generic, overly long sitcom. The jokes have grown stale, the plot continues to drag, and I've grown tired of all the character relationships. Let's just hope the series ends on a good note with season nine.

Happy days went downhill so hard and fast that the term for ruining your show was coined after their gimmick to try and save the show.

Friends? Really? Friends was pretty consistent in quality throughout the show, there's a reason it's not known for a show that declined in quality, it didn' really. Anyway OP, I would say The Simpsons suffered a bigger decline in quality but BOTH shows turned from gold to crap. I think FG seasons 1-3 were genius and you're right starting from season 4 the quality definitely began to decline until it descended into a complete quagmire of laziness.

Actually he's not and Seth himself has even said he doesn't really "get" American Dad. The reason AD is so good is because a lot of the team that made the classic first three seasons of Family Guy got involved in it.

The Simpsons. About 10 quality seasons, followed by 15 or so seasons of mediocrity and straight awfulness. Its downhill slope is pretty damn steep. At least American Dad is still going strong.

I don't know. the thing about Family Guy is that it never lost the humor that made it popular, it just kinda of added/changed some things that made the show more intolerable outside of said humor. As for the SImpsons, While the show may have have dropped in quality, I don't think it was really by much, and I still found many of the newer episodes, or atleast the newest episodes I saw 4-5ish years ago before I got too busy with college, to be pretty enjoyable.

You want a show that totally went to sh*t? Look at Spongebob. After the movie, Spongebob just was unwatchable for me. While maybe Family Guy and the Simpsons got worse in later seasons to some degree, atleast I still found that they could still have some amusing and entertaining moments, but Spongebob? hell no.

They're trying, I'm getting emotional as it gets close to the end. As for family guy, I like it, I watched from the pilot episode and I think it's better now, not just the animation quality but the writing at least makes more sense. When I watch really old episodes a lot of it is sort of corny. I don't laugh out loud at it as much as I used to, my mom died several years ago and at the time she had said "its getting too silly" thats why she stopped watching it. And at the times I was like "what are you talking about" but comparing current episodes to now, I see what she meant.

Family Guy was never that good. Like Rhazakna said it was funny when I was 14 but not anymore. The Simpsons is pretty bad now but I'll forgive them because everything from season 1 to 10 is the best television ever created.

I always thought Family Guy was funny when I watched it, though I don't watch it, I can't stand all the musical bits they're always breaking out into them to the point it's a turnoff, but yeah I still find it funny, then again I haven't watched it for a long while. Maybe it has gone downhill but then again lots of people have always thought it sucked.

That was actually a pretty good episode, kind of an exception to all the awful joke-telling of the other episodes, and really no cutaways/pop culture references.

The episode's name is Brian and Stewie. I remember because I watched it after a few years of not regularly viewing the show, I thought I'd five it another shot. It would have been a good episode overall, but the whole poop eating gag ruined it for me. Haven't watched it again since.

I was never too crazy about Family Guy but it did use to be OK. South Park is another example of a show that has totally worn out the funny factor. I think the writers must of just got lazy.

Not sure if too many people know this but this season will be the show's last one on Fox. In 2014 it'll be changing networks to TBS.

There's an even worse episode called "Seashore Seashell Party," which is even worse and I haven't watched any new family guys since then.
