The Artic emits a 445nm cool blue, ultra high power 1W beam which appears up to 4000% brighter than the Sonar's 405nm violet beam. This direct blue laser diode is the result of the evolution of laser technology. Less than one year ago, this laser would have cost thousands of dollars to build. Don't let the Arctic name fool you, this laser possesses the most burning capabilities of any portable laser in existence. That's why it's also the most dangerous laser ever created.

To my knowledge, it's not possible to have lasers that suddenly end like lightsabers. Or to be visible from the side in clear air.

No, Arms means firearms.

Besides how powered lasers have been restricted ever since they have existed. If that thing is real it can't be for civilian use.

You have to physically stop the laser, like adding something to point is at based on the lenght you want. Also a powerfull enough laser would be visible in plain daylight.

I just hope they do it before i die.

It would need to be scattered; otherwise, as a beam of coherent light, it's not visible from the side in a translucent, consistent medium.

It's not a matter of the brightness, it's a matter of the fact the the photons are all moving together in a coherent beam. If the photons are all going forward, none move to the sides to make it visible from the other angles. That's what smoke and other scattering agents in the air do, cause photons to bounce and scatter out of coherence.

Getting excited about one watt? Maybe I'm not up to date on lasers, but that just seems really low. Can that thing do anything more than blind someone? I'll be a lot more excited when they invent a battery that can store enough energy to do what they depict lightsabers doing.

"Warning: Extremely dangerous is an understatement to the power of 1W of laser power. It will blind permanently and instantly and set fire quickly to skin and other body parts, use with extreme caution and only when using the included eye protection. Customers will be required to completely read and agree to our Class IV Laser Hazard Acknowledgment Form." I'll stick with my Force FX thanks.

What? If this is real, I'll buy one tomorrow because I don't sit around just talking to the armchair experts because this is a college seminar. I talk to these folks because they potentially have the best answers, so I know whose *** to kick.

When you mentioned seminars I had a humerous image of someone using it as a laser pointer and burning down an entire school.

What? That thing is a ****4 Laser for $200 bucks. You can get cancer with this thing. Evenlooking at the dot on matte surfaces can get you blind, i have no freaking idea how they think they can sell this. If this thing actually gets shipped (and Gizmodo is getting one soon) expect hundreds of accidents involving houses on fire and alot of blind kids.

It burns pretty much every surface almost instantly. That means your skin. And the NOHD 211 meters (.25 seconds unaided eye)That means that you need to be 700 feet away to be safe of the exposure of this laser for a quarter of a second. The longer the exposure, the longer the NOHD... This thing should be ilegal.

Think about that

Actually yes. I think people would see a laser as something more of a toy than a dangerous weapon. A gun at least, is treated with more caution.

Yeah... did they really think this was a good idea? Are they marketing this as a techno-saw for cutting wood conveniently or are they marketing this as a lethal weapon? Are Class 4 lasers even legal? Honestly the thought of anyone being able to own this is a horrifying idea. There are a lot of morons in the world, and many will end up blind/killed or causing other people to end up blind/killed. This is about as stupid as having flamethrowers legal (and yes they are in most states).

Actually, adding a mass whos color isnt as bright or brighter than the laser to the lasers point of origin will make it visible. The problem is that a laser would most likely melt it.
