Good music is always a plus. I still listen to the music from Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask even years after playing it because it's just great. Some other examples that escape me right now, but yes, I like listening to video game music.

For the longest time, I would only listen to videogame music, mostly remixes from the NES era - I'd listen to only videogame music, forever, instead of this new hip-hop/pop crap that's coming out these days.

Not a big fan of Oblivion, but I do love the music. Jeremy Soule's work in general is awesome.

I have a few other video game soundtracks..some of Mitsuda's stuff, and even the P4 soundtrack..(mostly for "Heartbeat, Heartbreak", heh.)

That said, I don't listen to video game music on a regular basis, outside of the games themselves of course.

Yes, I sure do, not just from video games but from movies as well. Hans Zimmer (If you don't know who that is, he did the soundtrack for movies like the Dark Knight and Angels and Demons) is probably my favourite artist. Music from both video games and movies really should get more appreciation than they deserve.

I like it, not enough to listen to it in my spare time, but if it's on I usually won't turn it off unless I heard it a million times. I really love the old Genesis tracks, though, such as Vectorman.

Not including licenced music in games I tend to judge a games music by how it fits in with the game, does it captures the proper spirit of the game or not.

Some of my favorites were:-

Forest Monks from Chaos Legions - It's a great tune that goes perfectly along with the pacing of that certain point of the game and the happenings with the onscreen action.

Theme of Ryu - Street Fighter 4 - It's just legend, I get goosebumbs when I play to this and I'm unbeatable except I'm not.

Overpass Stage - Street Fighter 4 again - I love this one, it reflects on the modernisation of Street Fighter 4 and the hardcore element to it is the type of music young kids might listen to, which is great because the background has lots of children watching and cheering on the fight.

Shadow Of Colossus - No link to this one, it has pretty good music all over it, it's all in bits and pieces and it hits all the right notes and is truely part of the whole experience.

Bad Girl - No more Heroes - This is totally No More Heroes, the best fight in the game with the tune to back it up. It's a kind of electronica you wouldn't think you'll listen to by itself but fits in perfectly with the pacing and theme of the battle.

The only game music I listened to outside the game were those in Road Rash 3DO. Beyond those, none. In fact, I turn off the music in all my games. It's hard for me to get immersed when there's music in the background.

True, and their implementation of the music is also masterful. The fights with the colossi in SOTC are made unforgettable not only for their epic scale but for the dramatisation that the music brings. Awesome game.

yeah, colossus fights are scored so brilliantly. you dont have just one theme for most fights. they mix in the colossus' theme with themes for stages of taking down the beast and it really emphasises both your progress and the drama. its heightened by the bleak world with no music for the other parts of the game.

Yeah, in fact I only own 2 non-gaming CDs. I don't like listening to non-gaming songs because I don't like voices. I'd say 90% of what I listen to online and offline is videogame music (Zelda, Mario, Oblivion, RE, KH, LO, DQ, R&C, TimeSplitters, SH, Sonic, and a few others) I also have piano sheets for these games. :D

That's the song that plays at the main menu right? I remember I'd just sit at the main menu for like 10 minutes because I loved that song.

Well, while an orchestral score might sound pleasant enough in-game and add to the atmosphere, I'm not likely to listen to it outside of the videogame setting. Other than that, I do enjoy listening to a lot of games' music outside of playing the game itself. Sometimes, though, I'll play a game just so I can listen to the music, because the music is integral to the experience (for example Jet Set Radio and Jet Set Radio Future) Side-note: JSR and JSRF currently hold the title for my favourite game soundtracks evar.

Not really... Unless we're talking about World of Goo. I like to mute my in-game music and overlap it with music that I actually enjoy. That, and the music sometimes spoils the surprises. Or, it builds up unwanted anticipation (mainly horror games)... I really only started to mute it because I couldn't play a single horror game without having my eyes half closed then getting ready to scream for the "music told me so".

What? That's like paying jazz music over a horror movie. Kills any possible suspense which is the point no?
