So I am a freshman in college and I am doing a business major at the moment but I really don't know what I want to be. I thought I'd do something in business because i've been in many business classes but I guess it's just boring to me.

What I LOVE:

History (It just fascinates me)

The world (different countries are fascinating, I would love to visit many countries)

Nutrition

Sports

Entertainment (movies, video games, media, etc...)

Extremely high paying job

What I hate:

Math

Long hours (I'd like around 40-50 hours a week)

Math

Math

Desk job

Any ideas?

Sorry but you have fallen into the social cliche of 'anything that doesnt have math'.

I suggest you take a vocacional exam at any rate.

I mean, a historian :P or you could always try and be a news reporter, you can deal with both sports, and occasionally history in that job.

Since you love history so much (I'm alsoa massive history buff), why not switch to teacher, and become a History Teacher?

Extremely low pay and I don't want to deal with kids. Being a teacher is not the only career around history i know that.

Professional spelunker.

  1. It's a sport (kind of)
  2. You need to eat well to be in good shape to do it
  3. It's entertaining (kind of)
  4. You can't bring a desk with you
  5. You don't need math (wait, yes you do; arithmetic at least)

You just can't get away from math. Even if you're a ditch digger, you need to be able to measure the depth. Sorry. :?

Historical sociology?

Sports were a huge part of ancient society, even to the point of being sacred in some cases.

Blazerdt I too also hate math but trust me that does not make one an idiot just because you loath it, if you love history why don't you become a historical writer ? You could put your love of history to use by writing fiction or non fiction, thus using your love of history for a creative job. If that does not interst you become a sports writer for a news paper or magazine.

Blazerdt I want to be a game designer and a writer when I finish college, but just because I hate math will not stop me from achieveing what I want in life. So don't worry you will find something for yourself you just have to look and believe in yourself and your skills.

Here's an idea. You're already doing business stuff, so it'd be less trouble for you to build off of that, but you said you like other countries. Why don't you minor in a foreign language and try to get some sort of business job where you are in charge of a certain foreign territory. Learn spanish, french, or german and you will become an asset.

Really, if you learn a foreign language, you are more valuable no matter what job you end up with. So, maybe you want to drop the business stuff altogether. You could do a double major history/foreign language. I think those would probably go together relatively well in terms of credits. The only downside is that there are not many jobs where history would be that useful. "Writer" or "teacher"are the only ones that come to mind.

You said you wanted a high paying job... unfortunately, most of the high paying jobs are either highly technical like engineering(usually involves a lot of math) or they are business-oriented (business owner, manager, etc). It's not impossible, but it is more difficult to make a fortune in a non-technical non-business oriented field.

You'd be surprised. Some engineering stuff pays pretty decent out of college. I mean... assuming you're not married and you don't have a kid, you could be living pretty rich right out of college.

All or most of the bachelor's degrees that have high paying starting salaries involve math, so those are out of the question, apparently.

I was going to create a topic about this, but seeing as how there's already one, I figure I'll just post here.

OK, so here's my situation: I'm sick, and require chemotherapy every Monday. This makes me quite sick and unable to function until Wednesday-Thursday, depending. I can't work those days, at least not out of the house. Mostly I'm in bed or on the couch. What would be a good occupation for this situation? Nobody can give me a straight answer. I enjoy videogames, nature. I'd like to find something online, but have no idea where to look. Any advice would be appreciated.

hey hey hey. i just got a job as a plumber, they actually make good money, .......but ima go to art school to be a game designer **** screwing in water lines all day :P

TC you should ask yourself what you would do if you had a million dollars. and THAT should be your job. this doesn't work for me tho as i wouldn't do anything.
