It's so weird. They put subtle references in children's cartoons that kids around the age that watch them would never get.

I saw an episode of the hit show Freakazoid a while ago and out of nowhere there's this space scene and freakazoid points at a planet and says "That's Uranus

When I was little I was totally oblivious to those references...now I catch them if I watch old cartoons with them. :P

That show's also got a couple of Sondheim homages - one song is based off of "Putting it Together" from "Sunday in the Park with George," and another is based off of "Ever After" from "Into the Woods."

There's a few others like Twilight walking up with her number in the race as 42, and then "The eggheads guide to racing" being mentioned immediately after that, but I think people are reading too much into it, it could just be a coincidence. I think the book "All you ever wanted to know about slumber parties, but were afraid to ask" is a pretty obvious reference though.

Eh. The 42 thing seems plausible - I've seen bigger stretches of logic for what some bronies think are references on that show.

There was a time when I watched Cow & CHicken, and oh the horror, it was terrible.

Spongebob Squarepants had lots of subtle references. :)

My favorite was the carpet-munching motorcycle-riding gang of butch women in cow and chicken. But that's not that subtle unless you don't yet know what a lesbian is.

Yea Haha, my brother was watching it the other day and looking back it was kind of perverted. There's loads of references though, I remember once Spongebob said "bye" to squidward twice and when someone asked him why he said it twice, spongebob went all horny looking and was like " I like Squidward". Also I'm sure "Squidward Tentacles" is implying "Squidward Testicles".
