I used to think it was a man-made-prison (Seinfeld reference if anyone watches the show :)) I could never imagine myself wanting to be with one person the rest of my life. But in the past few months of my girlfriend and I dating (about two years). I really believe I want to spend the rest of my life with her. I don't think I would want to go through life without her.

So I've gone from one extreme to the other basically because I found the right one.

Do you find marriage to be man-made-prisons? Or can you not wait to spend your life with the person you love?

If you feel like you're in a man-made prison, maybe you married the wrong person...

If I can find a woman willing to put up with me for the rest of her life, of course I am going to get married. When it comes to relationships I am a very committed and monogamous person. To not get married and make that commitment would be against my nature.

"Am I going to?" and "Do I want to?" are two different questions. Of course I'd like to; marriage is a gateway to everything I've ever wanted. I recently attended my cousin's wedding and it changed my outlook on what it means to dedicate your life to someone. Words can't even begin to describe how beautiful marriage is.

It's not like I'll ever get married, though. I'm nearly certain of it.

It's not high on my list of priorities, but if the right woman came along I wouldn't be averse to it.

(Question is more for those who aren't religious - but anyone can still answer)

How do you feel about getting married even though marriage is traditionally tied to religion?

I don't want to get married in a church even though in reality that won't change much.

im too big of a romantist(romanticist? me dont know.) to get married, since marriage in my eyes is largely a legal matter. But i respect the sanctity (whatever is left.) of it, and peoples decision to pursue marriage. Boy was that boring to write.

Same here it all depends on the woman and maybe even the circumstances surrounding it.

I see marriage as devoting myself wholly to another person for the rest of my life. Everything that is mine is hers. My heart and soul completely. How that relates to religion is beyond me. Marriage has been around a lot longer than religion. Marriage is a public display of commitment and affection between (normally) two people. It can take place anywhere and for you to be legally married, all you need to do is apply for a license through the local government.

thats how I see myself.

I am not going to force it, and Ive delt with the pressure from my folks for a few years now, so I think I can hold out lol.

The way I see it, the right girl will come along.

The want for legal marriage jsut shows how much the 2 distrust eachother. They are trying to get a legally binding contract for their relationship :|

My current state of mind is that I never want to get married. It just seems like so many marriages end in divorce. People get bored of each other, they cheat, lie. Fall out of love. Feelings change though, or so I have heard.

Opening yourself up to a person and giving them the legal ability to take half your assets means you must trust them very much.

Very materialistic, no?

You can still share and not have to be bound by a silly legal agreement.

It has nothing to do with sharing things... giving someone the legal ability to take half of your total assets shows you trust them very much. All they have to do is decide to leave you and you are out half your entire gross worth. That kind of trust is very hard to develop and doing something like getting married without a prenup shows you trust your partner quite a bit... moreso than if you just "say" you commit yourself to them.

You have a point. In my mind though I feel that people mainly only do it for money or other tripe reasons. This could possibly be broad generalizations made by my imaginative mind.

Another thing about marriage that seems foul to me. Is the whole, have to spend a billion dollars on the ceremony deal.

I don't know it just doesn't feel right...
