hey that's fine with me...we can also abuse this...now we can finally transfer VC games from one wii to the next, so friends can buy one game each (make some kind of deal) and then trade off well, that's what i got out of it but yea...this isn't too bad of a solution...i like it, plus u can get wii SD cards at walmart for like $20 for the 2GB version....2GB should be plenty of storage

We gotta wait until spring 09 why? Time is precious nintendo! Sorry, I'm happy it's coming, but 2009, they've had almost 2 years to work on this.

I would of preferred a hard-drive but this will do. It was my biggest complaint with the Wii so far. Not giving us the equipment to use the full effect of what Nintendo has to offer is just lame.

first off, a hard-drive would NOT have been possible....if they woulda had made the wii had a hard-drive then all the 25+ million wii owners who have the wii already would not be able to have one and then would have to buy a brand new wii again...would u like to buy a wii again? didn't think so and every space in the current wii right now is used up, so we would have NO room to install a hard-drive ourselves

Then you got the wrong thing out of it

It's only going to work on the Wii it's downloaded from, just like now

Thats right it would be impossible to have an optional HDD and have two groups one that use a HDD and the other which choose the cheaper option and just stick with less memory .

On a side note the Wii has 2 usb ports which do nothing as it stands atm, and usb HDD are very common.

From what IGN reported the storage solution with be on all future released games. That would leave a lot of games that won't take advantage of it if that is the case. Hopefully they can rush this out before the spring.

As far as the USB ports, I always thought it would be an external hard drive with a firmware update via Wiishop. As it stands now I use one port for my remote charger and the other is for my MP3 player to charge.

Great stuff. I'm running pretty low on space now. I have over 40 game saves, Lost Winds, Sin & Punishment, Contra, Donkey Kong Country, F-Zero, Super Mario Bros 1&3 and Sonic 1&3, Internet channel etc. I'm suprised I've not ran out yet to be honest ^^

Exactly what is so good about this solution? We've been able to save games to SD cards ever since the Wii was released. :|

If I'm correct about this, then probably Wii owners will finally have direct access to the games/save files they have on the SD card to their own console, rather than having to copy and erase.

You know...

All that has been said is you can download games straight to the SD card. I hope this also means you can play them FROM the SD card, but that hasn't been explicitly stated, from what I have seen.

Nice, this is all I've ever wanted, to be able to play directly off an SD card. Too bad we have to wait so long.

I don't think it's as long a time as it may seem now. It's October and so many games are going to be coming out between now and then that it's going to seem like time flew by when everyone sees their wii light blinking for the update.

You can DIRECTLY access saved data on your SD card onto your Nintendo Wii. Couldn't do that before.

This is goooooood!!!
now its going to be like the GC, that you save your games in the memory card. And if you wnat to play any of your files in another place (example: in a friends house) you only need the SD card, not the whole console.

I mistyped... the same slot used for the SD card could of been some type of drive... It could of atleast been sold as an option.. either a card or a drive. I don't think that would of been complicated.

So Nintendo can ensure the update will tie games to their original Wii, so people can't share them with other users.

Or they're still trying to find a way to charge us for it.

Either way.

It's a start (but still not a simple firmware update to support USB HDDs). Maybe they'll up the limit on how big the SD cards can be? It'd be somewhat of a hassle and more expensive to have multiple 2 GB SD cards.

it'll take all of two seconds for hackers to be able to install WAD files directly on the SD card and it'll be easier than the current way to illegaly uptain VC and Wiiware games

webbut

I'm sure Nintendo is taking these six months before the update to explore all possible precautions.

After all, we still don't know EXACTLY what the update will include.

Has anyone been able to prove that? Because that's NOT what nintendo said. They said you could download to your SD card directly now. That's it.
