There is no "greatest scientist of all time."
You can't single out one individual and rank them above all the others because they all contribute.

Jesus is my favorite scientist.fidosim
And my favorite founding father.
When he stood up to King George and signed the declaration... I mean wow, that took guts. But when he led the US military to victory against France in the revolutionary war, now that was genius.
If it weren't for physics, we wouldn't have the technology for medical advancements.

I do agree with this, though, the statement that physics has made its contribution - anything from chemotherapy to x-ray imaging would be impossible without modern physics, and all of those things, too, are fundamental parts of modern medicine.
[QUOTE="fidosim"]Jesus is my favorite scientist.sSubZerOoWhat Scientific Theories, or discoveries did he make/form? He turned water into wine, walked on water, and made a storm go away with a wave of his hand. The laws of physics and nature have nothing on Jesus.

A magician maybe, not a scientist.

I'm, er, fairly sure he's joking. :P

Jesus actually changed the molecular makeup of water, turning it into wine. He didn't bother doing a writeup on his results because nobody at the time would have understood his genius.

Chris angel is a better magician than Jesus.
The tricks that Jesus did had already been done before by Dionysus.

Jesus died and came back to life. Nobody can match that. Oh wait, Lazarus came back to life too. Those people were magicians i.e. illusionists. Jesus was the real deal.Well you could say that he didnt intend to help medical science but that doesnt matter since it is his theory which has shaped the very face of modern medical science. We never really know anybody's intentions so we cant judge on that. then we might as well ascribe even greater significance to the work of Hippocrates, since it's influence on modern medicine is even broader[QUOTE="xaos"]Darwin made no contributions to medical science :\Anonymous_2

Jesus knows everybody. Therefore the Jesus at your house right now is one of the fake illusionists taking on the appearance of Jesus. Checkmate yourself.then we might as well ascribe even greater significance to the work of Hippocrates, since it's influence on modern medicine is even broaderThat fellow is called by some the father of medicine and darwin is called the father of modern medicine.[QUOTE="xaos"][QUOTE="Anonymous_2"]Well you could say that he didnt intend to help medical science but that doesnt matter since it is his theory which has shaped the very face of modern medical science. You could say he is better, it doesnt really matter. My main point is that biologists>>>physicists.:)
That depends on your criteria; also, given your assessment of harm, consider that biological weapons present a far greater risk to life on earth than nuclear weapons ever have.[QUOTE="Meejoe27"][QUOTE="fidosim"] Those people were magicians i.e. illusionists. Jesus was the real deal.fidosim

But to be honest he is quite drunk, and its hard to take him seriously right now.
Damnit, he looks like hes about to puke, brb.
Yeah... except the problem is, most of those scientists ideas have been proven either wrong or not as accurate as they could be. Some of their ideas and discoveries have become scientific "laws," but for the most part, their ideas lacked something that only a new scientist that came along later down the line and fixed.
Darwin didn't understand how natural selection worked, he just knew it did. Newton didn't know how gravity worked (and we still don't) but he knew it did. Einstein didn't want to accept quantum mechanics, but physics can't do without it now.
Science is always improving. There can never be a "greatest scientist of all time!"

For real?
Because, let's just suppose that for some reason we want to wipe out as much life on Earth as possible.
Nuclear weapons won't kill everything, but we could kill a lot more stuff just by launching more nuclear weapons. If we REALLY tried, we could scorch every single square inch of ground, cause a pretty extreme "nuclear winter", and kill a hell of a lot of all life on the planet.
That's if we REALLY tried, and there was an international efort to destroy all life on Earth. Still wouldn't wipe out all life on Earth, but the result would probably be impressive enough to be noteworthy.
But what biological weapons do we have that can compete with the sheer force of Blowing Everything Up? Hell, even if we were to engineer a virus designed to **** up as much stuff as possible, how likely are wew to make that virus deadly to EVERYTHING on the planet, with a 100% fatality rate for all the species that are affected?
I don't think that biological weapons would work either. I think that it'd be better to just Blow Everything Up. Of course, Blowing Everything Up wouldn't eradicate life on Earth either, but I'll bet it would be far easier, and would kill more life.
Of course calling a scientist the "greatest ever" is kind of dubious because every scientist builds on previous scientists' work. But Newton deserves more credits. He invented calculus, and set all the rules for modern day physics. Every person on this earth studying to be an engineer starts with the laws of physics defined by isaac newton, and the rest of the study is built on that.
I dont understand why physicists like newton or albert einstien are given more praise cuz physics dont help humanity as much as biology. Advancement in physics only gives us more luxuries and comfort but it doesnt really do anything about misery which medical science trys to help of whom darwin is the father.
It is becasue of people like newton and einstien that we have such deadly weapon science today which is by far the worst product of human advancement. Biology perhaps helps in making some poisionous things but that's about it really.

I don't know what to say..
Physics isn't a science based purely about making weapons of mass destruction, and biology isn't a science based about making pretty plants. Both have their flaws and both have improved society in unimaginable ways.
