Warrel Dane of Nevermore. His views on Religion and the abomination that is humanity and reality are really quite amazing and deep. I love how he gets it across too with his lyrics. He's quite the excellent songwriter.

Any of you have a musician you admire in that way?

Unless their views obnoxiously pop up in their songs, I don't care what any artist I like thinks about anything.

My favorite musicians tend to leave things open to interpretation in their song lyrics, so I don't really know any of their specific political or social views.

I don't like songs that blatantly convey a religious or political message...

Neither do I. Lyricists who just write "God is evil no I don't believe get away from me you scum!" Are no good. But you read this, it's different from any other religoeus song.

If a musician's songs are written such that one can easily and clearly discern all of the writer's political or religious beliefs from them, then frankly they probably aren't written in a very interesting fashion.

Depends on my mood. If I've broken up with a girl I'll whack on a bit of southern soul, or feeling down maybe a bit of Steve Mason or something that resonates well with my :(

I don't really listen to any music that espouses much in the way of political stance. Last one was probably the fantastic Absolute Dissent by Killing Joke, which is interesting lyrically albeit a little paranoid (as expected).

Maybe if I'm feeling an atheistic leaning, then Motorheads anti-religion classic Orgasmatron sits quite nicely.

But anyway no I don't gravitate towards any music because of a particular muscians perspective on life/world//everything/etc.

I guess theres some stuff, however, I don't 100% agree with every lyric I hear from them Jack White - The White Stripes, had some political and social commentary Green Day - Only one or two songs that are obvious political rants I agree with though Warren Zevon - Some of his lyrics describe how I view life, in a comedic or serious way, he does both. Little bit of John Lennon - Not a hippie, but a world like Imagine would be nice Other than that I listen to the other 90% of my music because I like the sound, or I can relate to the situation.

Personally, I think one should strive to be challenged in terms of truth rather than enjoying listening to that with which one already agreed. Nothing interesting in my opinion in hearing something that you agree with.

This. 100x this. I could care less about my musicians' political views as long as they keep creating good music.
