Which kind of cars do you usually prefer? I like the foreign ones better for the most part (Toyota, Nissan) because of them being so reliable in my experience. They are also more my style than big Ford trucks or fast Mustangs. Plus I am more of a "as long as it runs well and is comfortable" type of person rather than someone who cares about looks and speed.

Quality is relative. I've seen my fair share of Nissans that have to be towed out from the garage to the dealer service center. I currently have Honda and Hyundai. Before them, it was Ford and Dodge, Before those, it was Nissan and Mitsubishi.

After my current ones? Not sure yet. Looking at the emerging trend....... chances are high for a Big Three duo. A Subaru isn't out of the question either.

I always owned American but I have a Nissan Frontier now and I don't see myself going American again anytime soon. Other than the Silverado and Cadillac CTS, I don't see many American cars I like as much anymore.

Palantas likes British cars..I think. I like Jaguars, which are owned by an Indian company, and Bentleys, which are owned by Volkswagen.

derp.

You need to go on a case by case basis. Some American cars are better than foreign equivalents and vice versa.

Personally I like Ford more than anything else, but Hyundai would be my second (and last) choice as far as your non-luxury brands go.

I buy American.

1. Stigma against american cars means you can negotiate a lower price.

2. Generally cheaper to repair depending on the model.

3. Win any political argument against somebody who drives a foriegn car by doubting their patriotism :)

I really like the '96 to '06 XKs. I like the new ones too, but that previous generation is my favorite.

For reliability and long-term mechanical durability, Japanese all the way. I've had several Nissans, and they've all taken any beating that I can dish out. My old 300zx was a tank, and ran like a top with nearly all original parts when it was 20 years old. Both of my 350z's have been rock-solid, and I beat them pretty good. Ford is starting to impress me lately, and I would take one of their new 5.0 Mustangs over any other American car (other than a Corvette).

In terms of refinement you can't beat a European car, particularly a BMW or Mercedes. They are usually very reliable too, but even my dad (BMW owner) says that he'd put my Nissan well above his 5 series in terms of being bug-free and reliable with high mileage. There is definitely something very satisfying about the driving experience in his car though. The only chinks in the armor are fuel mileage and the cost of parts.

Foreign.

American cars are often fuel hogs, and gas prices aren't cheap these days.

Foreign. I don't find much appeal in American cars. The 60s-70s cars looked cool, but I wouldn't drive one.

I drive a foreign car (BMW) and I'll continue to be loyal to them unless the quality somehow manages to drastically drop.

Why is that?

If I want a cheap reliable indestructible car, I'll get a Honda or something from over there. If I want an expensive car, that's beautifully built and just as pretty on the outside I'll get a European. No reason to consider an American car.

As meaningless as it is, I hate the Ford badge, it's just ugly.

Also, there's not one pretty American car.

I must admit i hated Mustangs of the past but surely the new one with the 5.0 Coyote looks good to you? I think it just looks awesome and it is as fast as a BMW M3 around a track!

Honda is a family legacy for us so... Honda.

It's disappointing that Honda still hasn't made an all-electric model car yet, but I can't fault them for everything. Pretty much every Honda I've owned has been a great vehicle that I've been entirely satisfied with.

Just passed the 230,000 mark on my Honda Accord.

American (read: Ford) cars are starting to pick up their feet in the market though. It's gonna be tough to justify buying Honda all the time if Ford starts making a better vehicle.

Fusion is supposedly the de-facto top car right now, so I'll have to look into it.

But for now, I think I'll be a Honda guy until something drastic happens.

There are no canadian car companies at this point, no, because Canada signed an agreement decades ago stating we would not do so in exchange for having american car companies' plants here. Big mistake if you ask me, we (canadians) have technology for an all electric car in the 70s/80s but could never build them, so the plans had to be sold... rumor is (never looked it up) that some gas company bought the plans and destroyed them to be sure to continue to sell gas...
