You're also paying for the option of not using Windows, which makes things a lot better. This is far better suited for the Computer Hardware board.
My opinion is of course no because Apple products are extremely overpriced. You're only paying for a brand.

This. There's no logical reason to purchase an apple computer unless you're ignorant on how computers work software and hardware wise. This is far better suited for the Computer Hardware board.

You're also paying for the option of not using Windows, which makes things a lot better. Yeah, I definitely love to feel restricted when I use a computer. /sarcasm Macs are fine for those who know literally nothing about computers, but for anyone that wants a PC that can actually do many things, it's Windows or Linux. You're paying extra to have a locked down computer with a fraction of the programs Windows has. OS X has no advantages against Windows.[QUOTE="Masenkoe"]

You'll find OSX is an incredible user friendly OS. Very efficient & reliable.
-Word processing: Microsoft office is available on OSX, but also Open Office (free word processor that can read, edit, and export word files amongst others, what I use for my university papers)
-Netflix: works on Mac, Actually just started the 30 day free trial for my Macbook a few hours ago. May have to switch a browser, but works.
-web browsing: recommend having both Chrome & Firefox. Safari a good 3rd choice, and still much better than IE. Chrome is very satable though for my Macbook. Currently have over 30 tabs.:P
If your not doing any heavy work I would recommend a Macbook Air or refurbished Macbook (Plastic body Macbooks are no longer produced, just Macbook pros)
Like I often say, if you have the money and are not a core PC gamer then a Mac is likely the best choice for you.

So just because he "has the money" he should waste it on an inferior product? That makes no sense. Nothing you posted says that "macbook is the best choice for you" because all of that is possible on a Windows PC for much cheaper.I don't have one, but my older sister does. She's had it for months and says she likes it and that she has not gotten a single virus (amazing, considering all the shady websites she goes on).
But with the stuff you want to do, you could get a regular PC and get by fine. Macbooks are expensive as hell. My sister paid around $1000 for hers.
If money isn't a huge issue, then absolutely. Yes, it's overpriced, but it has everything.
OS is so much better than windows

Besides software compatability(da games) OSX blows windows out of the water.

It kind of is, I havent used windows in so long that I probably couldnt give you a decent specific. It's just awesome, simple yet eloquent.

OSX is more user friendly than Windows(very visual based interface.),
more efficient with hardware than windows(spec to spec, will almost always out score Windows in performance test, even though it is slight)
more reliable(less prone to bugs & glitches),
more secure than windows(less than a percent of a percent as many viruses),
much longer lasting than windows(will run as fast as the day you got it, 5 years later).
I'm not a Apple fanboy, I carry an andriod Phone & tablet, an use Windows PCs at college for classes. Not every Apple product is good. There version of Office is *****
And **** do I hate the move away from Optical drives:evil:

I'll give you that OS X is more efficient with hardware than windows, but that's because Apple has a lock on what can be put on the platform. As for the rest of your points, they're all complete bullsh*t. Windows isn't less reliable, it isn't less secure, and how the hell does OSX last longer than Windows? Also, saying it's user friendly is an understatement, OSX is for those that know nothing about computers, which is why it exists. Windows is perfectly user friendly, but it doesn't limit you unlike OSX.If I had a macbook maybe my game would get better with the ladies.Wilfred_OwenI already told you. Not gonna happen.

The macbook pro? I dont think so, but I have a macbook air and I love it. One of the few ultrabooks that allows you to get 8gb of ram. I am by no means an apple fan, but truth is, apple makes very good laptops, yes in general they are overpriced (especially the macbook pros), but IMO the airs arent really that bad compared to all the other ultrabooks with similar specs.
I tried really hard to find a laptop thats not a mac in the laptop space, but the air was the only one that checked out my checklist which was
- i7
- 8gb of ram
- Good LCD quality
- Backlit keyboard
- Under 4 pounds
- Good battery life

Virtual machines, IDEs, and still be able to work on multiple websites, music, etc all at the same time? You have eclipse open, couple of websites, music, a VM and there goes your 8gb of ram

Do you program? IDEs take up quite a bit of ram, now you mix that with a VM, + all the other normal things you do, your easily over 4gb of ram. Anyway, that was my checklist and the air was the only one that filled my quota

I find it interesting someone would be able to productively use things of that nature on a laptop. Your battery would almost instantaneously die, and if you're plugged in constantly it would of been better to simply get a desktop. I find that insane that someone can exceed 6gb. I use itunes(which is a ram hog on PC), and I use everything in Google's eco which is always running in the background with steam, and even with a console port game I've never hit the 6GB mark, especially from a laptop.[QUOTE="way2funny"][QUOTE="Fightingfan"] That's bullsh*t, I can run Crysis and with tons of programs in the back and not even use 6gb or more then 4 out of my eight cores.

But I cant sacrafice too much preformance. I have a 4 year old laptop with 4gb of ram and I'm always hitting the ram threshold there so I knew I needed more, and enough to last me about 4 years.
You never hit the 6gb mark, but I'm sure you surpass the 4gb mark and thats exactly it, I want enough that I know I wont surpass

There are better options, most for less, it all depends on your needs (performance, weight, price, etc.).
Heck if you're going to spend that much, you could even get the ASUS TAICHI for ~$1300.
Metallic body, dual 1920x1080 screens placed back to back, so when closed it becomes a tablet. Powered by an Intel Core i5 and has a 128GB SSD.
$1600 gets you an Intel core i7 and 256GB SSD. There is also an optional digital pen.

I've never really used Eclipse but I've used bloated IDE's like Visual studio and it doesn't take up a particularly large amount of ram. Granted, it does depend on the size of the project you have open, but even then it shouldn't take up much memory, it's only a programming environment after all. Please Log In to post.
