I dont know why people here in these forums feel the need to hate everything that is popular. yes some of the popular items suck and are fads, but not all of them are. The ipad is really cool once you get some time to mess with it.
I just don't understand why it's needed. We've got computers, phones, internet, and books. Why do we need a tablet that allows us to burn EVEN LESS calories with walking to retrieve those things? Convenience is not always a good thing, especially when you're just promoting materialism, laziness, and the thirst for efficiency in modern day society.
Since I got mine for free as a work gift, its ok. I would never buy one at retail price, but I have to admit its been a great media device for around the home.
If a rich person wants to buy one, fine. But when I see someone I know isn't rich spend a massive chunk of their paycheck on one I feel sorry for them because I feel they have been suckered into buying it.
I compared and am much happier with my Xoom, though even that I only bought as a toy more or less. Developing my own apps is much cleaner and more industry-standard on Android platforms.
I remember before it came out, all I heard was bad things and skeptism about the product, however, today all I hear is great things about it. Do you think the hate has died down?

Its an even worse buy now. There are many better options. About to be one more, when the Samsung Galaxy 10 comes out. Same price. Also, the Asus Transformer, which outsold available inventory and can only be found with a markup at the moment, but retails for $100 cheaper than the Ipad. If you want to spend MORE, the 12 inch Asus that does Windows is a good one, or the Maestro Evolve III that does Windows AND Android 2.2.
I don't hate on the ipad. I hate all tablet computers as i believe they are overpriced, overhyped pieces of garbage who are hoping to overtake pc's while running a OS designed for cellphones

Thats not really true anymore. Android 3.0 was made for tablets. Its just in its infancy still.

Well, as you can see, everyone hates it for the features it lacks in comparison to similar products.
So you admit the IPad can do less than a netbook. The IPad also costs more than a Netbook. the Ipad has no physical Keyboard. Yeah, i dunno. I think i'd take the computer that takes ~2 minutes to get use to, rather than the more expensive one with less features.Nibroc420
So having more features is more important than doing those features well? I have tried using several Netbooks, and they have been a horrible experience compared to regular laptops. They cannot do what I need a laptop to do, or they make the experience completely impossible. I do not own an iPad, but I know several people who do, and they all love them. I have used it, and I would definitely buy one if I had the money. The iPad has limited features, but it is never a pain, because it does those features extremely well. It is not a laptop replacement. It is a portable web browser, and video / gaming device. It is great at those things.
I didnt see the point of them when they first came out. Now I can't see myself without it. My iPad has completely replaced my laptop thanks to its superior portability.

Those "OS designed for cellphones" are capable of basically all the things that the majority of computer users actually use their computers for.
