[QUOTE="Capitan_Kid"] Thats not how it works anymore. You cant just beat someone up without there being consequences.Capitan_Kid

You don't have to beat someone up to do something.

So what do you suggest to stop the bullying problem? There arent that many choices to consider when one is being bullied. "Suck it up"/"Shrug it off" doesnt accomplish anything. Fighting gets you in trouble. Telling the proper authority (which is probably the best thing) isnt easy to do if its embarassing or it makes you seem like a coward.

Telling someone in charge isn't easy, that's right, but sometimes that's what you need to do. So again, either get over it or take the proper action. Again, this goes with kids today not knowing how to handle problems.

[QUOTE="kuraimen"][QUOTE="Pirate700"]Was I ever bullied? I'm the little brother...what do you think?

Pirate700

Being a little brother is not bullying. Again people are confusing normal pranks and name calling with bullying. When you have people all the time you how much you suck and you're worthless and how you should kill yourself then things are not so bright.

If someone is telling you that you suck and it bothers you that much, the issue is with you, not the person saying it. Just get over it, and don't care what someone says to you. If you can't do that, then tell someone. This is exactly what I'm talking about with not only kids being overly sensative today, but also not knowing how to deal with ANYTHING.

Let's she wasn't DEAD. Who would you suggest she talk to? It seems from the article that the police and teachers were aware of what was going on.

It's not that easy man...; image is like EVERYTHING at that age(In American culture at least).

Personally never had that problem, I think it's seriously just a first world social construct issue. I doubt someone in a starving country cares what anyone says about them, or their mother. They have bigger issues on their plate, it's probably a side effect of all the sheltering people provide their children.

Sounds like a lot of those things are her fault in the first place, I mean she did post the nude photos of herself first, and she knew that guy had a gf and went Over to his place regardless, she was looking for Friends in the wrong places

And if a person is incapable of doing something or if they have no one to go to or they don't know how to? These things are not taught to anyone. Why would it be their fault that some idiots decide to make their life hell? It doesn't make sense to blame the victim when the morally wrong thing is done by the others.

Telling authority does not work.

I trusted authority, I told them what was going on and trusted that they keep it a secret, all I needed to do was talk to someone. I was talking to a social worker at the school.

Ended up having to switch schools, because they went and got the bullies in trouble and everybody knew about it.

First off, if someone is circulating nude pictures of her, isn't that child porn? If she wants to end it, call the cops and get the last laugh. Again, problem solving.

Doesn't work out like that. Me beating them up was exactly what they wanted. They bullied me because they enjoyed seeing me miserable, they WANTED to see me break down and get angry. And if I had beat them up, it would have added more fuel to the fire and not only would I give them the submission and satisfaction of hurting me that they desired, they would have used my self-defence against me and jusitfied their actions. I knew the logical thing to do was to just give those spoiled brats the middle finger and just leave. To this day, it has been the best decision I have ever made. I feel like I became a totally different person (in a good way) in the two years that I have been out of that school.

Look, guys, yes she was retarded for many reasons, but that hardly excuses the relentless berating she dealt with. Considering how mentally unstable teenage girls are to begin with (seriously, I don't know what it's like for guys, but teenage girls are the most irrational living things on earth), an extreme level of bullying and repeated shame are more than enough to push a lot of people to the brink of seeing the only way out through death. Yeah, she's a dumbass for posting pics of her boobs underage (I don't care what adults do, we don't deal with high school bs like that). Yeah, she probably should have given up the social networking crap for a few years until people stopped caring. And yeah, she definitely shouldn't have slept with, and then protected that guy... but she's a ****ing teenager. And clearly wasn't in a good mental state. I feel sorry for her. It's probably more than traumatizing to endure what she did at that age. What makes me sad is that there is no system to fight these sorts of things from happening; to stop internet-related bullying. The whole social networking life these kids live means school goes home with you, and so do your problems. Teenage girls are vindictive ****s. They are relentless. I'm not saying police the internet, but there does need to be some level of accountability when someone is being relentlessly harassed. I don't mean prosecute everyone involved, but the people involved with what are actual crimes: the people who assaulted her irl, the person that circulated child pornography and blackmailed a minor for sexual favours. THOSE are already crimes they prosecute. The problem is that cyberbullying isn't quite as recognized as real-life harassment and assault. I would never support censorship or the senseless policing of the internet. Believe me, if I did I'd be in jail. What I DO support is using the internet as a resource to trace the people who started this mess and the ones who committed real life crimes (child pornography, assault).

On Christmas break, the police came to her home to tell her that photos of her were sent to "everyone.".

She pushed the next card very close to the camera.

"I then got really sick anxiety major depression and panic disorder. I then moved and got into alcohol and drugs."

"self defense" doesn't apply to school. Children don't have civil rights when they're under the wing of a public school, they do it for legal reasons. Regards of who hits first, if there's an altercation typically bother participates are suspended.

I'm talking from a purely sociological perspective. I could have fought back if I wanted to, but I didn't, because I knew it would have made things worse. These kids weren't cowards; they operated under a completely sadistic mindset.

I guess my main point is: A lot of people like to throw around the accusations that people bully because of their "insecurities". That is nothing but a complete fallacy.

It's strange. I never saw girls get bullied at all through elementary or high school.

A girl, practicing to be a cheerleader? You think she wouldn't have any self confidence issues with her appearance or anything, insecurities that bullies take advantage.

Anyways, it's sad how the school always is aware of the problem, but shrugs it off.

Those who think that bullying can be ignored are delusional. Bullying does a lot of damage and that damage never heals. She made a mistake and that mistake cost her everything, she did not deserve the bullying that she suffered. But from what I see there are those who think she deserved having her life made into a living hell, what a horrible thing to think. I suffered bullying all through my school years and even as an adult I still suffer from a lot of bullying from trans-phobics, bi-phobics and general idiots who seem to think that making me as miserable as possible will make them feel better about themselves. They are cowards who can't face up to their problems. Bullies never stop and the victims never heal, even if it may seem like they've managed to move on, the damage is always there. No one deserves to be bullied.

To me the bigger question is why can't this generation of kids handle being bullied? Bullying sucks any way you slice it but it's always been around. I think most everyone has been bullied in one point in their childhood and we all dealt with it. For some reason this new generation of kids can't be called a name without going suicidal.

Well, Jesus. Surprised to find out she was from my hometown (and nothing ever happens there). That being said, teens are vicious. It's times like these where news of a school-shooting would have no effect on me because they'd absolutely deserve it.

But you know, innocent bystanders and whatnot. Doesn't change the fact that people are sh*tty.

First world problem. Never hear kids in Nigeria killing themselves because of bullying. Fightingfan
Not really just a first wrong problems, we just fix it in a whole other way. I get bullied, I call my cousins, I call my cousins, they call their cousins, my cousins call their cousins and friends and so on.. and so on... until a bunch of gangs get formed and start killing each other just because one kid got bullied.

She did TONS of stupid things, but that does not justify people actively coming onto her and doing the things they've been doing. Getting 20 people and ganging up on her? That's fvcked up no matter what way you look at it. She was led on by a guy that had a girlfriend. She didn't KILL anybody or do anything worth creating THAT much of a fuss.

if i crapped my pants in school when I was a kid, I'd be made fun of, feel like crap (HAHAHA...errr yeah), and problably hate life. At least for a week or two.

Now, though, we got the internets, and that stuff goes on youtube and becomes immortalized. Then you're not being made fun of by kids just at school, you got jackasses from Spain making fun of you now. Then facebook, where the abuse continues. And you cant beat those people up for making fun of you, you just have to take it.

So bullying is a lot tougher to deal with now, then it was 10-20 years ago.

But ultimately I agree with you, Pirate, you just gotta deal with it man. Kids are mean, fact of life, and overreacting and expelling kids over namecalling or even fighting is horrible imo. OK OK so a kid gave another kid a bloody nose, lets go ruin the bully's future by expelling him and sending him to Juvi. Freaking overreactino now.

[QUOTE="Pirate700"]Where did I say anything about being tough or anything about myself. Keep reaching.

You've been victim blaming the whole thread and spouting generalized nonsense about how all kids these days are sensititive. Show some compassion ffs.

I did show compassion. I said bullying is terrible any way you slice it in my first post. I also specifically said not all kids are like this...

Bro, I am disappoint. :<

Pirate700

I think most everyone has been bullied in one point in their childhood and we all dealt with it. For some reason this new generation of kids can't be called a name without going suicidal.Pirate700

Still waiting for you to reply to my previous post, btw.

This thread is here, too? Its her own fault for exposing her breasts to internet strangers, and the whole situation escalates because she didn't decide to just delete "friends" off of her facebook, call the cops on the people harassing her (they could have gone to jail for child pornography), or just deleting her Facebook all together.

So saying we all dealt with it is pumping myself up? And I don't see your other post.

Except, in this case, she does deserve part of the blame. The bullies aren't blameless of course... but neither is she.

Would you say that in cases such as this (where harassment continues over a long period of time), that it would be better for the victim's life be ruined through drug addiction, mental illness, suicide, etc?

I love how some people are underplaying how bad bullying can be. It's not always just one bully, in some cases there could be multiple bullies. I remember one kid in Middle school who almost everyone thought was dumb, and if someone wasn't mocking him, probably were ignoring him. I don't really remember how many friends he actually made, he may have had a couple maybe. Sometimes bullying can escalate from just name-calling to violence, threatening, and sometimes the bullying may take place outside of school and out on the streets. Of course ev en if it doesn't get violent, the name-calling can still be negative enough to really mess up a kid. if the name-calling is persistant and/or from multiple people than it can be more likely to really hit home and get into the kid's mind, and they themselves may start feeling worthless if so many kids are telling them they are.

I know that many are thinking 'WHY NOT JUST CONTACT AN ADULT?" the problem with that is we are assuming are teachers or adults are shining beacons of humanity. In some cases teachers may know bullying is going on but don't get involved for whatever reasons. I'm sure there are many instances where some kids may have already been bullied so much that they feel worthless and lost hope and don't even bother to contact adults.

Bullying can be a very dangeroud hing to one's mental health. And not all kids we be able to just simply "toughen up", because remember these are kids and teens we are talking about; kids and teens aren't exact'y known for being the most emotionally or mentally stable people on the world, considering all the changes going on in their body at the time.

No, not seeing the entire picture is bad. This is what bothers me with a lot of people now is nothing is ever, at all, the fault of the person. Nobody is ever responsible for their own actions. We try to place all the blame on something or someone else. She made a ton of very idiotic decisions. Does that make the bullying ok, NO. But it also shouldn't remove her from any blame for her problems. The story is extremely sad but many people are victims of their own devices. Taking a step back and looking at the entire situation as a whole is what should be done.

Again, those aren't the only solutions.

The whole situation was preventable. If she doesn't have the problem solving skills enough to have stopped her harassment, then she doesn't really deserve any sympathy from me. And its not just her, the parents deserve equal blame, especially if they knew that this was going on.
