I need to mail a package today, but the only box I have is a two piece shoe box (top and bottom). Is this considered acceptable or do I need to use a standard brown box like businesses typically use?

As long as you tape it down well enough so it cant open and you can write and address on it im sure it will be fine.

take a look at page 4 http://www.usps.com/mailerscompanion/_pdf/mrc1202.pdf

As long as it's taped up and they got a to and from address on there you can ship in just about anything.

It should be fine as long as the box is in good condition and is taped up well.

Since when does the post office give away free supplies? Last time I checked, my post office charges for everything.

That's fine, if you order shoes online i doubt they'd repackage them and the box should be fine for anything as long as it's not fragile

You should be fine if the contents won't be hurt if the shoebox is roughed up a bit.

Yeah, it'll work. I've mailed stuff in all kinds of weird boxes. Just tape it up good. Also, if you have an easy way of doing it, you might consider wrapping it up in brown or white paper sorta like you would a present so that any design or text on the box isn't showing. This makes it quick and easy for the postal worker to find your address and get it moving.
