There's been a lot of talk going around that Donald Trump is gonna run for president for the 2012 elections. Do you think he will actually do this? And if becomes president do you think he'll be a good one? I'm not sure about it all. Explain and share your thoughts.

Didn't Gary Coleman run for president?

And I know for a fact that at least one porn star (I'm not gonna say her name because I'm not sure if that's allowed here) ran for president of the USA.

So...will he actually run for POTUSA? I don't know, and frankly it doesn't even matter. Even if he does run, he's not gonna be anything more than a joke for humorists like Jon Stewart. No one would take him seriously anyway, so what does it matter if he runs for president?

Pretty sure the pornstar ran for governor of California, and almost sure Coleman did as well. It was a joke, I havent been that ashamed to call myself a Californian since prop 8 passed

I don't think anybody (including myself) would take him seriously. I think it's a joke that has gone too far now.

As for the hypothetical "how would he be as a president?" question, in theory, he may be decent for the economy, but I doubt he'd be good at anything else - and I have doubts about the economy thing.

Trump is a joke, but he's in the midst of a field full of jokes, so being one of the best jokes means that he's a current frontrunner.

I don't care enough to actually check facts. But now that you say that, I think that you're right.

Well...didn't Al Sharpton run for president at least once?

tbh I dont care enough either. In this day and age, not voting ( "GASP!" ) says more than actually voting...IMO. I refuse to settle for the lesser of two evils; this is America, why should I settle?

If only people would get off their high horses about not voting, maybe they'd stop saying "Oh, I am so ashamed, voter turnout is only xx%" and would say "No wonder voter turnout is so low! Our candidates suck!"

Its all a joke, and with the general attention span of the American (do any of us remember who Eliot Spitzer was?) I refuse to let others make me feel guilty about not voting. I refuse to be manipulated by trends, mudslinging, and unsatisfactory candidates.

I believe the notion of anything serious went out when he said he wanted to build a 100m dollar costing ball room for the white house. In context, he did say he would pay for it himself, but in that same context the same, why not spend that money on, say, some schools or R&D on something meaningful to the entire country? All that did was show that, in the end, he wants to entertain and get a high from the position. Dropped off the radar for me 100% after that notion.

democrat...republican...I Just want good candidates. I dont care what party they're from. At this rate Osama could run as democrat and would be a better candidate than what the republicans throw in.

Meh, worst case scenario, I just plain don't tell anybody whether or not I voted. If they ask me why, I tell them that it's none of their ****ing business.

Yeah...I do what I want.

If I don't want to vote, I won't vote. I'm not entitled to tell people who I voted for, whether or not I even voted, or why I voted or didn't vote. It's not their business. I won't get offended if they ask, just so long as they don't get offended when I say that I'm not ****ing talking about it.

I'm not gonna go so far as to say that NOT voting makes a bigger statement than vboting, but that's beside the point. If you feel ashamed one way or the other, there's nothing with just plain telling people to **** off when they start pestering you about it. And sure, people shouldn't feel like they HAVE to vote. I mean, voting is one of our most sacred rights. But it sort of ceases to be a "right" the second that you HAVE to do it.

pretty much this. Trump is a celebrity, whatever success he has had in the past decade + is derived from his name, not his business sense, intelligence, or political guile

He's polling like 15 points down in matchups against Obama.

yes, I am sure in 30 years we will be talking about his daughter's business sense and political worth when she "makes" her first billion also.

does he deserve one? Sometimes, rarely I admit, but sometimes jackasses don't even deserve a single consideration. The American political system deserves better than Trump. Its an insult to you, me, and 300 million others, not to mention the rest of the world since, you know, we police that **** :P

I try to be openminded, I really do...but Trump?

The main reason I object to Trump is simply because he is the epitome of money = power. The only reason he is being considered is because he has the money (and fame) to get his name out there. You could (and I think he did) right a book about all the good he has done. You could easily right a book about the wrong.

But in the end, a president is a figurehead. A president should be smart, but more importantly he should stand for what the American people are. And right now, the American people are working their ass off overtime, growing poorer, less employed. We are not sitting in Penthouse number 127 eating gold-leafed ice cream out of gold-plated bowls and divorcing our supermodel wives.

In short, Trump is the antithesis of the American

For starters, the fact that his main platform appears to be that Obama isn't an American citizen.

i think trump would be a good pres. only because hes pretty much a closet liberal. He could pass the policies the democratic party have been championing but get backing because he tricked the tea party into trusting him.

democrats have the best economic policy... they just need someone to champion them, that isnt black so people dont question his birth certificate.

trump isnt dumb, he knows whats going on... he just knows hes gotta play dumb in order to attract the republican base.

To be honest, that really has nothing to do with how well he'd do at being the president. You don't like him for that, fine... but it really says zero about any of his policies or his vision for what he'd do as president.

P.S... he never said he wasn't an American citizen. He has questions as to whether or not he was born a citizen.

i think trump would be a good pres. only because hes pretty much a closet liberal.

BMD004

And what economic policy is that?

"By imposing a one-time 14.25 percent net-worth tax on the richest individuals and trusts, we can put America on sound financial footing for the next century"

-Donald Trump

hes been a liberal all his life, hes a business man... he knows you cant run a business in america if americans cant afford your business. Middle cIass needs more money in order to grow business.

IF only the top 1% can afford cable to watch the apprentice, its fails... the middle cIass needs money to drive the economy. The rich dont create jobs, the middle cIass do.

Trump is smart enough to know this, hes playing the republican base for a fool.

EDIT: more trump quotes "The Canadian plan also helps Canadians live longer and healthier than Americans... We need, as a nation, to reexamine the single-payer plan."

"I'm very liberal when it comes to health care. I believe in universal health care."

repubs aint smart enough to actually research this stuff, they respect bravado and uncompromising character even when the facts are against you... thats how the republican party works.... thats why hes winning the polls.... because he knows republicans wouldnt know a fact if it punched em in the mouth. He acting, playing a character... and its working.

For everybody saying he'd be a joke of a president, what makes you think he'd be bad? Any specifics?

BMD004

For starters, the fact that his main platform appears to be that Obama isn't an American citizen.

To be honest, that really has nothing to do with how well he'd do at being the president. You don't like him for that, fine... but it really says zero about any of his policies or his vision for what he'd do as president.

P.S... he never said he wasn't an American citizen. He has questions as to whether or not he was born a citizen.

It may not say anything about him being president... For that I you might want to watch the video Randolph posted.... But it is why Donald is so popular among Republicans right now. To win an election with a campaign whose whole linchpin is a conspiracy involving the current president would be a huge joke.

true, but the middle cIass drives the economy. Businesses dont cater to the top 1% or our economy would tank if they did... every business, whether its a hollywood movie, a waffle house... even a coal powered electricity facility.... all rely on the middle cIass being able to afford their goods. Windows, iphone, playstation, nintendo, xbox.... all these businesses rely on middle cIass purchasing power.

you drop middle cIass wages through tax policy and enrich the top 1%.. you get where we are, a recession.

A rich guy may hire you, but you are being hired to serve the middle cIass

trump knows every company has executives that do the hiring.... but their job is to serve the middle cIass. The middle cIass is the ultimate end consumer. Outside of a few fringe companies like yacht builders.... but yacht building isnt blowing up our GDP.

If he does run, then it will only be a boon for Obama. I don't think he will though. He's just being a media attention whore like he always is and trying to get better ratings for his show.

u guys talk down about trump so bad as if you know better or something. im not saying that he would be the greatest president or anything, but cmon the man isnt worth 7 billion off of nothing. even if he did inherit his wealth from his father, he still made it to what it is today and has had tremendous success. if u cant respect him cuz of that then look at other things he does. the celebrity apprenctice shows donate money to charity and stuff every task they are given. hes raised a fine family, his son and daughter are intelligent and seem like really classy people.

I agree. Who knows how good of a president he'd be, but whenever there is a Republican who comes along and makes some noise, the popular thing to do is talk about how much of an idiot that person is, how stupid that person is, how ignorant that person is, and laugh at that person and call that person a joke. I mean, people are acting like he's Paris Hilton and just mooched off of his parents... and that isn't true.

I think that speaks more to the current potential Republican candidate field than it does about Trump.

I don't think Trump will make a serious attempt to run though. I think he's using this to increase his publicity and income.

I think he'll keep his stunt up until the last minute then come up with an excuse not to run. I think it's really for publicity. Like they were saying on The Today Show, as long as people are saying Trump's name, he's a happy man. Also, I don't think he will make a great president, but you never know.

Trump would be a terrible president. However he's not an idiot, I doubt he'll really earnestly run and use this to get his name even more well known.

Trump isn't my first choice for President, but I'd rather have him than Obama.

I can get myself to sleep at night by just thinking he's doing all of this for publicity. In the event that it is real and he does run and if by some miracle he becomes President of the United States, I'm fleeing to Mexico.
