I'm 23 years old and I find myself not interested in anything. I do things to pass the time like watching films or playing games, but the sold reason I'm doing these activities is to help pass the time otherwise I'd just be sitting in silence, which is something I do almost daily. Nothing is particularly fun for me. Everything just feels bland and redundant. When ever I try something new I never become interested or have fun. It just feels like I'm spending my entire life doing things I don't enjoy.

Advice?

Do something productive that will benefit others. Volunteer your time to help at a homeless shelter, an animal shelter, or paint an elderly person's house.

You might be depressed.

Sounds like you have a hard time feeling satisfaction, which I can sort of relate to. Back when I was 12, I was unable to laugh.

Definitely this. You might not enjoy doing these things but after you do them you definitely won't feel like you wasted your time.

I can relate. Try reading something that interests you...for me it was astronomy/physics, trying to figure out how the world and the universe works. There must be something that interests you besides games and movies.

I would say that you should go out of your way to force yourself to see a therapist. A lot of things that seem hopeless in actuality have solutions, but since you are so down you can't see said solutions. Take into consideration that a therapist deals with this kind of thing. He understand the mind much more than the average person. He will point out things and try to help you. In top of that, it is private. Nobody has to know anything. I would also suggest going to a psychologist first... NOT a psychiatrist. A psychiatrist may be more likely to prescribe you medication when you may not need it. If you really really really can't get passed whatever is fueling your torment THEN I would say try medication.

Also, if he's gonna be stuck doing something he doesn't like, then he'd might as well do something he doesn't like that actually accomplishes something. It'd be one thing if he DID like watching movies and playing games. Then it's like, "well at least you like it, so that's okay." But if he doesn't even like movies and games, then there's no reason whatsoever to do those things.

Oh in that case there's a good chance you have depression as a result of a chemical imbalance. It's an illness like any other and I know very intelligent people who have that as well. There is no shame in going to a psychiatrist. Although you have to keep in mind that life isn't all about having fun. The most important thing is that you don't feel like you're wasting your time.

Visualize your ideal life.

Where would you be?

What would you be doing?

Would you have lots of friends? Dates? Would you go out, party?

If you could be anybody in the world, who would you be?

Also is the social anxiety something you would like to change.

It does help you just don't try and your not consistent with social interactions. Which means when you do get into a social situation your not as comfortable, keep trying and failing at first and then soon you will get better with being social. Like Killyou and PWsteal said just try new places and people.

Would you go out, party? Of course, but nothing like clubs I'm not a fan of overly crowded and loud places If you could be anybody in the world, who would you be? Me, but a happier version of me Also is the social anxiety something you would like to change. Of course

It's weird how a nice girl can make you so happy. This one time, a girl I knew was asked to go somewhere to pick up something for someone else. She simply asked just me to come along too, to giver her company. It's a little thing but it can really put a smile on your face for the rest of the day.

[QUOTE="The_Gaming_Baby"] I have a jobThe_Gaming_Baby

What kind of job? Certain jobs like retail will let you meet a lot of people around your age.

Half of my job is retail, the other half is in front of a computer screen. I've been doing the computer side for about a year and the retail side for about 9 years

Hmmm maybe a new career choice or going back to school(if you are not currently enrolled) will help. You will be surprised at what a vocation can do for you socially and emotionally.
